1. NEW TEEN TITANS. SATT is campy, groovy, and glorious, but NTT just too beautiful. (And I say Donna and the gods win.)

2. MY LOVE MEMOIRS. What you think doesn't matter any more!!

3. ALLEY OOP. The subtler color choices make it stand out.

4. BLACK CAT. The Big Dot does its magic once again! Plus a rootin' tootin' Miss Linda Turner, of course.

5. TERRY AND THE PIRATES. Double Big Dot takes it!

6. DAREDEVIL.

7. SEA DEVILS. The lines, the colors!

8. ACTION COMICS. There's no denying Contact's charm, but Action is the whole package.

17. Blackhawk (DC) 9great use of the central black as body and sky)
18. Tales of the Unexpected (with the 1st appearance of the legendary Green Mitten)
19. Promethea (although the Spectre is nice but doesn't have the full cultural vibe)
20. Astro City (The Terrible Trio bring friends!)
9. ALL-STAR. The art's not as polished, but that's not always the point.

10. MS. MARVEL. Mary's my girl, and Wow had charm. But Carol! You're the antagonist, and she's seconds away from punching your lights out.

11. BRIDES IN LOVE. I like the "everyday"-ness of it. No crazy plot or ridiculous problem, just happy folks having a smooch before breakfast.

12. CTHULHU TALES. Suspense over shock.

13. THE WITCHING HOUR. The black and white of the logo, the pink, and that small bit of purple with the witch's hat...I really like this coloring.

14. RUSE. Yeah, that's right!

15. WENDY. Let's face it, Harvey had solid quality control of their kids' lines -- I don't know if I've ever seen a poor cover. So it all comes down to which gag you think is funnier. Or something like LOVING THAT GREEN.

16. AQUAMAN. This was HARD.

17. BLACKHAWK (DC). EASY. Quality also tended to have well-done covers, but the DC one here is just awesome.

18. I LOVE YOU. He can't die with the green glove --- she's gonna use hers TO LIVE!

19. PROMETHEA. But if that orange was another color (I don't like it next to the green) Spectre would probably win.

20. ASTRO CITY. When I put this together, I though the Arrow Shirt couple on Lazarus was going to get my vote. Nope, the white elements got me like a moth to a flame.

22. Magic Comics (After lighting a match next to dynamite, "Muffles" Scarburn fights crime as the Third Degree Man)
23. Mister Miracle (One of the first "meh" matchups. Too much going on in dead boy, too desperate trying to be interesting)
24. Legion of Superheroes (classic battered cruiser cover)

1. Cardy does NOT automatically win!! I respond best to the Titanic tussle elaborately drawn by George Perez!

2. NOT A HOAX. NOT A DREAM. IT HAD TO HAPPEN. And it is. IT'S A TIE. Just lie there and let it happen, why don't you? One has DeeDee level craziness and suspect hairbrushing technique, one has plastic ass and the bends. Both rock equally.

3. MILLIE.

4. That darling of comics BLACK CAT!

5. SUPERRMAN's super dates!

6. DAREDEVIL has more dynacysm! Or whatevs.

7. Like Lois Lane, I suspect SEA DEVILS will trump any comers.

8. ACTION by a hair but both bore me.

25. Lover's Lane (Lois' book when she was tired of waiting for Superman)
26. Herbie (The text on the Flaming Carrot cover is much better, but too hard to make out. I never noticed it before, and I have that one.)
27. Young Heroes (Don't want to know the details behind the other one)
28. Famous Authors (The Headless guy seems to have gone trough someone garden gnome collection there. Besides the pointing, I'm a huge fan of The Rajah Takes the Census. Right up there with The Green Mitten.)

25. BOY MEETS GIRL. Lover's Lane is a bit too twee.

26. FLAMING CARROT. That gorilla has weird arms, and what's with that shadow. It 'reads' strangely to my eyes.

27. SECRET WARS. I gotta add that to the evil eyebrows thread!

29 Romantic Adventures. Tough choice between Romantic Threesomes and Falling into Threesomes. So it came down to liking the plant pot more than the planes.
30 Spiderman. The Earth 2 one has a decent effect, but it's not as original as Spidey.
31 Captain Marvel. Toughest one yet. Robot dog chase is great, but the Cap cover just has so much power to it. How long before his buddies get sick of his invulnerability?
32 Ms Marvel. Close call but I thought the Iron Man cover was the start of a Daft Punk video.

Those were draws! Too bad! Sometimes both covers have to suck it up and accept a tie!
Ties get you the knotty corner!

[Linked Image]
29. FALLING IN LOVE. Yeah, the other one has a pseudo-salacious premise, but the art & coloring of FIL sets it apart.

30. SUPERIOR FOES OF SPIDER-MAN. Hip, man, hip.

31.CAPTAIN MARVEL. Bulletman has whimsy going for it, but what's up with Bulletgirl standing around in the background?

34. The Trouble with Girls (1988)
35. Aquaman. Toughy: Seahorse chariot races with laser lances vs slinky female characters with magic torches. Robin loses points for trying to run villains over with his bike.
36. Daring. Another toughie. The way the eyes on the Stamp Lady watch the fight vs the second background windmill telling us exactly what the foreground characters are about to fight on+ the tie clasp.

9. ALL-STAR! That run was blessed with surprisingly good GA covers!

10. MS. MARVEL's boobs top Mary's space-penis!

11. JUST MARRIED. That other thing is totes phoned in.

12. MYSTERY. The other is bit THE STRAIN-ey. MYSTERY seems more original.

41. My Love. Super toughie, as a lot of the romance ones are. My Love has the better art, better design and much better cover text. But Our Love Story has a much more distraught central character and a cad who's picking up his next girlfriend in front of her! But does he have shirt/shoe coordination?
42. Queen and Country
43. Mr. District Attorney. Defender of the brain switching Gorilla Ultra Humanite! >gasp!<

35. AQUAMAN.

36. DARING ADVENTURES. Even though it's kind of a mess! The space age and Rococo fonts don't go, for one thing. The stamp clinches it, though.

37. THE BOUNCER. Gotta bounce!

38.X-TREME X-MEN. I guess. I don't really care.

39. SUPERMAN.

40. NEW ADVENTURE COMICS. More Fun gag is pretty thin. New Adventure is a pretty standard (even at that time) Old Year /Baby New Year non-gag, but the art's better and hey, there's the Big Dot.

41. OUR LOVE STORY. Composition!

45. Famous Funnies - Popular has that "Just out of the Depression" desperation to the characters. What could be funnier than kids with volatile explosives?
46. Heroic - Max Brillante was a famous musician and intelligence agent before his fatal accident with the falling bassoon case. But he returned from beyond as ...The Music Master! The other cover has a bunch of balloons in it.
47. Teen-age Romances - Funnily, both Don and Kevin are seeing the blonde in the background.
48. Atom - oooh, Silver Age classics. But using the Atom to power Atomic devices is more novel than critters.

13. I kinda like both but GHOST MANOR takes it, because the crone is kinda lame looking.

14. I dislike both. I'd vote neither, but if forced-- and as I understand it, I am-- it's RUSE.

15. HOT STUFF might have won if they'd made the effort for a real infinity cover, but they didn't so I'm giving this to WENDY because DAAAAAAW.

16. I alwyas love hen Mera gets her due. AQUAMAN.
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/20/15 01:39 AM
17. Both are appealing, but I'm responding better to BLACKHAWK (DC).

18. Both are terrible yet I want desperately to read the stories based on the covers, so both are successful. I'll give it to I LOVE YOU because of poor Fatty Too-Stout No Love > Glove.

19. I like both but especially like PROMETHEA.

20. ASTRO CITY is reminded me of the film YOU'RE NEXT. That's a good thing!

CORRECT.

29. Falling in Love -- I'm intrigued by the eavesdropping pilot!
30. Superior Foes of Spider-Man -- not a huge fan of either, but I'm a little more inclined to read this one!
31. Bulletman -- I want to win a prize for naming Bulletdog!
32. Ms. Marvel -- Call her "Heck Kitty"!
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/20/15 02:16 AM
21. (blank stare) Not much to work with here. BEANWORLD at least has color shifting in the background, so that steals the win barely, 'cause the other IS cute.

22. MAGIC COMICS wins. I'm assuming LOVE FIGHTS requires you to sorta know what is going on in the book to understand it. And the fact that it's dull if you don't means it is a fail for me at compelling me to want to know what takes place inside.

23. I love both but DISTRESSED EMUS 12 FTW!

24. Giffen sure knew how to make an effective LSH cover without any characters on it. See also that destroyed moon cover. Coipel gets an A for effort though. Team shots are nice but Giffen trumps here.
Posted By: Eryk Davis Ester Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/20/15 02:22 AM
33. Batman: Dark Victory -- Scary Two-Face!
34. The Trouble With Girls (1988) -- Adventures Comics #300 homages are love!
35. Aquaman -- Giant seahorses rule!
36. Daring Adventures -- Stamps + the Phantom Lady = win!
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/20/15 10:36 AM
25. I love both but the puppy takes the win for LOVERS' LANE

26. Both turn me off, but HERBIE FTW because Gorilla.

27. The cartoony art of YOUNG HEROES IN LOVE played jarringly and very well on the serious events inside, such as Hardware's going totally cracker-crusted shitball nuts.

28. Both have pluses and minuses. Forced to choose one I choose CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED (HEADLESS HORSEMAN).
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/20/15 08:14 PM
29. The origin of Jennifer Warnes' 70s soft rock smash FTW. Loving you both is breaking all the rules. Even more than we originally thought, because those dudes are TWINS.

30. I like the design of both, but SUPERIOR FOES/SPIDER Man for the win.

31. I LOVE BOTH and want to call it a tie. But realistically, that beautiful CAPTAIN MARVEL cover must trump Bulletgirl appearing.

32. I'm sorta into both. This one is toughest of the bunch. The colors of Ms Marvel want me to call it for her but the Iron Man one has a quiet beauty. This exact issue of MS. MARVEL just went into my yard sale comics box. So I'll give it to her as a last hurrah.
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/20/15 08:23 PM
33. CASE FILES. So realistic looking!

34. TROUBLE WITH GIRLS Adventure homage of course. I will be surprised if this one isn't a total shutout.

35. Cardy AQUAMAN

36. Not as easy for me to choose as the others. DARING has Phantom Lady which is usually an instant win but she looks very ARCHIE COMICS GROUP here (which is kinda cool). I *love* the name JOHNNY DYNAMITE and there's no word balloon to mess up that j'awesome art. Dare I? I do dare. DRAW.

Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/20/15 09:40 PM
37. THE BOUNCER. Yeah he bounces alright... up and down on a bunch of great big {deleted}.

38. YAS trumps white background

39. SUPERMAN (I've never seen that cover before)

40. NEW ADVENTURE COMICS. Totes vintage year on the cover, non white background.
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/20/15 11:39 PM
41. I feel another tie. BOTH ARE MAGNIFICENT. IF PRESSED... REALLY REALLY HARD... I give the edge for the word-baloonless masterpiece MY LOVE.

42. HAWKEYE appeals to my love for trippy art.

43. I DEFEND MY LOVE FOR THE COVER PROCLAIMING I DEFENDED THE MONKEY MAN.

44. I like both (Josie's long forgotten pal Pepper~~~~!!) but the gag on MAD HOUSE is better. I like the art on JOSIE better though. Both have terrible white backgrounds. I think more effort went into JOSIE, so that FTW.
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/20/15 11:44 PM
45. Both are just a skoch primitive for my taste, but I did a literal LOL at the gag on FAMOUS FUNNIES, so that.

46. I *want* to give it to 7SV but can't. HEROIC COMICS.

47. Quite a glare there on TEEN AGE, but it's too yappy. GOING STEADY for the win.

48. HAWKMAN. Atom cover is dull, and that premise shouldn't be.
Posted By: Eryk Davis Ester Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/20/15 11:48 PM
37. THE BOUNCER -- The Daredevil is about a million times cooler super-hero than the Bouncer, but I totes prefer this cover!

38. THE YOUNG ALL-STARS -- They just look groovier!

39. SUPERMAN -- Forget Lana and Lois, Lori Lemaris is Love!

40. MORE FUN COMICS -- Mostly because I find the other one a bit creepy!
Posted By: Eryk Davis Ester Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/20/15 11:55 PM
41. MY LOVE -- Not an easy one, but this one has the whole mystery of why she can't be with him, which intrigues me, while the other one is basically just "he loves someone else", which is pretty common.
42. HAWKEYE -- just looks cool!
43. MR. DISTRICT ATTORNEY -- I want to hear why he defended the Monkey Man!
44. SHE'S JOSIE -- I like the gag on the other one, but this one has a lot more than just the one gag!
Posted By: Eryk Davis Ester Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/21/15 12:03 AM
45. POPULAR COMICS -- for moral reasons!

46. HEROIC COMICS -- Like 'em both but this one is just awesome!

47. GOING STEADY -- Love the shot from inside the fireplace!

48. ATOM -- Atom gun thingie is cute, but I'm really intrigued by the Edgar Allan Poe appearance!

49. NEXT MEN -- Ugh, the whiteness! This one wins because of lines in the whiteness!
50. iZOMBIE -- This was a tough one, but I'll give it to the cover on a cover gimmick!
51. KATY KEENE -- Because slutty Katy appeals to me more than Fairy Princess Katy!
52. DEADLY CLASS -- Pretty sure I've had dreams like this!
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/21/15 02:53 AM
49. NEXT MEN, if I must. AND I AIN'T GOTTA, because CANCER. So keep that in mind next time (kindly smile)

50. iZOMBIE for sure, Ellie looks GREAT! I'm still a bit bitter over the TV show ditching her. In fact, I stopped watching about 4 eps in.

51. Settle yer gay ass down, K.O, and face it-- you don't please your woman. Now go to the gay bar and see if you can please a dude. I sense great success for you there!

52. IMHUMAN. BEAT HIS ASS, Medusa!
45. FAMOUS FUNNIES. Both gags are weak. Popular Comics art is flat. FF wins for the green chair!

46. REG'LAR FELLERS HEROIC COMICS. Leading has charm, no doubt. But it's gotta be Heroic.

47. TEEN-AGE ROMANCES. Yes, another Baker battle. Going Steady a fine cover, and a very different flavor -- a happy couple enjoying a cozy moment. But that microscope!

48. HAWKMAN. Atom has SA whimsy, and I appreciate that, but that Hawkman cover can't be denied. Pencils, colors, framing, the whole package.

49. DARK AVENGERS.

49. Dark Avengers - tough as both are so dull. The Avengers figures are better drawn. While the next men seem to have landed somewhere causing the lines, the lines are there so people won't think it's another Snowbird issue from Byrne.

50. Vinyl Underground - That portcullis could make it a final issue in more ways than one, if it falls on their heads. JLA jaded me to covers within covers for izombie.

51. Katy Keene - Not so much for the joke, but for the fairy/flower other cover and that Katy has animals lined up to attack and devour K.O. to cover her wayward ways.

52. Deadly Class - I like Medusa's hair as a blood in the water effect a lot. However, the "we're completely screwed" dream quality of Class wins.

53. Rex -in the Terror of Tornado Twins Town. But will he save Rain Girl in this Legion crossover? Over in Big Town, some dame hopes that her nail biting superpower will save the day.

54. Punch. Simply classic comic cover. Elsewhere, having enjoyed being possessed by Darkseid, Turpin starts to channel Despero in an All-Chess Action Special.

55. X-Men. Ugh. Don't care for either. Mckeever's drunken heroes lose out to Kubert's drug trip Xavier.

56. Humour - Ah, the good old days, when humour books could sell without a joke on the cover. Kelly gets it for being able to see his shins.

I has some of them. I used to see them in a catalogue. The premise of a top secret agent who would rather do anything than but be involved in espionage or have gorgeous women fall all over him in swanky casinos appealed.

53. Both are really well done for the time. I'm giving it to REX.

54. Two more really good ones, but the gun violence is making me nervous, so I'm giving it to DYNAMIC.

55. UMARVELTU whimsy beats out Prof X crankiness.

56. The ALL HUMOR gag is better. Ya gotta love a great big ol' manwhore in ill-fitting pantaloons.

53. REX. I almost went the other way, but the chick's stance annoys me.
54. DYNAMIC. I really like the cops and robbers chess pieces.
55. ULTIMATE MARVEL TEAM-UP. These guys look like they are having fun.

Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/22/15 01:45 AM
57. I really love both. But the edge goes to the totes obvs Cardy angular action combined with the retro-mod logo. That plus the frightful premise. Skeletons ain't usually scary-- until one is causing you to drown. Gosh, that PS cover is lovely though. It's allllmost a tie.

58. MICKEY FINN looks like a nice guy. I know Little Lulu is super classic, though, and I just adore that sunshine smile border. I almost hate to but I'm giving it to Mickey.

59. Now I LIKE a nice black/white cover and both of these are good. i'm giving the edge to MIND MGMT for being more original than the 101 Dalmations-ish Barbie cover.

60. Sorry Archie, your boring white background cannot beat the hot teen on teen kissery of TIPPY TEEN!
Posted By: Eryk Davis Ester Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/22/15 03:44 AM
57. PHANTOM STRANGER -- Both are fantastic, but I'll give the slight edge to this one. On another day, it might have gone the other way!
58. MICKEY FINN -- I hope those kids don't get eaten by tigers after sneaking into the circus, though!
59. MIND MGMT -- Mostly a vote against Cruella de Barbie!
60. TIPPY TEEN -- I went back and forth on this one, but I eventually went for the sweetness of this one!

Posted By: thoth lad Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/22/15 09:54 PM
57. Dark Mansion. Every bit as tough as the romance covers. "I know I said any woman would do, Stranger, but...." loses out to EC revenge creepiness.

58. Little Lulu - one of the kids is being crushed to death on the stairs, which is funnier than Mickey Finn: Corrupt Cop.

59. Barbie. Barbie is clearly the best dressed/coordinated. It also gets points for the lipstick flourish under the title and the Dalmatian looking up her skirt (see Garfield Logan). But the dress doesn't quite merge. Mind you, mind mgt isn't quite Eisner enough on the title. Behind that paper, there's just the reverse of those white covers.

60. Tippy Teen: Possible morality tale in Archie. I'm going with Tipsy Tippy Teen.

61. Heathcliff. Homage Event cover wins.

62. Skeleton Key. As much as I like art nouveau, I'm worried about Pandora's leg cramp.

63. Forbidden Worlds. I recall posing for that Nasty Genie cover, although I'm sure I had nipples then. I guess that mystery is why it's called "Chest of Death".

64. Detective. The poster doesn't crumple, and clearly it should say "Wanted for Moider." But it wins for that great shirt. I had to enlarge the Flash cover to make sure he wasn't using super flatulence. Yes, they're our enemies. But some day we want the war to end!
61. ARCHIE ANNUAL
62. WAR GODDESS
63. FORBIDDEN WORLDS

61. ARCHIE

62. Don't really care. WAR GODDESS

63. FORBIDDEN WORLDS if I must pick one of these so-so covers.

64. DETECTIVE COMICS chills me... imagine finding your own face there. Flash is cute as per usual for his covers but not cute enough to win.

65. I like the suspense of both and choose the less yappy AVENGERS.

66. CAPTAIN MARVEL

67. The excited fan artists on SUPERBOY win me over

68. I'm gonna gay marry Natch and become one of those THE KILROYS! Buzzy can fuck off. So can all those clingy chicks on Natch's lifeguard tower (throws acid at them)
Posted By: Eryk Davis Ester Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/23/15 09:11 PM
61. HEATCHCLIFF -- guest-starring the Marvel universe.
62. WAR GODDESS -- just because of the background.
63. FORBIDDEN WORLDS -- That genie is showing off his "chest of death"!
64. FLASH COMICS -- Take that, you Ratzis!
Posted By: Eryk Davis Ester Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/23/15 09:18 PM
65. AVENGERS -- Feel the power of the hammer of Thor!
66. CAPTAIN MARVEL -- Like the more blatant display of power.
67. SUPERBOY -- This cover is just total love!
68. BUZZY -- Poor guy! I've totes been there!
Posted By: thoth lad Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/23/15 11:17 PM
65. FANTASTIC FOUR - although Johnny deserves what he gets for feeling the Hulk.
66. SHE HULK - Considering the super strength, the spiky knuckle dusters are a bit redundant.
67. BINKY - "Now look at the adult doodles blackboard, Superboy" loses out to fairly bland binks.
68. THE KILROYS - Although Buzzy's delusions are pretty strong.
53. BIG TOWN.

54. PUNCH COMICS. Although I don't like either. Or anything from Chesler/Dynamic.

55. ULTIMATE X-MEN.

56. HUMOR. What a difference a professional-looking logo makes!

57. PHANTOM STRANGER. The battle of perspective...this time I picked the rectangle over the pierced circle.

58. LITTLE LULU. Fun & sunshine!

59. BARBIE. Aw, what the hell. You flounce that shit, girl.

60. ARCHIE'S PALS 'N' GALS.

61. HEATHCLIFF.

62. SKELETON KEY. I like Art Nouveau fo sho, but SK wins. (Side note: it kinda reminds me of an LWer who needs to get her own self back here.)

63. FORBIDDEN WORLDS. Neither all that impressive, but other than the nice background color, Unknown Worlds kind of a snooze.

64. FLASH COMICS. Green background + jazz hands! BOOM.

65. AVENGERS. I guess. Neither is really a standout. I was born way too late for THE HULK MEETING THE FF!!!! to be an event.

66. SHE-HULK. I like both, but with She-Hulk there's the question of whether she's gonna punch your lights out or knock you out with litigation.

67. SUPERBOY. Chalkboards, the pre-internet internet!

68. BUZZY. I appreciate the more sophisticates palette of The Kilroys, but the curved-line stylization on the early Buzzy covers is just too cute.

70. 1ST ISSUE SPECIAL
71. CRISIS
72. FF
Posted By: thoth lad Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/24/15 08:35 PM
69. Lois Lane - I had to check that the person holding up Superman wasn't Jimmy Olsen. Lois' bitterness wins the day, if not Superman's heart >choke!<
70. Space Adventures - Starman's leg is always going to look broken to me in 1st Issue special. Besides, Cap gets points for getting Drura home safely.
71. Crisis - It's such an iconic cover. "We must stop The Monitor's operatic performance or the Earth will Die!" But had it not been for that, it would be the Metal Men - the angst, the lack of self worth, decapitation, their impending doom, Doc being turned on by robots. It's all there!
72. Batman - for the card images. Remember FF: Not in front of the children!
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/24/15 10:09 PM
69. Someone call that 4th-dimensional surgeon! Meanwhile, LOIS LANE wins because any comic calling a female character "girl (whatever)" WINS. See my very own 5 issue miniseries TRASH LASS: GIRL GARBAGE COLLECTOR for proof of my belief in this!

70. Hard to believe anything CHARLTON is giving DC a run for the money but there's the power of the starfield. Ultimately, the win MUST go to Kubert on 1ST ISSUE SPECIAL (it helps that the retron mod logo is a real turn on too).

71. Shut yer bellyachin' Lead, CRISIS is taking this. Perez is AN UNPARALLELED MASTER OF DETAIL but everyone already knows this.

72. Allred vs Allred? That's just mean. my head says give it to BATMAN but you missed a spot... in my heart heart heart... so it goes to FF because kids and Miss Thing!

69. JIMMY OLSEN wins for the 4d reference!
70. SPACE ADVENTURES for me!
71. CRISIS - such a classic!
72. BATMAN '66 - Marsha, Queen of Diamonds is love!
69. LOIS LANE. At least someone's doing someTHING instead of just yap yap yapping. And look at Supes' sassy hand-on-hips pose!

70. 1ST ISSUE SPECIAL. Check out that costume! Coulda been Thom's in the sexy disco era, ha! Space Adventures is sad and depressing.

73. ROMANTIC LOVE -- No need to say you're flirting!
74. TALES OF THE MYSTERIOUS TRAVELER - I think it would be better without the speech bubble, though!
75. KONGA - I'm turned off by the awkward neck stretching on the other one!
76. DAREDEVIL - Not a huge fan of either one, but this tells me more of a story!
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/25/15 12:09 AM
73. I LOVE BOTH. Wow. I want to give it to the chick glaring/sneering (snaring? gleering?) on RL, but I WAS AN UNTAMED FILLY! LOVE LIFE for the win! (flashes boobs, explains that as a flirt, I do such things)

74. UNEXPLORED WORLDS because lettering does matter.

75. Nice finger action on Konga but that 20 cents time of DC with half covers is SO retro fabulous to me. SWAMP THING ftw.

76. Not really liking either overly much, but there's a few... nice things... about that DAREDEVIL art... so it. (isn't undressing a comic character with eyes)

80. TITANS
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/25/15 06:06 AM
77. NEW MUTANTS-- a period the comic was about to EXPLODE INTO SUPER GREATNESS for me. Whereas EXCALIBUR, For me as I recall went more downhill as it progressed.

78. I hate both, sorry. Really hate. Abstain. Reasons if you must: Dude begging for his life is hurting me to see, and shooting someone in the back (anywhere really) sickens me, plus SUSPENSTORIES has always irritated me as a word. Art on neither is worth writing home about for me. Blame it on chemo madness if you must.

79. GO-GO's pants win the whole internet!!

80. Well fuck-all. I got all bitch boxy about gun violence on shit covers, and now there's implied gun violence on covers I like. Let's pretend it's super-fatassing raygun violence here. Pretending is nice. I'm pretending Ryan Bertroche is making me a grilled cheese clad only in his boy-panties as I type. I'm NOT pretending that ALPHA FLIGHT 12 wins 'cause it does.
73. MY LOVE LIFE. My, there are some frank looks/words in this duo! Romantic Love sure has scary bangs though.

74. MYSTERIOUS TRAVELER. What's that other thing...an egg, a mirror, a portal?

75. KONGA. Get the point?

76. DAREDEVIL. I bought this just because I liked this cover.

77. EXCALIBUR! Davis! Cute!

78. CRIME SUSPENSTORIES. Like Hitchcock to the other cover's cheap cable TV movie.

79. TIPPY'S FRIEND GO-GO. Scooter is a little busy.

80. ALPHA FLIGHT.

1) New Teen Titans
2) My Love Memoirs
3) Millie the Model - love
4) Black Cat – great composition with the big moon in the background!
5) Superman – love that cover with Supes and the soldiers
6) Daredevil – truly great modern cover!
7) Sea Devils – Russ!
8) Action – Contact Comics – never seen this cover before, and it’s beautiful!
9) Justice League - love the old JLA covers and this is a great one.
10) Ms. Marvel – tough choice. Don’t love either cover.
11) Brides in Love – if I was 10 and saw this cover, you bet I’d want to get married right then and there! Is that what married folk do all day?
12) Mister Mystery – classic eye in peril!
Posted By: Cobalt Kid Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/25/15 04:16 PM
13) Ghost Manor – it’s the coloring that puts it over the top. Well done.
14) Watchmen – iconic
15) Hot Stuff – never read a comic featuring this character but I like him already.
16) Aquaman – got this when it came out and I was about 14. Seeing it now makes me feel about 14.
17) Blackhawk (DC) – really dynamic! The little planes in the front really sell it just right.
18) Tales of the Unexpected – I see this cover and I *want* to read this story!
19) Spectre – tough call because I know the Promethea issue inside is actually far superior, but I really like this Spectre cover, which I otherwise would have never remembered existed.
20) Astro City – the Lazarus cover is beautiful but there is no denying how utterly phenomenal that Astro City cover is!
21) Tales of the Beanworld – for some reason, the “string” or whatever it (making it an ornament?) makes it more appealing. Also the color is easier on the eyes.
22) Magic Comics – the Love Fights cover is too minimal. The Magic Comics cover isn’t all that great though.
23) Dead Boy Detectives
24) TMK LSH - #12 is among my favorite covers in the history of comics. (As is TMK #4). This cover is a phenomenal turning point in the history of the Legion. I’ve found myself getting choked up looking at it before.
Posted By: Cobalt Kid Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/25/15 04:16 PM
25) Boy Meets Girl – something is going on in that scene, and I want to find out what exactly!
26) Flaming Carrot – great composition and color. Meanwhile, I just can’t stand Herbie.
27) Secret Wars – perhaps it doesn’t work as well if you don’t know the history of Dr. Doom and Marvel not showing his face; but I do know it.
28) Classics Illustrated – love this Headless Horseman cover! I’ve never seen it before.
29) Romantic Adventures for the glamor of white dinner jackets and gowns.
30) Superior Foes of Spider-Man – actually nails the aesthetic it is going for, unlike Earth-2: World’s End which falls short.
31) Captain Marvel – you feel the power jumping off the page here.
32) Ms. Marvel – the Iron Man story within is actually a far superior story (highly recommend to everyone) but you can’t deny that beautiful cover with its clear Romita and Starlin influences.
33) Case Files: Sam & Twitch
34) Trouble With Girls 1990 – though I love the Adventure #300 homage, this other cover has a little something extra, including Hippies and Punks.
35) Aquaman – gotta love those Cardy Aquaman covers. This one is just plain awesome!
36) Daring Adventures – another awesome cover I’ve never seen before. Well composed, great color, awesome 60’s logo.
Posted By: Cobalt Kid Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/25/15 04:21 PM
37) Daredevil – despite the logo cutting off a quarter of the cover, I still like this one better.
38) X-Treme X-Men – don’t like either cover all that much, but this one has better placement of the characters. However, the browns and blacks don’t make it all that pleasing to look at.
39) Superman – really well thought out cover that stands on its own with nods to past covers and continuity.
40) More Fun Comics – is it bad that I want to see this gooball fall off the cliff?
41) My Love – man oh man that cover is sexy
42) Hawkeye – terrific
43) Mr. District Attorney
44) Archie’s Mad House – in one image it nails Ronnie, Archie and the tone of the comic
45) Famous Funnies – negligence was hilarious in the 30’s!
46) Reg’lar Fellers Heroic Comics – super-dynamic cover which beats out the 7 Soldiers
47) Going Steady – really romantic cover filled with atmosphere. I’m about ready to call it a day and go home and see the wife after looking at this cover.
48) Hawkman – my father was just saying the other day how much he loved Murphy Anderson’s Hawkman as a kid, which surprised me as I had never heard him say that before. Looking at Hawkman’s covers you can see why. They’re almost all terrific—very dynamic and very unique to Hawkman.
Posted By: Cobalt Kid Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/25/15 04:46 PM
49) Next Men – the Dark Avengers characters might be more colorful but Byrne sells the cover better with the line work on the snow
50) IZombie – one of the toughest choices yet but I just love, love, love this IZombie cover. Your eye just follows the cover down from the hand to the comic to the image of Ellie and her awesome dress to finally the split image of nice zombie and mean zombie. The Viynl Underground cover though is also quite striking!
51) Katy Keene Pin-Up Parade – both are similar but I’ll go with the ballerina skirt & butterflies over the short shorts and gag.
52) Deadly Class – Inhuman is more colorful and with characters I know, but Deadly Class goes the extra mile with the wolves and bricks falling off, which puts it over the top.
53) Rex the Wonder Dog – again, two really good covers but Rex edges it out with the peril coming from in back of the comic forward to the reader (as opposed to the Big Town cover). But are exciting though.
54) Punch Comics – wonderfully terrifying cover
55) Ultimate X-Men – really don’t like either cover at all but at least this one evokes some emotion
56) Humor Comics – a verbal gag I haven’t heard before and a beautiful red polka-dotted dress on a nice figure. I’ll take it! The guy looks super-goofy though (and a name like Kelly? Bah!). The cover would work better with Cobalt Kid.
57) Forbidden Tales of the Dark Mansion – two awesome horror covers but Dark Mansion is one that just mesmerizes me.
58) Mickey Finn – charming!
59) Mind MGMT – highly detailed cover that conveys the complexity and conspiracy within
60) Archie’s Gals & Pals – I don’t love it, but I think this one works better with Jughead’s yawning gag
Posted By: Cobalt Kid Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/25/15 04:50 PM
61) Heathcliff – for some reason this cover jumps out at me, perhaps because its framed by all the Marvel heroes of 1986 (or whatever year that is).
62) Skeleton Key – a series I’ve never seen before, this is a wonderful cover
63) Forbidden Worlds – very dynamic cover!
64) Flash Comics – Detective is more dynamic with shading and color, but the energy and colorfulness of the Flash’s costume mixed with the WWII setting works for me.
65) Fantastic Four – one of my all-time favorite covers when I was a kid, I would stand in front of it, mesmerized, when it was hanging on my Dad’s display board in the comic book room. My uncle would read it to me over and over, and I always wanted to the Thing to beat the Hulk.
66) She-Hulk – great cover. There’s a lot to like here, but I especially like the eyes and lips.
67) Binky – the gag is good enough to beat out Superboy
68) The Kilroys – the girls all look like they’re 12 or 13, but this reminds me of what my singular goal was when I was 12 or 13. It took a lot of effort to be popular with the ladies and I had to hide my great secret—I liked comic books—for nearly 20 years!
69) Lois Lane – I want to read about Lana Lang, Girl Atlas. I’m talking a 12 issue maxiseries at minimum.
70) 1st Issue Special – terrific cover featuring a Starman who was long forgotten after for 20 years.
71) Crisis on Infinite Earths – another cover that would mesmerize me as a kid. I would stare at it and try to make sure I looked at every single hero. I did that even recently. Also, one of the greatest, most epic endings ever.
72) FF – both covers are great, but I love the FF cast and they’re almost all featured here.
Posted By: Cobalt Kid Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/25/15 05:04 PM
73 Love Life – something about that cover makes it feel like innocent flirting that could happen anywhere. The workplace? The diner? The library? I like it.
74 Tales of the Mysterious Traveler – striking cover that makes me want to enter the world of the unknown, even though I know it isn’t going to go well for me.
75 Swamp Thing – terrific!
76 Daredevil – tells what you need to know about the issue and makes you wonder exactly who Echo is. Actually a really great cover that I probably didn’t give enough credit to at the time.
77 New Mutants – like both covers a lot, but I enjoy a classic superhero cover plugging in Magma and the New Mutants.
78 Crime SuspenStories – unnerving cover that feels like something that could happen so often but never reported. Executed perfectly while the other feels like a cheap knock off (which it was).
79 Scooter – just a lot of whackiness going on that seems like a ton of fun
80 Alpha Flight – classic Byrne cover that has been copied by so many (*cough* Liefeld*)

WOW, my applause to CObie for not only doing them in one sitting but ESPECIALLY for taking the extra time to give a reason why one works better for him than another. Such things make it more fun for the rest of us who also do that. Well, For me anyway. smile

73. My Love Life: Romantic Love. Romantic Animated Eyebrows more like. Keep in to the Hellfire Club. So I'm going with "Sure, I'm a flirt. So what?" "Nothing, while you're glued to that mantelpiece."

74. Unexplored Worlds. I complained when it turned out I'd only win 1 of the prizes and not all 8000 as the cover clearly suggests. Traveller is carrying a huge toirch for someone, so I go with the creepier Unexplored and it's mix of European myths and the land of dreams.

75. Swamp Thing. The "We're walking in footprints" line I so clichéd even Konga is pointing to Swamp Dentistry Monthly as the worthy winner.

76. Daredevil. It's not much of a choice between Lyle's wallpaper trick and synchronised ninjas though.

Posted By: thoth lad Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/25/15 07:19 PM
77. Excalibur. Toughie. New Mutants is more eye catching. The looming buildings also add to the impending doom. But the composition of Excalibur's part 1 of 1000 cross time caper is really good, not to mention the fun with the knight, dragon and maiden.

78. Suspenstories - Don't pretend you're promoting wholesome policeness with that cover Perfect Crime! It gets points for having the boss stand outside splatter range, but loses them again for blatant cover over acting. Suspenstories gets points because that could be your buddy about to shoot you in the back. Clearly a good friend who can't bear to see you in such a horrible outfit.

79. Go-Go - it's an old one but seems to have extra teenage mind rot. Next month: Mourn with Scooter after he and his pals provoked the lion in #12.

80. Alpha Flight: Although the cry of "Buy this issue and we'll kill someone" is a pain, it was a classic cover in a classic run.

Posted By: Eryk Davis Ester Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/25/15 08:07 PM
77. NEW MUTANTS - Pretty sure young EDE owned this issue!
78. CRIME SUSPENSTORIES - just a far better cover!
79. SCOOTER - Because of the parrot, and my plans to revive Scotter once MLLASH inevitably takes over DC Comics!
80. ALPHA FLIGHT - just more appealing overall.

If you're going to try to impress Teeds, there can be no half measures!

And I agree--love seeing why some of these work for people more than others. This was an awesome thread to read through this morning. It's amazing how an image can suddenly hit you and make you feel excited, disgusted, intrigued, etc.

81. MY GREATEST ADVENTURE -- I find myself really intrigued by the story on this one.
82. LOVELORN -- Totally triggers my protective instincts and want to beat up that bastard guy!
83. LASH ET TEEDS -- er... I mean SUGAR AND SPIKE.
84. GREEN HORNET -- I almost went the other way on this, but I'm not digging the fact that the Black Dwarf has his back to the camera.
81. NIGHT FORCE. While the MGA style looks more my speed, look (from your high vantage point) at the power of the silent cover.

82. LOVELORN. Can't deny that cover, but the gal from the other should come post here, she looks like she's got moxie. Then me & Cindy could go get poor ol' Drive-In Trixie to a) get her mind off that parking-lot lothario and b) feed her a fuckin' cheeseburger & malt.

83. SUGAR AND SPIKE! Popeye good too though. Olive Tot!

84. DANGER. GH cleaner, but Danger a little more interesting for the jump-in.
Posted By: thoth lad Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/26/15 06:37 PM
81. Night Force. The colouring in Taking Tiddles for a Walk wins. "I was lost in a mirage," said the airman to the reporter, who also turned out not to exist.

82. Lovelorn. Heck, I'd buy a cover that angsty now. Now quit dripping your tears into my coffee.

83. Sugar and Spike. Although the little hearts coming out of the head are nice, innocent disaster awaits with Shelly.

84. Green Hornet: From the letterer that brought you Mysterious Traveller! It wins for the scaffolding detail. There's not much else going for it. The red head in Danger is right. They don't have to worry about the Black Dwarf. You can see he's caught his jacket cuff in the hatch opening. It was a short return.

81. NIGHT FORCE - that big old monster in the back makes it work so well

82. LOVELORN - captured the emotion so well

83. POPEYE

85. Green Arrow. It's a bit posturing, and I don't fancy Ollie's chances.
86. Kid Eternity. How slow must plastic man have been to be caught by that.
87. Secret Avengers. Not much to pick between them, so I'll go with the more intricate mucus sculpture of Secret A.
88. Hand of Fate. No Challengers these. But Hand of Fate is more picky. "You can be saved, but the other passengers...meh."

85. GREEN ARROW - like the "I'm gonna bash your brains in" pose
86. PLASTIC MAN - nice use of Plas
87. INTO THE VORTEX - a second look made me like the pattern of energy
88. STRANGE MYSTERIES
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/28/15 02:32 AM
85. SHE-HULK is terrific!

86. That KID ETERNITY cover is a simple delight.

87. Nothing simple here. Both are fighting for my attention. I *love* the VORTEX logo but that FINAL ISSUE blurb is ruining things. I don't really wanna give it to SECRET AVENGERS but that blurb-!! SO BAD--!! S.A it is.

88. The giant hand on STRANGE MYSTERIES is a winner!
85. SHE-HULK. Served!

86. KID ETERNITY.

87. SECRET AVENGERS. The twist & curve of the vines.

88. STRANGE MYSTERIES. Too much yap on the other.

89. GA Green Lantern - great poster, shadow villain combo. I'm also bitter that the SA GL statue ended up in the 30th century and got Stone Boy's place in the Subs.

90. Mary Marvel. It's just lovely. Action, adventure, educational and lots of wonder. Elsewhere there will be no riding engines of anything phallic thank you Captain. >tut<

91. Captain Marvel. Forced into a choice here. Captain Clunky has never appealed, but it's all Ecch for Brand Echh.

92. Doc Savage. Who will cure his chronic indigestion?
89. SA GREEN LANTERN - love the green

90. MARY MARVEL - she looks really pretty here and the viewscreens seem more interesting

91. NOT BRAND ECHH - appreciating the attempt at humor here

92. DOC SAVAGE - just a lot more going on here
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/28/15 06:15 PM
89. Golden Age GL has a better logo and features a classic villain!

90. I prefer the fun of the MARY MARVEL cover, she looks so cute.

91. The super drama of CAPTAIN MARVEL wins

92. Oh, A nice painted HAWKMAN cover in the pinup style Marvel went through for years (yawn), but the DOC SAVAGE pinup is explosive. SAVAGE love.

81 Night Force - awesome cover with different sized people & monster, which I love. Color sends it home.

82 Lovelorn - Drive-in drama at its finest! I'm sure there's many a Sonic that should make this required reading.

83 Sugar & Spike - don't really like either cover, and Sugar & Spike never did it for me, but the "high & low" positioning works better.

84 Green Hornet - colorful, dynamic superhero fun that looks like it could be in the 70's or 80's. Meanwhile the Danger cover looks like more like a really great panel in the story within.

85 She-Hulk - Awesome Andy gives Shulkie the win alone, but the rest of the cast is great too!

86 Kid Eternity - I really want to find out the story within, and hope it's as scary as the cover makes it look.

87 Into the Vortex - really only giving this one the win because the Secret Avengers cover just looks terrible to me.

88 Strange Mysteries - A cover I've never seen before, it fits right in with the classic monster covers that I like.

89 SA Green Lantern - love, love, love the GL adventures in 5700 AD, and this is classic, colorful Gil Kane GL cover.

90 Captain Marvel - the penis of Zeus is a little known part of Shazam canon, but here it was in all its glory.

91 Marvel Super Heroes - love this this Gene Colan cover introducing Captain Marvel to the world. It just evokes power.

92 Hawkman - it's all in the shading, as this cover is full of mood and atmospheres
89. GA GREEN LANTERN. Much like with #1, there's an embarrassment of riches. Both are stunning, and damn do I love those flame-y logos. SAGL has the beautiful bright colors, but the softer tones of GAGL stunning in their own way. I'm going with super-vintage over vintage.

90. MARY MARVEL. So cute! And so ahead of the curve -- that looks like Nintendo gear.

91. MARVEL SUPER-HEROES. I don't quite dig the Not Brand Echh style.

92. HAWKMAN.
Posted By: Eryk Davis Ester Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/29/15 12:24 AM
85. SHE-HULK -- Shulkerrific!
86. KID ETERNITY -- Loved them both, but especially this one!
87. INTO THE VORTEX -- Hate them both, but this one far less!
88. HAND OF FATE -- Just because it gives you a better idea for the story!
Posted By: Eryk Davis Ester Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 06/29/15 12:30 AM
89. GA GREEN LANTERN -- Dig them both, but I'll give this one the edge! You've got to know when to hold 'em!
90. WHIZ COMICS -- I kind of dig the Engine of Doom!
91. MARVEL SUPER-HEROES -- Not finding Not Brand Echh funny.
92. HAWKMAN -- This is beautiful, and while I really want to like the Doc Savage, something doesn't quite work with it for me.

96. HOPPY THE MARVEL BUNNY - he looks less silly here

93. My love for Groo has been noted. But beyond that, it's a classic pose and the background is just full of detail.

94. Amethyst Maxi. It's a bit smiley, but 1) doesn't have a unicorn in it. b) isn't trying to find the people from all those other white only covers.

95. Humphrey. Not much going on in this one. Garfield Logan's girlfriend fancies Palooka? Humprey gets it for a JLA cover memory.

96. Animal Funnies. Hoppy has the pun, but funny animals wins for the extra background detail.
93. NTT.

94. AMETHYST (ONGOING). I like a nice white background!

95. HUMPHREY. "...or even a woman!"

96. HOPPY. One funky flip and that BUNNY is gonna have a PANCAKE on his HEAD.

97. House of Secrets. As tragic as being haunted by the 3 Amigos is, I'm going with the Eye in the sky all star homage.

98. Iron man. Not for any reason other than having Bolland as cover artist isn't going to work out as well as putting say Neil Adams on the work.

99. Doll Man. For the cover joke.

100. Our Gang. Jingle Jangle was going to get my vote, but the art on Our Gang is just lovely when enlarged.
97. HOUSE OF MYSTERY. Art choice.

98. IRON MAN. I'm a sucker for candy stripes! And I kind of want to ask what the Dial H guy is doing, but I also kind of don't want to know.

99. DOLL MAN. My, what a thighpalooza in this matchup!

100. OUR GANG. Agree with Thoth.

101. I've seen better spy covers, but it's more than enough to beat the "I hope this caption doesn't give me away" tarzan knock off. Nice perspective on the action though.

102. First Love. "Get out! You silly little girl! Didn't you know he takes part in the drag show here?" Elsewhere, Valerie is too highly strung. He's better off without her.

103. Candy, for the gag, but it's meh compared to the raging emotions of the romance choices.

104. Secret Service! She went down manhole covers and through sewers in those heels (and coordinated coat) All to betray he man she loves! Elsewhere, "We never should've walked down that dark hallway. Not with the cleaning trolley just asking to be tripped over." - only in Health & Safety Monthly!
101. DAREDEVIL. Nick Fury #12 looks like a page from a sketchbook. Kinda cool, but this is no Who Is Scorpio. Gorgeous DD cover brings home the win for Team Representational.

102. WEDDING BELLS. Usage of the word "floozie" is awesome but maybe not the best way to further your cause, Miss Goody-good Pillbox. Wedding Bells art better.

103. CANDY. Patsy looks plastic.

104. KENT BLAKE. Though I really want to vote for the title "Girl Comics"!

105. Zatanna. Even with the silly heels.
106. Amazing Spiderman. Great foreground unmasked,. Any further forward and it would have been 3D.
107. Sensation Comics. Water spouts and big, hard missiles. Subtext anyone? Toughie. Old School dynamic cover vs the whimsy of maidens of venus.
108. Cassaday Cap beats Mad-Miss.
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 07/05/15 12:02 AM
93. TEEN TITANS. Aeragones' style isn't my favorite.

94. AMETHYST MAXI (glares hatefully at other cover)

95. JOE PALOOKA, who is also on the short list of comics characters I might gay marry.

96. FUNNY ANIMALS; Nelly Hoppy be flippin her flapjacks, sistas.

97. HOUSE OF the one where to solve the problem ISN'T DROP THE EFFIN BAIT, GREEDY DUMMY.

98. IRON MAN pride issue

99. Being a leg man, I've always hat a thing for Black Condor and Doll Man. Hmm. I think my thing for Black Condor is bigger this time. CRACK it is!!

100. Aunty Spry seems fun, so JINGLE JANGLE!
105. ZATANNA. Super-sliding...of San Fran!

106. MARVEL TALES. Stunning!

107. WONDER WOMAN. While the Sensation cover looks good, I don't get what's going on. Is another boat using some water canon type thing on WW? She seems too far away for that to work.

110. LSH - the colors make the scene so much better
111. PANIC- the wall of text that is Mad does not work so well in a comic book
112. THE TWELVE - maybe I'm biased. I like green.

109. Batman. So wanted to say "The eyes have it." But the cover just isn't as eye catching (hee) as the Batman one. Although, I'm not sure what a picture of a hand means? A new Bat-villain The Hand? The Ten Eyed Man? Grayson saying "Talk to the hand" to Bruce before huffing off to college? It'll never work Grayson. You'll end up with a gorgeous alien princess...oh....

110. Infinity Inc. The best things about the legion one are the symbols. The figures look posed, with Superboy being a prime example. Look at Fury over on Ordway's cover. Poised to strike, and you really get more physicality from the characters. I shall obviously retract this choice if put on trial by the rest of Legion World.

111. MAD. The toughest pick outside of the romance comics. Panic is great fun, with loads of detail and a some memories of that sort of madness. But MAD is so subversively good, although it can't stop prominently giving itself away.

112. The Spirit. That cityscape behind the couple is excellent. There's a touch of romance even though you know she'll hit him over the head with a brick inside. Stunned that the Twelve actually finished. Weren't there huge delays to that one?
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 07/06/15 12:23 AM
101. DAREDEVIL because Ka-Zar's legs!

102. Floozie vs. SIlly Little Girl FTW! Altjough bitchy ol' Valerie cackling at the other girl's pain is a near-win!

103. That boy's idiocy annoys me when usually the CANDY logo alone can carry the whole cover. PATSY takes it because he's so dumb!

104. Girl comics is tryin gtoo hard, so SECRET SERVICE, Lord forgive me!!!

105. ZATANNA.

106. MARVEL TALES, though both are too blurby.

107. I love both images, but I think the one where the fairy girls are trying to help is a more chick-positive image, so WONDER WOMAN. But really, that Sensation image is very very close.

108. X-STATIX!
Posted By: MLLASH Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 07/06/15 05:11 AM
109. DEXTER'S

110. Poor coloring choice for II, so LSH wins.

111. PANIC

112. THE TWELVE cover is nice.

Not your most exciting round, Trish. Do better!!!
109. LONG HALLOWEEN. Although I don't quite understand it. (I've read LH, but it's been too long.)

110. LSH. I do like a starfield, the symbols at the bottom, and the outline logo.

111. MAD! ...and like that!

112. THE SPIRIT. But not in a walk!

Sentients and space-sentients, a hand for the Twelve covers!

And now I hand next year's Thirteens to indecisive sassmouths Power Boy and MLLASH. Get your triskaidekaphilia on, lads!

93 New Teen Titans – excellent forward momentum towards the reader and you’re instantly asking what the story is with the gun.

94 Amethyst Maxiseries – just an all around beautiful cover with a lot going on.

95 Joe Palooka – always a fan of great forgotten comic strip characters and Joe always had great covers

96 Funny Animals – this rendition of Hoppy is even more silly and funny animal-ish, and that’s how I like him.

97. House of Secrets – coming out a few years after HOM #12, HOS had more of the mid to late 50’s sci-fi aesthetic that works for me.

98. Iron Man – love Brian Bolland, but the Iron Man cover just works for me better, even if I thought the story inside was ‘meh’.

99. Crack Comics – though honestly, I don’t love either cover.

100. Our Gang – for the dynamic action going on and the impending doom

101. Nick Fury, Agent of Shield – perhaps the single hardest choice yet. The Daredevil cover is simply stunning, but there’s no getting around the sheer genius of Steranko’s SHIELD.

102 First Love – now *that* looks like a Bad Girl. I immediately want to know what’s going on inside.

103 Candy – Patsy is my girl, and I actually like her even better as Patsy Walker, America’s Sweetheart, than I do as Hellcat. But the Candy cover just seems to work better here with the other one not really saying or doing all that much.

104 Kent Black of the Secret Service – really cool cover with a scenario I want to read more about, impending doom and great composition split between three parts of the page. It’s notable that the Girl Comics cover is also really great too, though this one I like just a bit better.

105 Zatanna – both are cool covers, but I like Amanda Conner, a bird stealing food and a sunset on a bridge.

106 Amazing Spider-Man – classic Doc Ock cover that was shocking when it came out. Fantastic Ditko composition.

107 Wonder Woman – both have problems, but I like the WW cover better because I believe in the momentum more.

108. Captain America – this fairly crappy Cap story doesn’t deserve that to-die-for cover. Just beautiful: the shading on Cap & the shield, the skyline, the rooftop angles and of course the moon.

Why isn't Joe P an LMB character yet? He's tailor made for us! As you're boyfriend who occasionally gets jealous and punches out the other LMBers...including the straight ones! (Hey, he isn't bright but he's loyal!)
Posted By: Cobalt Kid Re: Titanic Tussle of the Twelves! - 07/07/15 09:29 PM
109. The Long Halloween – minimal cover but used to excellent effect

110 LSH – just one of the best Baxter covers IMO, with perfect usage of Superboy in that point in time.

111 Panic – I appreciate what MAD is doing, but the Panic cover is just so full of crazy shenanigans that I can stare at it for a hours. And in fact, just spent a ton of time doing so. And I *still* probably haven’t noticed all the gags.

112 The Spirit – just drop dead gorgeous Cooke artwork. Stunning, and I would buy it no matter who it starred, what company published it and where I saw it. I want to be the Spirit in that moment. Great color too!

I love these two covers! Really great! (Never seen either before).

The Crimes By Women cover is ripe for fumetti-zation. Perhaps depicting how Teeds met Cobie?

And the first one is ripe for a cover of "Joe Palooka, Lash Lad's Boyfriend"!

SHUT YOUR EDUCATED MOUTH CAROL.

The Plas cover I have never seen, it is always weird for me to see covers from the DC 30 cents era that I don't know because I bought like everything I saw (incl issues of this Plas run). I can only guess this issue never made it to the spinner racks I perused pre-comic shop.

Crime Fighters - DC editorial are arrested after an all night Legion plotting session. Police stool pigeon Lex Luthor of Earth-2 can be seen on the right. Giffen (5 years for crimes against plotting) thinks that the totalitarian police look will be perfect for the Legion's science police.

Challengers - This is Erik Larsen's first comic and has the proto-Savage Dragon prominently featured on the cover.

Space Adventures - Braalian space exploration comes to an early end. With those heels, and the Braalian helmet that makes you deaf to oncoming aliens. Landing on Durla was probably a mistake too. Still, it will give us the RJ Brande is Rokk's father plot later.

Girls Love Stories - Face it Imra, he's gone. Look at that smug smile, even on an interrupted wedding day.

War Romances - Don't worry. Carol will come round to her soldier now running drugs from South East Asia. No fancy talk required, although a second language is useful.
