You know, in the Reimagined, post-post boot? I loved that little guy!

Wasn't he the pre-boot version of Monstress..?

You mean the little guy that was always eating parts of their equipment? I'd like to see the little hovering fish guys from the Academy again too. Who knows? Mark promised lots of non-human Legionnaires this time around so maybe we'll get to see stuff like that. Barry seems to like drawing aliens so I expect a rich background to this Legion.

Sadly, that little guy didn't even make it into WWitL. (At least, not that I remember.) I have no idea of his name or powers - and I've got a fairly encyclopedic knowledge of Legion names.

That's what he always said. I guess I hadn't realized that was his name. He was definitely not Legion material. I think he's a prime candidate for the Legion of Super-Rejects. You know you could see him disabling security be eating it. Then the rest of the team just walks in and starts the fight.

So am I correct in assuming that this character had no name?

Looks like the official verdict is that his name is "Urk". It's right there in the caption. Captions don't lie! Well, that's what they told me, anyway...

re: non-human Legionnaires
Two and a half years went by way too quick, and Waid's reboot never really seemed to get off the ground. We got the big guy from Thoom, the arm-growing plant guy, and a Public Service cloud guy, all of whom may have been potential Legionnaires (if the standards were so lowered that Terror Firma killers would be allowed in).
re: "Urk"
Wasn't that "Urk" fellow shown in the Legion Who's Who under the Legion Academy? I don't have the issue handy, but maybe his name is listed there?

I did a little research over the weekend - the little fellow 'Urk' is pictured under 'Legion Academy' in the original DC Who's Who (circa 1985-86) and listed as 'Unknown' as is a small mechanical device. Although there are index references, there is no listing of the Legion Academy in the Legion Who's Who (surprisingly!).

I've begun to think of Urk as being much like the Tazlings in the old Atari Force. They have a natural mechanical aptitude. This means that they can modify and update mechanical equipment. Presumably this works mainly in the favour of the owners of the equipment. But this is not always clear. What happens if they fix something that doesn't need fixed? Perhaps that's why Urk is at the Academy. Urk enjoys consuming some of the wiring. Perhaps this is his food. Perhaps he puts things together like recipes to eat the energy of the improved device. ![[Linked Image]](http://i61.tinypic.com/xrodd.jpg)

My fanwank is that Urk is part of a species of machinery-eating alien animals who have spread throughout the UP, at first being a terrible plague, but having later been 'trained' to only eat the huge plethora of out of date technology on any developed world. They scamper through walls and swarm beneath the cities, devouring outdated technology, and making room for the latest and greatest.
So Urks are not just a menace, eating important stuff and causing brownouts and service interruptions and occasionally getting electrocuted in the walls, but actually performing a public service.
One of the Urks at the Academy is less shy than most Urks, and can often be seen photobombing gatherings of students, and has been mistaken for a student, on occasion, by students from less developed worlds that don't have Urks running around in their infrastructure (like, ahem, Lightning Lad, who asked one how it's studies were going, to the great amusement of those present).

There is no doubt a great untold Legion story about Urk and his friendship with the floating machine box student!

... and has been mistaken for a student/ Luornu has identified Urk as one of the students. ![[Linked Image]](http://i61.tinypic.com/348n1mp.jpg) As for floating machine box student,. I thought it was Quislet, when I saw the cover of v3 14. As it isn't it can only be something that is really annoyed that Quislet got it's place. I had also thought it was a drone for the student that couldn't come out of it's tank. But that student was Tellus, and so that wasn't the case either.

Actually, looking at the pic above, I see that Urk has the tell tale toes of a Darkseid mockery. He and Comet Queen are traitors within the Legion.
