Or didn't?
Hey, it's as valid a reason as any.
My two favorites:
Dream Girl: I'd probably have to say yes. I first saw her in the early 80s and her outfit was simple and beautiful AND practical! (I'd probably choose to keep my arms & legs covered too, but you can't have everything.) The white/platinum color scheme was excellent.
Princess Projectra: No. As some of you may know, I don't know WHY I like her as much as I do. And that costume - I don't hate it, I don't love it. It does make me think now what's going on here? but I don't have an opinion.
It's possible that I've always had a slight dislike for Tinya because I didn't and still don't like the jumpsuit.

First thread of the morning, and I'm greeted by the most peculiar-looking Lash avatar yet.... **shudder**
As for the costume, it didn't influence me as to favorite ... Brainy is my #1 legionnaire and his costume has been atrocious. Purple with yellow boots & belt, on green skin? Baggy pants tucked in the boots before the cossack look became fashionable, always in that turtleneck - and now, the short sleeved thing - only slightly better than the tank top. BUt you don't expect a genius to have regard for fashion.

Probably -- I'm a very visual person. When Wildfire had those energy bodies preboot I just didn't like him as much.

Don't think so. My favorites had a mixture of good or terrible costumes.
Mon's was cool, Lyle's was boring, though I liked the headband, Cos' was ... well it was PINK for God's sake! And there couldn't have been a more boring costume that Condo's

Nope. It was her wings. But, the Great Spirit be praised, how could you not love that fringe?

Maybe a bit. Timber Wolf was always my favorite but my favorite look for him, the Cockrum design, was long gone before I became a Legion fan. But my second fave, Starboy, still had the killer Cockrum uniform plus the floating dots around it that Giffen added which might have influenced me to like him. Even at that though, I think I was more influenced by the way Levitz wrote them than anything.

Perhaps, on some level. I liked Jekki, Shady, and Lu, and LOVED their costumes.
Rokk's costume made my eyes bleed, so that may be why I did not care for him much.
Of course, Tyroc was a favorite, and I think we can generally agree that his costume has worse even than Rokk's

The costumes usually weren't my reason for liking certain characters, but in retrospect, all my favorite characters in the postboot happen to be the costumes I like best. Hmm, perhaps it really was a mix of visuals and character, or my mind starting to play favorites for every aspect of the characters.

Yes and no.
Just like a child I suppose, attracted to bright splashy colors. But in the end it was the characters that keep you.

I have to admit... a lage portion of why I like Tinya so much was that first look I got of her back in the 70's in her bellbottoms and boob-strips!

Mmmmmmm, yeah! Lightning Lad's costume was always cool (designed by Cockrum), and don't get me started on Saturn Girl's pink bikini...

Actually, yes. If asked to do a top ten list I will often include Apparition, Shadow Lass and Dawnstar. I think their costumes and opportunities for dramatic visuals play a big part. My all-time faves - Triad, Star Boy, and XS - are for character and personality only, though.

Not really. Cockrum's Shrinking Violet costume is probably my all time favourite, but I was a big fan of Vi before I saw it. (And I never could stand those green minidresses.)

Lightning Lad is my fave and became so primarily because of his starring prominence in early Adventure. Nevertheless, I soon came to really enjoy the complementary colors "elegance" of his formal-attire appearing caped and collared costume.
But the excellent well-designed costumes of Ultra Boy and Sun Boy were pivotal in my appreciation of them. And the great stories that they also had in early Adventure simply "filled out" the dynamic costumes with specific defined personalities.
Which seems a good point to mention that I recently observed how much Sun Boy's personality was rewritten away from his first spotlight story in Adventure 302. In that story in which he lost his power, he was really a serious and courageous character, not at all the playboy of the Levitz era or the traitor of the TMK era.
I miss the Adventure era Sun Boy, one of the top three most used characters of the era, IIRC the results of our Legion Grand Index. He was the Legionnaire that first contacted Validus and was one of the five that went against the Suneater.
It's always been my opinion Dave Cockrum's Wildfire took the "fiery hero" role away from Sun Boy, even though they remained contemporaries for many years.

M'onel was another top favorite of mine, whatever his incarnation - but I'm glad we're seeing him often because I really do like the post-boot costume.
Umbra/Shady always fascinated me appearance-wise, not so much for her costume but for her blue skin, dark hair and pointed ears. Her eyes also look a bit oriental now. And her costumes got more interesting after the initial bathing suit with cape look. The brief skull-cap hair/white skin appearance was atrocious.

Umbra/Shady: The brief skull-cap hair/white skin appearance was atrocious. Agreed on both counts. Mon was/is my all time favorite...both in and beyond the LSH. I loved his original costume but think his current one is great also. Shady on the other hand was never in my top ten and that skull cap costume was most certainly horrendous!

I also have to say that I never really liked Vi in her green costumes.

I kind of liked those little disco numbers that Mike Grell used to outfit the team in. Had I been influenced by costume, then Cosmic Boy would have been my favorite.
I liked Invisible Kid on the other hand because he had it all - invisibility and flight (with the flight ring).

The costumes weren't really a factor for me. In fact, it seemed like a lot of members weren't really wearing costumes. It was more like they wore work clothes.

I appreciated some of the costumes over the years, but it's always been the characters that intrigued me, not what they wore.
I rather seem the Legionnaires in more everyday clothes that their uniforms.
