As crazy as it sounds, they seem to have hired a freaking awesome writing staff.

I'm skeptical, but not entirely dismissive.

Funnily enough, Hasbro's probably going to be best remembered this decade for revitalizing My Little Pony.

Ahhh I think Rom might actually be a good sci-fi horror film

I think My Little Pony would make a great undead movie, in the Romero social satire mould. "Friends...Forever."

I'm kind of hoping it turns out to be so awesome that they decide to reboot Transformers to fit into it!

At this point, Transformers certainly has nowhere to go but up.

"My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" is getting a movie in 2017! I think it will be full of rainbows, magic, and evil Changelings. The show is already in it's sixth season.

I meant to quote thoth lad, but I failed.

That's Ok. I'd not want to have one of my quotes lower the quality of one of my posts either :-)

Micronauts provided some great comics moments for this reader.

M.A.S.K. was a really groovy concept, sort of a mesh of G. I. Joe, Transformers, and super-heroes, but last time I tried re-watching the cartoon, it was pretty much so-so at best. Still, a lot of potential there if done right.

And I totally love Visionaries.

I loved M.A.S.K. It definitely took all the popular kids' show concepts of the mid 80s and smashed them together. As a Legion-fanatic I am kind of predisposed to things with a large, colorful cast and long lists of data pertinent to each character. The show was definitely very formulaic though with the individual episodes of little consequence.

A cinematic treatment would likely have to cut to the chase, but it'd be an option. I would love to see the concept properly serialized and explored in more depth.

Not a fan of M.A.S.K., except for the awesome theme song:

IMO, that show didn't do anything that the shows it derived from didn't already do better.

The original Transformers, on the other hand, I think that was genuinely transcendent.

The original G.I. Joe also had a lot of great character moments. I find the jingoism forgivable, because it was all in a very camp package.

I loved the "Mission: Impossible" type Premise for M.A.S.K. where they picked operatives based on skill set for the upcoming missions, but, also like "Mission: Impossible", the premise was cooler than the execution because they kept finding non-sensical way to keep bringing back the same characters again and again.

Based on childhood recollections (always the most accurate, of course), I didn't get into MASK as much as I got into Visionaries or GI Joe. I wasn't so into the "let's jump in my vehicle and let it do the amazing stuff". Also, the GI Joe guys were cuter IMO

Micronauts comics were so weird and cool to me. The games that artists played with perspective messed with my pre-420 mind. I was never a huge fan boy of it and so didn't spend my hard earned pennies on it.

What studio are they hooking up with. Paramount? There's getting to be too much continuity in these action movie franchises.

Disney has created a juggernaut with a quadruple threat of Marvel/Star Wars/Pixar/Traditional Disney Princess fare covering all the heavy blockbuster/merchandise demographics. Just because Disney is successful with Marvel Studios and will be guaranteed success with the new continuity heavy Star Wars Universe doesn't mean this stuff makes sense for everyone else.

My sense is that GI Joe is hamstrung overseas by being a symbol of American Imperialism and no one cares about any of the other properties.

The only way for this Hasbroverse to be successful is if Transformers is rebooted and made a part of it. They would need to take a Disney style approach and cancel all existing cartoons and print publications and develop future TV series both animated and live action that happen in the universe. This is much more difficult because Disney is vertically and horizontally integrated in across all media platforms.

I assume the idea is that while there wouldn't be much interest in these properties individually, they can generate more interest by linking them together.

Agreed that not including Transformers is an extremely stupid move. Especially as there's already a history of G. I. Joe and Transformers operating in a shared universe.

Did Hasbro have any other popular "girl" franchises besides Jem (ruined for at least a decade due to that awful movie) and My Little Pony?

^^Not really, but Transformers and G.I. Joe always had a substantial amount of female fans, more than the average "boy" franchises.
