I figured they made their way up to the roof to get at the copter, then couldn't make their way back down again. So what's with the different coloured eyes on the undead? Is it just new FX this year, or is something else going on? It was a decent, if predictable episode. I called the death and the "secret" about the companion right off the top, but I did enjoy the character moments. I like how the bonds are showing strong at this point. It will be interesting to see that get tested this year. Oh and.... Whatever the eye thing is...it's tied to the new "threat" this year that they hinted about.

So THAT'S why they kept showing that one odd-eyed zombie at the gate. I think I'm gonna rewatch the episode shortly.

I am thinking everyone is a new kind of Zombie ... I think that pig is turning into a cute zombie and I thought that woman Rick was talking to was some kind of new tricky intelligent zombie ... ahhh but I forgot how damn cute Glen is.

Indeed, it has, Edie! Last night's ep was especially great, giving us a veritable Hershel tour de force! In fact it was so good that the last moment reveal actually seemed anti-climactic!

So I've been thinking about what happens if they really do loop around and do the comics scene with the Governor's crew rolling up to the prison to issue his ultimatum. This led me to believe that we'd see the same grisly scene with on top of the tank. But then I thought that the only reason that happened was that said character was outside of the prison at the time. And really, the only character outside the prison gates right now is..... Carol.

Yeah, Dave....don't forget the two who were in the Gov's sights at the end of this most recent episode. There was even a comment on the clip from the new ep (shown on Talking Dead) where Gov is rallying his troops and says something to them like, "when they realize the others are missing...") which sure seemed to refer to Michonne and Hershel.

I love that Michonne goes on Comic Book runs for Carl!
I tried to rip their soul out.I tried to make them forget Superman. But they won't.

Saw a clip...does not look good for one or two of the crew.
I really hope they do this right.
My guess is a whole lot of chaos in the second half hour with huge cliffhangers as to what the fallout is.

Say what you will about Gimple as showrunner, but he definitely is trying to bring the show into line with the books. The entire Carl/Rick arc of this episode (which was most of it), was taken pretty much verbatim from the books.

So for those of you still watching who also read the books, what's the thoughts on last night's episode? How will taking such a major event from Carl and giving it to Carol affect how things will play out?

I don't know, Dave. All I know is it was 110% better done on the show than the version that appeared in the comic book. I cried last night.

One thing I didn't catch until someone at work pointed it out, was that the fire was the moonshine shack that Beth and Darryl lit up. Which makes it even more agonising that they were all so close to each other.

I caught that right away but something I had no idea about, which Yvette pointed out on Talking Dead, was that when Lizzie is first introduced and her father is dying, she's told to "look at the flowers". Pretty awesome writing right there.
I think it was a fantastic episode--yet another one in this fantastic season--and the way it played out was incredibly powerful and well done.
I don't think it takes much away from Carl at all, either. Carl already had "that moment" in a way in the season 3 finale with Hershel. His character seems to have moved past that in a way--or at least evolved into the next phase.
Melissa McBride is just so potent on the show as Carol. It was also the best Talking Dead ep ever just to hear her very emotional thoughts on the episode and Carol in particular. (Not to mention the best "Dead besties" ever, CM Punk and Yvette).

I kept thinking, "Man! If only *these guys* had stumbled upon the moonshine cabin... because crazy Lizzie seems like she could use a drink!"

I know Lash and Pov didn't really like the Daryl / Beth episode.
I personally think this has been BY FAR the best season in terms of consistent, excellent quality. It blows the last two seasons out of the water!

I think it finally gets the tone of the books right. for sure. (the depression and the bizarre personality changes)
season one was a disaster film, and season three was an action film ... finally I think it is now the walking dead.
And I agree this season has some of the best episodes but ... this last one about carol and co was just a bit much ... for me ... they needed to wrap it up a bit earlier. or something.

I actually did think there were a few bits in this episode where it felt like they were stretching it out to fill up the whole hour, but overall it felt like it worked so more successful than the Daryl/Beth ep. as far as focusing on the small group.
I do agree this has been easily the best season overall, though.

I don't think this past episode was slow at all. I was riveted from the beginning. On the second watch I was amazed by how well set-up everything was thematically. By the time what happened to Mika happened, I'd kinda fallen in love with her and her altruistic kind of innocence. So I was pretty devastated when everything went down. I thought both children did a great job with such dark subject material. And that great scene with Carol and Tyreese at the end was awesome.
Melissa McBride is just so terrific playing Carol! I was struck particularly at how much TV's Carol is nothing like the book's Carol. That version has some merits to it, but I'm so glad the writers didn't feel beholden to it. I'm hoping so hard that Carol makes it to next season!
Still "Lardy" to my friends!
