Thanks for your notes, Vee, and I'm glad you're safe and on line.
As of 6:30 am ET I still haven't heard from my aunt, but I'm going to try reaching her myself later today. If the phone circuits permit, that is.
Local phones run on their own current, so some folks have phone service even if they have no electricity -- but, as you might imagine, the long-distance circuits are heavily booked up.

Grey, as I mentioned in a previous post, it's very likely that she was in a mandatory evacuation zone and ended up going to a shelter. Thousands of people are still housed in shelters at this point, especially in heavily damaged areas (which Mebourne Beach would be.)

Not another coming!?! You know, if I were in Florida, I would be getting pretty fed up with all these hurricanes. So here's more good thoughts and hopes going to our Florida friends.
They're even sending crews from Ontario now to try and get the power back on after Frances.

It looks like the real killer is gonna be Ivan.
All ya'll down north button up, batten the hatches and hang tight. Evacuate please. We don't want any of our friends lost to this because you thought you could "ride out the storm".
Please be sensible.
Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!
Something pithy!

They're even sending crews from Ontario now to try and get the power back on after Frances. Hard to believe, isn't it? Ivan is now projected to make landfall on Florida's southwest coast somewhere between Bradenton/Sarasota & Naples/Fort Myers sometime around 2 AM on Tues morning and then make it's way roughly NNE through Florida and on into Georgia. It's followed Charley's path almost identically so it's not very promising right now. He's the nastiest of the Floirda Four (Bonnie, Charley, Frances & Ivan) at this point in their trajectories so it could be VERY ugly. Not sure how much more we can take down here. To make matters worse, another depression is forming off the African coast even as we watch Ivan approach.

According to some stories we are entering another phase with intense hurricane action. (climate researcher William) Gray counted up how often major hurricanes — that is, a Category 3 storm or above — made landfall in Florida. "In the 40 years from 1926 to 1965 there were 14 major landfalling storms that hit," he said. "In the 38 years since then, there was only one: Andrew."

Geez. When Charley hit, I was glad I had moved away from the Naples/Ft.Myers area...now even more-so with Ivan likely to make landfall around the same area Charley did.
Vee and everyone, good luck and be safe! I wish I could be there to help, but at the minute I'm quite glad to be avoiding the triple/quadruple onslaught.
Everyone in GA and SC, stay safe too and good luck with the likely winds and rain heading your way.

Looks like we may get lucky this time. Ivan seems to be swinging further west but we still have to wait to see what he does after crossing Cuba. Often they make adjustments to their course as they regroup.
If he continues on his current path, they need to be careful up in the Florida panhandle or the other Gulf States.

My son and his family liive in Destin. They got hammered by Ivan but thankfully everyone is OKAY! Surprisingly his trailer wasn't damaged at all, aside from losing it's skirt.
Relief is a collect phone call from a disaster area!

Boy, that is a relief. As nasty as Ivan was (the deadliest hurricane in the US this year) it's amazing that that's all that happened to them in Destin. Glad to hear it!

We got a surprise minor beating here in Atlanta. Alot of downed trees, lost power and flooding. Luckily I live on a hill!
I love Vol.4 Prepare your stones.
