Me too, Ibby but first peaches have to come back in season here. Or I could see if there are still any good-quality pears around. They're also delightful poached, but some people find the texture off-putting.

I do find peaches more flavorful than pears, though pears could be lovely too

In the original arcade version of Ms. Pac-Man, eating a pear won you 2000 bonus points.

The opposite of the game going pear shaped.

The opposite of the game going pear shaped. When I read this, I at first thought I was on the forums of the mobile game I play...

Which is the direction I seem to be going. I need to get on the good foot again! They say that you should put your best foot forward, but I'm not comfortable in picking a favourite. Then there was that time when I bought a Jimmy Olsen comic from the guy at the end of the pier, and turned into Centipede Lad...

Which is the direction I seem to be going. I need to get on the good foot again! Hah! But then they tell you that having an "apple shape" is worse for you than having a "pear shape." This is why I avoid those discussions because their main purpose seems to be making everyone feel inadequate and inducing massive headaches which never go away.

Right?
I'm pretty sure that even if I could "willpower" myself back down to a Size 12 thirty years later, my upper midsection would still stick out. Polycystic kidneys enlarge as they go downhill and the cysts therein fill with liquid, which means they weigh more and more as they fail.
Which reminds me: I should be allowed to punch anyone in the [redacted] who gets in my face about the glories of [redacted]-ing Keto. JFC every person is not made the same. No one with bad kidneys should be living on animal proteins. Shut up!!

Well, I was never in my best shape pre-Covid, but the last couple weeks prior to my trip I discovered how much of my business clothes didn't fit anymore after two years, so I just need to do better at a basic level. And it has everything to do with how bad my diet has been lately versus going on a specific fad diet (which I absolutely won't do).
And so all this talk of fruits has starkly reminded me that I need to increase my intake of that and veggies, and reduce pretty much everything else!

Mangoes are nice. I highly recommend them. I buy the smaller (Ataulfo) variety because they ripen quickly, are easy to peel, and make two good-sized servings. So no worries that the leftovers will disappear and decay in back of the fridge.
With sugar as this eon's designated villain, you can get paranoid about eating fruit if you're not careful. Thankfully a reputable site or dietician is happy to remind us that eating a serving of mango is different for the body than eating a candy bar, even if they both have sugar.
The scaremongering really gets on my nerves, and being a nervous wreck when trying to just plan a meal isn't good for anyone's health, either. Sometimes I just want to enjoy something sweet like a "normal" person does. [eyeroll]

Last time I was doing everything right diet and exercise wise- we're talking 10 years ago now - dried Mangoes were a staple. Trader Joe's had lots of dried fruit that were my go-to snacks, and I always ate at least one salad a day.
I've never balked from fresh fruit any time I've been on any diets - yeah there's sugar, but its natural and not processed sugar, the latter of which SHOULD be avoided, like you're saying.

lol I don't live on it, but I still eat it sometimes.
I agree with the HAES principle that if you crave a certain food and distracting yourself with some other activity doesn't help, it's better to have some and be done with the craving for it. The problem with dieters' mentality is that you tell yourself, "Oh no I'll never get to eat this 'Bad' food ever again after today. So I'd better eat a lot of it right now because this is the end! (Woe is me!)" It backfires on people.
Every couple of months I get a craving for Cheetos. I get a single-size bag and enjoy it. Then I don't think about them again for another couple of months.

I completely agree, healthy eating is about moderation, not deprivation I'll third that. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go make myself an especially decadent breakfast (my favorite meal of the day.)

Thinking about climate change and how it's likely to accelerate famine around the world. I think I'm just going to tell everyone, "It's not a beer gut. It's a reserve tank!" from now on.
(I do miss being able to freely drink beer, though. Stupid meds.)
