49) Next Men – the Dark Avengers characters might be more colorful but Byrne sells the cover better with the line work on the snow
50) IZombie – one of the toughest choices yet but I just love, love, love this IZombie cover. Your eye just follows the cover down from the hand to the comic to the image of Ellie and her awesome dress to finally the split image of nice zombie and mean zombie. The Viynl Underground cover though is also quite striking!
51) Katy Keene Pin-Up Parade – both are similar but I’ll go with the ballerina skirt & butterflies over the short shorts and gag.
52) Deadly Class – Inhuman is more colorful and with characters I know, but Deadly Class goes the extra mile with the wolves and bricks falling off, which puts it over the top.
53) Rex the Wonder Dog – again, two really good covers but Rex edges it out with the peril coming from in back of the comic forward to the reader (as opposed to the Big Town cover). But are exciting though.
54) Punch Comics – wonderfully terrifying cover
55) Ultimate X-Men – really don’t like either cover at all but at least this one evokes some emotion
56) Humor Comics – a verbal gag I haven’t heard before and a beautiful red polka-dotted dress on a nice figure. I’ll take it! The guy looks super-goofy though (and a name like Kelly? Bah!). The cover would work better with Cobalt Kid.
57) Forbidden Tales of the Dark Mansion – two awesome horror covers but Dark Mansion is one that just mesmerizes me.
58) Mickey Finn – charming!
59) Mind MGMT – highly detailed cover that conveys the complexity and conspiracy within
60) Archie’s Gals & Pals – I don’t love it, but I think this one works better with Jughead’s yawning gag

61) Heathcliff – for some reason this cover jumps out at me, perhaps because its framed by all the Marvel heroes of 1986 (or whatever year that is).
62) Skeleton Key – a series I’ve never seen before, this is a wonderful cover
63) Forbidden Worlds – very dynamic cover!
64) Flash Comics – Detective is more dynamic with shading and color, but the energy and colorfulness of the Flash’s costume mixed with the WWII setting works for me.
65) Fantastic Four – one of my all-time favorite covers when I was a kid, I would stand in front of it, mesmerized, when it was hanging on my Dad’s display board in the comic book room. My uncle would read it to me over and over, and I always wanted to the Thing to beat the Hulk.
66) She-Hulk – great cover. There’s a lot to like here, but I especially like the eyes and lips.
67) Binky – the gag is good enough to beat out Superboy
68) The Kilroys – the girls all look like they’re 12 or 13, but this reminds me of what my singular goal was when I was 12 or 13. It took a lot of effort to be popular with the ladies and I had to hide my great secret—I liked comic books—for nearly 20 years!
69) Lois Lane – I want to read about Lana Lang, Girl Atlas. I’m talking a 12 issue maxiseries at minimum.
70) 1st Issue Special – terrific cover featuring a Starman who was long forgotten after for 20 years.
71) Crisis on Infinite Earths – another cover that would mesmerize me as a kid. I would stare at it and try to make sure I looked at every single hero. I did that even recently. Also, one of the greatest, most epic endings ever.
72) FF – both covers are great, but I love the FF cast and they’re almost all featured here.

73 Love Life – something about that cover makes it feel like innocent flirting that could happen anywhere. The workplace? The diner? The library? I like it.
74 Tales of the Mysterious Traveler – striking cover that makes me want to enter the world of the unknown, even though I know it isn’t going to go well for me.
75 Swamp Thing – terrific!
76 Daredevil – tells what you need to know about the issue and makes you wonder exactly who Echo is. Actually a really great cover that I probably didn’t give enough credit to at the time.
77 New Mutants – like both covers a lot, but I enjoy a classic superhero cover plugging in Magma and the New Mutants.
78 Crime SuspenStories – unnerving cover that feels like something that could happen so often but never reported. Executed perfectly while the other feels like a cheap knock off (which it was).
79 Scooter – just a lot of whackiness going on that seems like a ton of fun
80 Alpha Flight – classic Byrne cover that has been copied by so many (*cough* Liefeld*)

WOW, my applause to CObie for not only doing them in one sitting but ESPECIALLY for taking the extra time to give a reason why one works better for him than another. Such things make it more fun for the rest of us who also do that. Well, For me anyway. smile

73. My Love Life: Romantic Love. Romantic Animated Eyebrows more like. Keep in to the Hellfire Club. So I'm going with "Sure, I'm a flirt. So what?" "Nothing, while you're glued to that mantelpiece."

74. Unexplored Worlds. I complained when it turned out I'd only win 1 of the prizes and not all 8000 as the cover clearly suggests. Traveller is carrying a huge toirch for someone, so I go with the creepier Unexplored and it's mix of European myths and the land of dreams.

75. Swamp Thing. The "We're walking in footprints" line I so clichéd even Konga is pointing to Swamp Dentistry Monthly as the worthy winner.

76. Daredevil. It's not much of a choice between Lyle's wallpaper trick and synchronised ninjas though.

77. Excalibur. Toughie. New Mutants is more eye catching. The looming buildings also add to the impending doom. But the composition of Excalibur's part 1 of 1000 cross time caper is really good, not to mention the fun with the knight, dragon and maiden.

78. Suspenstories - Don't pretend you're promoting wholesome policeness with that cover Perfect Crime! It gets points for having the boss stand outside splatter range, but loses them again for blatant cover over acting. Suspenstories gets points because that could be your buddy about to shoot you in the back. Clearly a good friend who can't bear to see you in such a horrible outfit.

79. Go-Go - it's an old one but seems to have extra teenage mind rot. Next month: Mourn with Scooter after he and his pals provoked the lion in #12.

80. Alpha Flight: Although the cry of "Buy this issue and we'll kill someone" is a pain, it was a classic cover in a classic run.

77. NEW MUTANTS - Pretty sure young EDE owned this issue!
78. CRIME SUSPENSTORIES - just a far better cover!
79. SCOOTER - Because of the parrot, and my plans to revive Scotter once MLLASH inevitably takes over DC Comics!
80. ALPHA FLIGHT - just more appealing overall.

If you're going to try to impress Teeds, there can be no half measures!

And I agree--love seeing why some of these work for people more than others. This was an awesome thread to read through this morning. It's amazing how an image can suddenly hit you and make you feel excited, disgusted, intrigued, etc.

81. MY GREATEST ADVENTURE -- I find myself really intrigued by the story on this one.
82. LOVELORN -- Totally triggers my protective instincts and want to beat up that bastard guy!
83. LASH ET TEEDS -- er... I mean SUGAR AND SPIKE.
84. GREEN HORNET -- I almost went the other way on this, but I'm not digging the fact that the Black Dwarf has his back to the camera.

81. NIGHT FORCE. While the MGA style looks more my speed, look (from your high vantage point) at the power of the silent cover.

82. LOVELORN. Can't deny that cover, but the gal from the other should come post here, she looks like she's got moxie. Then me & Cindy could go get poor ol' Drive-In Trixie to a) get her mind off that parking-lot lothario and b) feed her a fuckin' cheeseburger & malt.

83. SUGAR AND SPIKE! Popeye good too though. Olive Tot!

84. DANGER. GH cleaner, but Danger a little more interesting for the jump-in.

81. Night Force. The colouring in Taking Tiddles for a Walk wins. "I was lost in a mirage," said the airman to the reporter, who also turned out not to exist.

82. Lovelorn. Heck, I'd buy a cover that angsty now. Now quit dripping your tears into my coffee.

83. Sugar and Spike. Although the little hearts coming out of the head are nice, innocent disaster awaits with Shelly.

84. Green Hornet: From the letterer that brought you Mysterious Traveller! It wins for the scaffolding detail. There's not much else going for it. The red head in Danger is right. They don't have to worry about the Black Dwarf. You can see he's caught his jacket cuff in the hatch opening. It was a short return.

81. NIGHT FORCE - that big old monster in the back makes it work so well

82. LOVELORN - captured the emotion so well

83. POPEYE

84. GREEN HORNET - better angle

81. At first sight it was NIGHT FORCE but no, it looks stupid. So MY GREATEST ADVENTURE for its retro chic panache!

82. CINDERELLA LOVE. I can't read the word balloons in the other, which may be a good thing.

83. SUGAR AND SPIKE. Popeye is lame!

84. DANGER has a weird, cool P.O.V

85. Green Arrow. It's a bit posturing, and I don't fancy Ollie's chances.
86. Kid Eternity. How slow must plastic man have been to be caught by that.
87. Secret Avengers. Not much to pick between them, so I'll go with the more intricate mucus sculpture of Secret A.
88. Hand of Fate. No Challengers these. But Hand of Fate is more picky. "You can be saved, but the other passengers...meh."

85. GREEN ARROW - like the "I'm gonna bash your brains in" pose
86. PLASTIC MAN - nice use of Plas
87. INTO THE VORTEX - a second look made me like the pattern of energy
88. STRANGE MYSTERIES

85. SHE-HULK is terrific!

86. That KID ETERNITY cover is a simple delight.

87. Nothing simple here. Both are fighting for my attention. I *love* the VORTEX logo but that FINAL ISSUE blurb is ruining things. I don't really wanna give it to SECRET AVENGERS but that blurb-!! SO BAD--!! S.A it is.

88. The giant hand on STRANGE MYSTERIES is a winner!

85. SHE-HULK. Served!

86. KID ETERNITY.

87. SECRET AVENGERS. The twist & curve of the vines.

88. STRANGE MYSTERIES. Too much yap on the other.

89. GA Green Lantern - great poster, shadow villain combo. I'm also bitter that the SA GL statue ended up in the 30th century and got Stone Boy's place in the Subs.

90. Mary Marvel. It's just lovely. Action, adventure, educational and lots of wonder. Elsewhere there will be no riding engines of anything phallic thank you Captain. >tut<

91. Captain Marvel. Forced into a choice here. Captain Clunky has never appealed, but it's all Ecch for Brand Echh.

92. Doc Savage. Who will cure his chronic indigestion?
