MISTERIOS DE CUARTO CERRADO (Mysteries Of Closed Rooms) cover by LEANDRO FERNANDEZ (Pictus / Argentina / 2014) 8 comics adaptations of stories from Arthur Conan Doyle, Wilkie Collins, Gilbert K. Chesterton, Jacques Futrelle, and of course, Edgar Allan Poe. The stories I got this for were " THE PURLOINED LETTER" illustrated by Oscar Capritso, and " THE MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE" illustrated by Leandro Fernandez. A special thanks must go to Delfino Maroni at the QuioSquito online book store in ARGENTINA. The site is really set up to attract foreign sales, and he went way beyond the pale to make my purchase as pleasant as possible. The international shipping was a lot more than it could have been, but I specifically wanted the National Postal System, as it was the only way I could make sure it was delivered to my new PO BOX, instead of my porch. Too much chaos of late in my neighborhood, and the added expense at BOTH ends is to ensure I eliminate a lot of STRESS related to it.

My latest acquisition: JOYAS DE LA LITERATURA 17cover by F. SAMANIEGO (Novedades Editores / Mexico / November 15, 1984) CUENTOS DE TERROR: "LA MUERTA ROJA" / Version 20 "LA CITA" ("THE APPOINTMENT") / ("THE ASSIGNATION") / Version 1 "METZENGERSTEIN" / Version 8 "EL CUERVO" / Version 21 Adaptations by Remy Bastien Jr. / Text by Mecedes Arce B. / Art by ALFONSO MARTINEZ These things rarely ever turn up on Ebay, and when they do, I have to JUMP on them, or they're gone... and they may not turn up again! I've been slowly compiling indexes (and cover mages) of these 2 series: NOVELAS INMORTALES (in B&W) and JOYAS DE LA LITERATURA (in color). There are literally around 900 issues of each, and most of them I have never laid eyes on, nor are they indexed anywhere in any comprehensive form. I'm hoping to change that. But in the meantime, I have to keep an eye out.

One of the most STUNNING upgrades of a previously-posted story to date! from ALBUM CLASSICOS DE TERROR #6(Editora Taika / Brazil / 1968) comes the 3rd comics version of Poe's "BERENICE" Art by Ignacio Justo & "Edegar" (now REMASTERED from HIGH-RES scans!) http://professorhswaybackmachine.blogspot.com/2016/03/poe-1968-pt-2.html

My latest acquisition & cover restoration: TALES FROM ETERNAL WORLDS #1(Rogue Comics / Ireland / February 2019) cover by Oisin Roche This is my very FIRST comic from Ireland. It's a magazine-size "TPB" format, with painted covers (front and back) and a contents page that clearly mimicks a design from the Warren books. It's entirely the work of ONE artist, Oisin Roche, and it's one of the STRANGEST books I have ever laid eyes on. I can tell this guy knows how to draw, but his inks / finishes are just... BIZARRE. The stories (by a variety of writers, including Poe) are, if anything, even more bizarre. With some of the crazy S*** I've seen in the last few years, this isn't the most disturbing, but I honestly think if it hadn't been for a 5-page adaptation of " Silence" (one of Poe's most obscure, indefinable works), I doubt I would have gone after this. The Poe story has the MOST accomplished art, by far. The rest meanders somewhere between "ethereal" and "unfinished" somehow. I'm glad Morten F. Thomsen pointed this out to me. Being it's from such a small company, I figured there might be a limited print run, which was why I jumped on it so fast. But I guess part of me is hoping this guy, if he does more issues, DOESN'T do any more Poe. This one book is more than enough of his work, for me. (I hate sounding negative, but I am trying to be honest.)

This is HUGE. I've just polished off the FINAL story from Taika. After this, if I tackle any more Taika stories, they'll either be if I get ahold of a pair of comics I currently have fuzzy scans of, or, if I decide to translate some " Dracula" episodes. I've been working on Taika, off-and-on, for over 4-1/2 YEARS, ever since I first found Luiz Saidenberg's version of " The Black Cat". Toni Rodrigues really helped kick it into high gear when he e-mailed me 8 complete stories, all HIGH-RES scans from the original 60s comics. It'll be great to FINALLY be able to move forward, to other things, from other countries. This turned up as a reprint from 1973 at the Banca Dos Gibis Brazucas blog, thanks to Flavio Barbier. If anyone can help me identify where it was ORIGINALLY published, you'll have my thanks (and credit at the blog). from ( currently unknown) (Editora Taika / Brazil / 1968) comes the 1st comics version of Poe's "THE IMP OF THE PERVERSE" Art by Ignacio Justo & "Edegar" http://professorhswaybackmachine.blogspot.com/2019/12/poe-1968-pt-29.html

Been waiting to get to this since last summer (which isn't anywhere near as long as some of the items I'm looking forward to tackling)... from 3 HISTOIRES EXTRAORDINAIRES(Editions Serg / France / January 1973) comes the 7th comics version of Poe's "THE GOLD BUG" Art by Alexi-Thomas Hinsberger https://professorhswaybackmachine.blogspot.com/2020/01/poe-1968-pt-31.htmlCreated in 1968 but not published until 5 years later!

This one's about 5-1/2 YEARS overdue... from THE SPIRIT(Register & Tribune Syndicate / August 22, 1948) comes the 3rd comics version of Poe's "THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER" Art by Will Eisner & Jerry Grandenetti https://professorhswaybackmachine.blogspot.com/2020/02/poe-1948-pt-1.htmlPage 2 I couldn't shake the feeling that Jerry Grandenetti based the un-named narrator on actor Hans Conreid.
