57. JSA all the way!
58. THE FEARLESS DEFENDERS, just barely. Namor tells a better story and I was drawn to it first, but I just like the second one better aesthetically.
59. PENALTY.
60. ROUTE 666. Far more interesting.

These aren't inspiring much commentary for me, but here are my picks:

1. A killer called Honey Bun. Seriously, how could I NOT pick that?
2. Master Comics. Because Nickel Comics just sounds cheap.
3. The Boys. The use of color grabs me. Besides, all those women have the same hair, which is kinda Stepford creepy.
4. Pals & Gals. Devil suits!
5. Neither one really appeals, but at least Shazam has Tawky Tawny.
6. Spidey! (Joe is just too muddy looking for my tastes)
7. Love Experiences. The weather is better in August.
8. Little Max. Bulldog!
9. Curley Kayoe. I like the fact that the blurb directly contradicts what's actually going on. It's like watching a cable news channel.
10. Legion. I just ate a couple cookies and the Titans cover makes me want to toss them. Besides...DREAM GIRL!
11. The Shadow. Dynamic cover! Suicide Squad is just too busy.
12. 'Mazing Man. Evil cat wins every time. Also, how can I resist a Zoot Sputnik bonus story?
First comic books ever bought: A DC four-for-47-cents grab bag that included Adventure #331. The rest is history.

13. All-Star. I like the symmetry. Besides, it's the Justice Society...the real one.
14. Wow. These guys mean business!
15. Moon Girl. So much to like about this one, not the least of which is Moon Girl herself.
16. Green Lantrin, er Lantern. Give me Doiby Dickles over Dick Grayson anyday. Besides, Batman smiling is just wrong.
17. Betty & Veronica. Because of Betty's pants.
18. Space Adventures. Not sure why, I just like it more.
19. Another case where neither particularly appeals, but the shadow guys with tomahawks gives Jimmy Wakely a slight edge.
20. Weird Fantasy. Barely, because of slightly cooler looking aliens. And couples in tubes.
21. X-Men. Unus! Really, Stan?
22. The Atom. Because it shows him in a new light.
23. Adventure Into Mystery. I'm dying to find out what Mr. Mason's strange problem was.
24. Speed Comics. A guy in medieval armor on horseback vs. a guy in red tights. Who can say no to that?

25. Flaming Carrot. Just for the absurdity of it all.
26. Dynamic Comics. Love the faces.
27. Miss Beverly Hills of Hollywood. Reminds me of an Aztec Ace story I like.
28. Amazing Mystery Funnies. Speed Centaur! Now there's an original concept. (It would be kind of amusing to see the guy in the blue suit miss the other guy and land flat on his face, though.)
29. Human Torch. Really, a no-brainer.
30. Spider-man. Isn't this the first Spidey/Torch crossover?
31. Freckles. Better colored.
32. Challengers of the Unknown. Both covers are kinda busy, but I like the contrast of color and monochrome on the Challs cover.
33. Baker Street. Definitely creepy. Also, I hate cartoony depictions of Boston Brand.
34. Daredevil. I can actually feel the height of Stilt Man.
35. Neither. Not an option? Fine, I'll take Flash Gordon just for the skull shadow.
36. Troublemakers. Because a guy on a horse can't hold a candle to a guy who IS a horse.

37. Captain Marvel. Kitties!
38. Sea Devils. Love those painted covers.
39. Dead Boy Detectives. Windmills are cool.
40. Tales Of The Unexpected. At least I know what I'm getting.
41. Spectre. Definitely an attention grabber.
42. Black Orchid. Well, really, neither, but the Orchid cover has some symmetry to it at least.
43. My Love Life. I want to see if she shoves that finger up his nose.
44. Comics. Because an arrow in the ass is funnier than an implied baseball.
45. The Thing. I like the table light effect.
46. TMK Legion. One of my all-time favorite covers.
47. The Black Cat. Because I live with two black cats.
48. All Humor Comics. Those socks! That weird dress! His haircut. That logo! And a clown holding a placard, besides.

49. Wolverine. Hulk in a tux is worth the cover price. Besides, I hate Secret Wars and the plague of company crossovers that it spawned.
50. WildC.A.T.S. Another tough choice. Both covers are pretty messy, but at least (I refuse to type all those periods again) has a focal point.
51. Real Fact Comics. What can I say? I like 50s spaceships.
52. Saga. Because...Saga. Besides, Fables has given me a whole different image of Ozma.
53. Brides In Love. Argyle socks, late 50s car, tweed jacket and is he actually wearing mocassins? Mostly, though, I'm mad for roadmaps.
54. Gotta go with Bizarro, just because.
55. Neither grabs me, but at least Little Scrowlie has a black cat on the cover.
56. Elektra. Blue Estate makes me think of the line "My eyes are up here, guy". Except they're not.
57. Justice Society Of America. Just a great cover.
58. Fearless Defenders. Valkyrie.
59. Crime Must Pay The Penalty. Because the protagonist on the other one is obviously too stupid to live.
60. Route 666. All kinds of intriguing stuff here. Makes me want to go out a find a copy.

49. I'm loathe to applaud anything SECRET WARS, but the new spider cosgtume was a COLOSSAL deal.
50. X-FORCE for the LOLz.
51. That PICTURE NEWS cover is lovely and soothing to me.
52. The Saga cover is nice, but the OZMA OF OZ cover is enticing me to want to look inside. My feelings!!!
53. I kinda want to see both couples' sex tapes. So it's gonna boil down to the cover that makes me think of my favorite season: BRIDES IN LOVE.
54. I chuckled at SUPERBOY 1990 and am not amused by Ma Kent's silver age dumbness.
55. Both are enticing. I'll go with REPLACEMENT GOD because there's a dreamy boy on it.
56. ELEKTRA looks richer, so her.
57. THE TWELVE cover is great but JSoA will always be tops for me.
58. Love that FEARLESS DEFENDERS cover.
59. Both have ANNOYING amounts of dialogue, but PUBLIC ENEMIES uses the word "sucker", so it.
60. ROUTE 3x6 features escaped mental hospital killers, so it I guess. I like tHe KENTS cover well enough. I doubt I'd buy either comic though.

61. STORIES OF BRIDES IN LOVE - great outdoors!
62. SUPERBOY (1990 ED.) - Bizarro is fun!
63. REPLACEMENT GOD - black tee!
64. BLUE ESTATE - window!
65. JSA
66. NAMOR - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
67. . CRIME MUST PAY THE PENALTY - nice action shot
68. ROUTE 666 - oooh mysterious

60. Route 666. There's about as many things in the Kents cover. But there, they are almost random. In 666, you see hints of the story.
This might be an American thing. Bullets/casings over a picture of Abraham Lincoln strongly suggests The Kents had some connection to the Lincoln assassination -- or at least sets the time period. ("Brother Versus Brother" is a frequent description for the US Civil War, so more likely time period establishment.) The Lincoln assassination is a Big Historical Deal here. (Garfield and McKinley...not so much.)

57. JSA. Go on with your bad self, Belle!
58. FEARLESS DEFENDERS.
59. Eh, I don't care. PUBLIC ENEMIES because it's faster to type.
60. ROUTE 666.
61. THE INVISIBLES (1997).
62. WATCHMEN. Side title allows the statute to FILL the space.
63. SENSATION COMICS! I have loved this since I first saw it in whichever Archives. (Even though I generally don't like puppeteer/marionette covers -- it's been DONE, son.) And how dingy it makes FF look!
64. DAZZLER gets right to the point. Proto-Darkchylde Realness.

61. Invisibles 1997. A moment when the book had some potential compared to the other cover which clearly shows the elephant in the room (or shrine) that it had squandered anything it might have had.
62. Watchmen. Nicely captures the nostalgia of a hero who looks back on golden days. Many of Astro City's aspirations can be found in the feeling this cover evokes.
63. Sensation. It's an unusual pose to find a hero/ine in, as it's always the villain as seen in the FF cover. Of course, Bondage Woman being in control suits one of the themes and those strings will be handy for tying things up later. The Sensation cover also gives you an idea of what gods and superheroes might do for dramatic entertainment. There's a classical looking down from Olympus quality to it. Or, if not looking from Olympus, at least looking from the Bullfinch.
64. Supergirl. While it's a terrible example to show superheroes getting stoned, I'm not keen on all the orangyness over in Dazzler. I thought that was Binary at first, rather than the main character.

61. THE INVISIBLES (1997) - creative depiction
62. WATCHMEN - can't go wrong with a gold statue
63. FANTASTIC FOUR - the action on this one is clearer
64. DAZZLER - pretty colooooors

65. SECRET ORIGINS - like the positioning better
66. GHOST -although green appeals to me more, I think Ghost's art is better
67. NEW COMICS
68. MISS FURY - dramatic!

63. Secret Origins. Toughie. Two really good uses of the background. Despite better art, X-Men loses points for Spidey. What is his web attached to. He's swinging from a crouched position on the floor? Secret Origins is a little busy on the title front and Shady loses points for those heels. But, Doll Man's appearance and the shattered effect wins.
64. Ghost. Crumbs another real toughie. Lots of SIP love and more great use of the background to create emotions and frame. But the transparency effects of Ghost gets the win.
65. New Comics. Ah the Golden Age. I can't decide which is funnier. The child eating out of garbage to survive or the child stealing apples to feed his family. And both are about to fall foul of the law. >ironic chuckles< New wins for having one of Rickshaw's pals on the front.
66. Miss Fury. I'm almost over the rejection of my Crimson Camel feature back in '42. But why does the Toy Master have life sized animals? Why does he look like Henry V? Miss Fury loses points for that cape. Lucky it didn't get caught on the skylight. But the big loser is the US government for it's not so secret drawer labelling system.

61. INVISIBLES '97. More engaging and I like covers that highlight the characters within more.
62. WATCHMEN. One cover asks a question, the other hints at some answers. I like the Watchmen one better. It asks less, yet I'm more intrigued.
63. FANTASTIC FOUR. I like the colors on this one.
64. DAZZLER. Supergirl's is just too much!
65. X-MEN. They're both mostly "pose" covers with the pretense of action happening around them. I just like it better.
66. GHOST. Looks nifty, not much other logic.
67. NEW COMICS.
68. MISS FURY. Get it, lady!

61. INVISIBLES 97. I read about 3 issues of that bought on a lark because Jiminez was doing the art. NO CLUE what was going on. Never looked back.
62. WATCHMEN
63. I like both, but SENSATION for the win.
64. That run of SUPERGIRL is nothing but great, nutty covers.
65. I like both but SECRET ORIGINS has 2 favorites on it.
66. STRANGERS IN PARADISE. I had that issue. I remember at the time, STRANGERS IN PARADISE was made out to be THE EVERYTHING. I remember nothing much about the series though, other than it being soap operatic.
67. Both are terrible and seem to revel in making fun of the poor/hungry. Very UNfunny. I prefer the faces on FUNNY PAGES. My windows paint faces are more attractive than those goons on New Comics.
68. The startled animal faces on Green Lama are great and I like the cover coloring, but MISS FURY is just delightful, so her.
69. That border on LIL LULU is just great, but there's truly something a little magical about the R-A+A cover. This has been my hardest choice this entire post so far. I'm giving it to ANN + ANDY.
70. BoP. This issue was a HUGE DEAL for old skool Batgirl fans HUGE DEAL.
71. SSOSV has this one far and away! Grodd was a real superstar through the first half of this title's run and he looks impressive here! plus: Kid Flash, the groovy 70s version!
72. Both are evocative but BATWOMAN is tops.

69. RAGGEDY ANN + ANDY - Very charming and I like the straightforward, whimsical story it's telling.
70. BIRDS OF PREY - What a great issue. I really like the cover though because it's depicting a quieter moment and a relationship dynamic rather than a usual Big 2 cover trope like a battle or pose-off.
71. SSOSV - Sorry, Legionnaires. I really like the action going on here better.
72. BATWOMAN - I like the visual better, even if the glow effects are a little heavy.

65. X-MEN! The swirly B&W, plus the pop of Spidey!
66. GHOST. I like the green of the other, but girl, get out them bushes for pete's sake!
67. NEW COMICS for slightly better art.
68. GREEN LAMA, 'cause that shit is NUTS.
69. LITTLE LULU. Don't mess with Lu!
70. BIRDS OF PREY. BABS IS MY GIRL AND MY GIRL'S FLYIN'!
71. SUPERMAN. It's the use of white space and colors!
72. BATWOMAN. The blur-causing rainstorm? Yes, I'll have some of that, please!
