Hey, Jim, funnily enough I just missed out on an opportunity to live and work in Edmonton. I didn't get that particular job, unfortunately, so am moving from the Toronto area (in the province of Ontario) to our national capital, Ottawa, in a few weeks instead.

But I hope that you have a good time in Edmonton. It seems like a nice city, and I've found that people are quite friendly there. Good choice to go in the summertime, though; I hear that those prarie [sp?] winters are brutal. smile

Huh; I made the same move earlier this year. It's worked out well so far; hope it does for you too.

I didn't know there were so many Canadians in Legion Land! That's pretty cool!

Me says Larry Craig would be a good Legion Villian as Toliet Man.

I don't know about villain, but he would make a great Legion reject as "Wide Stance Willie." Oh, and then he could become a member of Earth Man's villainous Justice League Earth.

Thanks, Matthew, and I'm glad to hear that things are working out for you in Ottawa. I do recall from your blog that you were based in T.O., and must therefore warn you that come hockey season the Leafs/Sens rivalry is taken pretty seriously.

If you go to the comic shop on Bank Street (near the Lisgar Street intersection), maybe we'll run into one another sometime; just look for the guy fending off comments about Toronto's supposedly high crime rate, lol! smile

Seriously, though, Ottawa really is a nice place to live and work, as you now well know.

I second that claim that Ottawa is a beautiful city. I'm less than 2 hours away and one of my best friends live there. I hope to get there this summer with the wife and kids for a visit.

Yes, Mr. Gallagher, it's great to hear of any Canadian Legion fans. This message board was the first time my Legion addiction was no longer a solitary drug.

I've never met another Legion fan face-to-face, actually. The news of Yellow Kid's death has made me wonder: how do fans actually find each other at comic conventions (I've never really been to one, believe it or not)? Are there fan booths or banners, or even bulletin boards?

Sorry, Jim, I haven't had any luck in digging up that article. I swear, though, that I did read about the study somewhere sometime this past year.

The store I've settled on is The Comic Book Shoppe in Nepean. It's pretty good.

I dunno. I guess they arrange stuff ahead of time. Apropos of nothing, though, I'm planning on attending the Toronto Fan Expo at the end of August. Anyone else?

I've met the Man from Cargg, another Canadian fan, in Toronto, but he's since relocated to BC I think.

Yellow Kid died? What happened?

He was apparently hit by a car or truck while biking. There's a thread about it in the Mission Monitor Board section titled, "Yellow Kid has Died."

I didn't even know about it, which just goes to show how isolated I am from other comic book fans.

Since I'm already "jonzing" for Toronto and haven't even left yet, the Toronto Fan Expo--plus the Canadian National Exhibition itself--
might be a good excuse to pay a visit home.

I've heard the same thing said about both the first two X-Men series and various incarnations of Star Trek, fwiw.

Gotta' say this is the best message board I've ever been on for picking up gay guys, though. Um, in a nonintrusive, sisterly, why-don't-you-come-over-for-brunch-and-we'll-shoot-the-breeze kind of way. [cough]

Now I'm dying to know if an unusual number of female Legion fans are lesbian or bi!

(Which reminds me: I know a thread that needs a good bump 'Scuse me...)

With the upthread mention of the utopian United Planets (all peoples living together in harmony) thing, I was just thinking that Gene Roddenberry's United Federation of Planets also fit that description.

I could see X-Men having a certain appeal, as well, particularly with the 'closeted' nature of many mutants, and the whole 'living in a world that hates and fears them' thing.

Really, any sort of science fiction or fantasy would likely have an appeal, as imagining yourself escaping to a different world gets more and more important when you aren't happy with the world you're already inhabiting (or, more precisely, the world you are inhabiting doesn't always approve of you).

But, Set, the really big question is: Are you now wearing or have you ever worn the color pink?

wink

And if you do, it doesn't necessarily mean that you are gay. It could mean that you are from Braal or Trom. smile

No, but if you wear pink, and you're a White guy with a perm, you are most definitely one of the "One In Ten."

(Seriously, I forget which other Legion site I was on, where somebody explained how this works. I can't remember whether they were being serious or not. Maybe even they didn't know.)

Speaking of White guys in perms (I miss Element Lad's perm, fwiw) I hear that both Braal and Trom were in reality settled by hordes of utopia-minded Canadians. It explains so much, doesn't it?

lol

No wonder he had to change his style, then. Look what happened to poor Lyle. Of course, eventually Lyle got an even more obvious "big 'i'" motif. Must have been his way of whistling past Shanghalla.

I won't be able to go this year, but I should be there next year. If only it was sept and not august...

unless disaster strikes, I'll be moving to Peterborough in the fall, and may be passing through Ottawa semi-frequently in September.

I wore pink underwear for a week once, after washing something red with my whites. Does that count?

I'm bi. And during my recent vacation, I met the most delicious Rose McGowan-alike... love Hopefully something will come of it -- I haven't had a significant other for a long time; I'd like to move there, but then I'm afraid she'll have moved on. Decisions, decisions...

But I digress.

Everyone here knows by now that I've had a massive crush on Tasmia since I first laid eyes on her (it was LSH v.3 #56, where she was delicately delineated by Eduardo Barreto.) I so wanted Ayla (who I related to so much, gender confusion and weakness for bad boys and everything but the kitchen sink -- on second thought, I've never worked on a farm) to end up with Tasmia instead of Vi, who reminded me of a butch female lover I broke up with very acrimoniously.

Laundry accidents get a special exemption. If memory serves, so do Preppies. Lisa Bernbach herself said that it's perfectly routine for Preppy men to wear pink, and that it always has been.
