18/18! you got the list, stile! care to guess the connection?

Veilmist and Firefist are the standouts due to their brief period as legionnaires, but what distinguishes them from Blood Claw and Flederweb?
Chameleon Girl, Night Girl and Rond Vidar are also different.

I cannot think of any connecting adventure, origins, death, or even costume that does not also fit others.

Sorry but I think I need a hint.

I think I know, and if IBBY would like, could provide a hint to what I think it is. I will say that it was Firesfist and Veilmist that tipped me off.

I'm all for you giving hints, idle!

First, EDE's post is also a hint
Second, the connection is a characteristic of the Legionnaires not an adventure.
Thirdly, the connection (once you knw it) is more obvious for eight of our list than the others.

I'm a dunce. I actually thought of couples or relationships but every time I saw Triplicate Girl I thought of Reboot Luornu instead of the original and her long term relationship with Chuck. Duh!

Now to check those excluded.

Hmm. If its just couples then Earth-Man should also be there, not to mention Brainy and Kara amongst so many others.

So it's marriage. At first I wasn't sure about Mon-El until I remembered that Tasmia performed her own ceremony while Lar was unconscious in the life support pod.
Was it ever actually established in 5YL that Rond and Laurel were married? Or just in a long term committed relationship? Can some one point me to the issue?

Anyway that's the connection. These are all the legionnaires who were married - and as it turned out to other legionnaires, even if some of them were only added to the roster later or in other realities (e.g. Night Girl). In fact it has to be those that were married to other legionnaires or Matter-Eater Lad would have to be here with his marriage to Saturn Queen who was never a legionnaire - unless you count that short period with Dynamo Boy.

Was your 1 possible extra Invisible Kid II and Infectious Lass? Was she ever officially a legionnaire and were they ever officially married?

Weren't Thom and Nura married in one of the original Adult Legion stories? I guess we have to restrict to main teams or its gets even more complicated.

Just for the record, my third clue was referring to the fact that four couples were next to each other on Stile's 18/18 list. Also, if we include the Adult legion storries, we have to add Brin and Ayla and Salu (unless it is specifically married to other legionnaires.) I really had no idea until I saw Firefist and Veilmist and thought "what sets those two Khunds apart?". Since it wasn't codenames ending in -ist, married was the only other option.

And I guess, technically, the connection is not confirmed, but congratulations on your exceptional effort on this one Stile.

excellent reasoning, stile! indeed, Legionnaires who were married to other Legionnaires Cos and Lydda are only here, because Lydda eventually became a Legionnaire (when they weren't married, go figure).

Laurel and Rond, I'm struggling to find the precise issue. But several sources I found say it, so I said, ah, let's include them

Jacques and Drura, could not find info that they actually got married, so left them out. Drura WAS officially a Legionnaire during the 5-year gap.

and yes, I skipped the Adult Legion continuities, hence no Ayla/Brin, Nura/Thom. Salu would not be here, as she married Duplicate Boy, who was not a Legionnaire.


and the possible two additions, would be Lana Lang and Pete Ross: both were Honorary Legionnaires, and married each other in some continuities.

Pete and Lana! That was a good thought and one I missed even though it was in the post-crisis Superman titles that they married.

It was a good connection and one that doesn't seem so large at first, but just keeps growing. You start with Chuck and Luornu, then Garth and Imra, as the obvious first married couples. Then a break until Gim and Yera followed by Val and Jeckie, and Mon and Tasmia right at the end of v3. 5YL adds a few more (including the Khund couple) with the final two being Reboot Jo and Tinya. You think it will be a small list but it just balloons.

Oh and I tended to think of Rond and Laurel as married even if I can't remember if it was actually stated in an issue. So does everyone else apparently. Thanks for the links Ibby.

Whew! That took a while. I still enjoyed myself but perhaps we should try to stick to smaller groups for the future. Big groups scare off other participants I think.

Incidentally, before anyone thinks I just have a massive memory, I use Google Sheets to track guesses, confirmations and rejections, much like I would on a board if I were playing Mastermind.

Just kidding. I'm thinking of a group of 8 Legionnaires. For this list, I'm counting honorary/reserve legionnaires. One last hint, some Legionnaires may qualify for this list multiple times, but the eight ignores repetition.

yeah I agree stile, the Legionnaires married to each other list just grew and grew! I thought I had them all, then I thought of another pair, and another...
