These ones I actually like

9 Curly, the framing.
10 Legion A LOT. Just cool, fun vibe with a lot going on without feeling crowded.
11 picking should not be mandatory. Love both of these.
12 Another tough call. I'm going with the Simpson's, it actually brings a story to my head whereas the other just brings an image.

Choosing one per matchup is mandatory!

Nobody said it would be easy.

11 If I REALLY, REAALY, REALLY have to pick, I want to pick The Shadow because it's so artsy but upon magnification and a careful look-see, Suicide Squad has boobs and that's a tie breaker.

9. CURLY KAYOE. It's a good visual package, although that looks like Katy Keene's logo. Joe Palooka's IDEA is better, but takes some work to come across.

10. LSH 31. Sorry, Mod, luv, LOVE wins. (Take notes, Joe Palooka cover.)

11. SUICIDE SQUAD. Don't love it, but it's more visually interesting. (Seen the Eiffel on covers many times.)

12. SIMPSONS. Very fond of 'Mazing Man, and you may have picked up by now that I like a green cover, but gotta go with kinda derpy Snowball.

05. GIANT SUPER-MAN, probably because I just love the image of him holding up the globe.
06. WEB OF SPIDER-MAN, because I think it's more fitting.
07. LOVE EXPERIENCES, as it's more titillating.
08. LITTLE MAX, from the arbitrary reasoning of liking the art style and colors more.
09. CURLY KAYOE, for putting us right in the middle of the action.
10. TEEN TITANS GO, which will probably get me glared at. Love the Legion, but the background is too busy in L31 for me.
11. SUICIDE SQUAD, for having a more interesting concept.
12. 'MAZING MAN, because it makes me happy.

11. Joe Paloooka. Don't mess with flatulence powered mythology!
12. Teen Titans. Wotcha Mod. Keep yer gregorys on, I'm havin' a butchers at yer pukka cover now. No jam tarts there. Chicken Dinner!
13. Shadow. Although the Squad issue was the run's Day in the Life Titans equivalent, the cover is a guy at a desk. The Shadow shows kids that it's important to dress well fro cold weather.
14. 'Mazing Man. More malevolent (therefore realistic) cat expression.

13. ALL-STAR COMICS -- Like 'em both, but the A-SC is just iconic.
14. UNCLE SAM -- Whatever happened to Buddy?
15. MOON GIRL FIGHTS CRIME -- Yeah, all the text stuff on the other one is just annoying. Plus, Moon Girl is hot.
16. GREEN LANTERN -- Not sure why Alan is using his ring on Doiby, though!

13. LEADING COMICS. All-Star has its pulp-ish aura that's a fact. But LEADING is right. Whimsical concept! BEAUTIFUL coloring! From tip to top, this is the whole package.

14. WOW COMICS. I like Uncle Sam beating feet, but the 3 Wow guys standing tall & walking resolutely etc. is also impressive. Wow wins, in part because of the background colors and lack of confusing geographical signage. (Quasars?)

15. MOON GIRL FIGHTS CRIME! The light beam is like a moon, and she's Moon Girl, see!! Military is interesting idea that doesn't quite gel -- I wonder if it would work better with other incidental colors and different content in the white column.

16. GREEN LANTERN. Holy recursive cover, Batman! Yes, it's cute, and probably hadn't been done a hundred times yet. But Alan using his ring so Doiby can read their scrapbook? Aww. Plus donut dunking! Another fine coloring mix too.

13. All-Star. Who's the Dummy? Why it's the company with the terrible Wing stereotype.

14. Wow. The Wow guys look as though they will kick serious butt. Uncle Sam looks as though he's spending the war abducting children across the world.

15. Moon Girl. Ah, the ever genre shifting Moon Girl. Fighting crime, romance and had they kept going probably Under a Western Moon and Moon Girl and the Moonies. The split in the Blackhawk cover is distracting.

16. Batman. Be not ye fooled by their winning smiles! Stare ye not into the infinite recursion of this cover! Lantern's electricity saving scheme is commendable but not enough to win.

13. LEADING COMICS is UTTERLY TERRIFIC. I love heroes in giant hourglasses as much as heroes in tubes!!! The ASC cover is atmospheric, classic. I can't choose. TIE!

14. UNCLE SAM!!!!!!!!!

15. That MOON GIRL cover may be the best thing EVER.

16. BATMAN infinity cover FTW.

Kidding about the tie. I'm giving it to Leading because the stances in the crystal ball are so ordinary and not exciting.

13. All-Star Comics- This cover has kind of a back-light effect which draws your attention to the crystal ball. It is wonderfully suspenseful, and I think this is one of those covers that begs to be homaged.

14. Wow Comics- This catches my eye better than the other comic book. It seems to be taking itself seriously, which is fitting for such a serious time in the world.

15. Moon Girl Fights Crime- Another wonderful example of the use of lighting in art. The flashlight makes everything seem more suspenseful than if it were just a normal background. I also feel that the Blackhawk cover is too cluttered.

16. Batman- This is a famous cover, and rightly so. It's the image often chosen for "Best Batman Comic Books of the 1950s".

13. LEADING COMICS - falling in the hourglass is so much more dynamic

14. UNCLE SAM QUARTERLY - also more dynamic

15. MOON GIRL FIGHTS CRIME - same!

16. Green Lantern - Batman's and Robin's smiles are creepy

17. Hawkeye - the monochromatic background works well here

18. Space Adventures - gigantic guy in cool mask is more menacing

19. JIMMY WAKELY - more dynamic

20. WEIRD FANTASY - the huddling couples make me want to read the story more and see what happens to them

17. B&V. There would definitely have been a time (all of the time) when it would have been the stylistic Hawkeye that would completely win this. But the relentless jockeying for Archie's affections and the usual fashion fun make it a win for B&V.

18. SHIELD. 'Oi beach bum! Oor Wullie wants his bucket back! Beach, rock, sky composition gets the win.

19. Alan Ladd. "Here comes Ladd in a brand new role...corpse. Final Issue Spectacular!" Still, that strict duchess who's willing to stand in the line of fire beats Jimmy and his shadow animals issue.

20. Weird Fantasy. Cripes. Not much to choose between these two. I'm going with fantasy as the art is slightly better, even though I just prefer the critters on the other one.

17. Hawkeye cover is fun, but's gotta be B&V for the win!

18. Space Adventures gives it all away on the first date, but SHIELD? SHIELD is a (beep)-tease. A dirty little (beep). A filthy (beep)-loving (beep)-(beeper). This cover is a slut and it knows it. It can't help taking the drugs on a Saturday night. It can't help being a slut on a Saturday night! I'd buy the issue based on the cover. And then I'd (beep) it.

19. JIMMY WAKELY better get his stiletto-boots in gear and get ready to run so he'll survive long enough to gay marry me!

20. Many of my WEIRD FANTASIES involve hot straight couples trapped in tubes, trembling, fearful, half-nude... so that one.

13. All Star Comics - I can't resist a cover with the Spectre on it.
14. Uncle Same Quarterly - that cover is too goofy to not vote for
15. Moon Girl Fights Crime - the yellow flashlight against the backdrop is a nice contrast
16. Batman - early meta comics at its finest tongue
17. Betty and Veronica Comics - I love the artwork in old-school Archie comics
18. Space Adventures - beautifully rendered by Jim Aparo
19. Jimmy Wakely - the imposing shadows make me want to find out what happens next
20. Weird Science - choosing between the two was REALLY hard, but I have to go with the one that invokes the best image of what pulp sci-fi had to offer

Mom: Why yes li'l Timmy. You may have comics. You can have one new one... or three from the second hand box.

Timmy races to the second hand box of mystery and the unknown. His hand reaches for Lash's copy of SHIELD #8... Read more in this month's Weird Lifelong Trauma #8!

17. HAWKEYE -- The B&V cover just doesn't do much for me, and isn't helped by the fact that so much of it is taken up by the logo. Stylish and cool wins out this time!
18. SPACE ADVENTURES -- Love the outfit on that giant alien!
19. ALAN LADD -- Love how cool Alan looks in the face of danger! No doubt he is saved by the Grand Duchess's loins!
20. WEIRD FANTASY -- They are both awesome, but the captured and entubulated human couples fascinate me more than the humans landing on those no doubt peaceful tentacle creatures' homeworld!

17. HAWKEYE, even though it makes me feel like I need to go shop at a Target.
18. NICK FURY, there is just something 50s/60s Sci-Fi Movie Poster appropriate about it.
19. JIMMY WAKELY, rocking that interesting vantage point.
20. WEIRD FANTASY, because you're going to stare at these crazy aliens and you're going to like it.

17. I love this matchup even though it's driving me crazy. Two rather different uses of color (and small doses of patterns) that I like. Hawkeye's got the smoking gun, but Betty's got flaming pedal pushers so B&V.

18. SPACE ADVENTURES. Although the logo is a drag. Over on Shield, the way the bottom of the cape displays against the rocks makes it look like bad photoshop.

19. ALAN LADD. But knock off the smoking, Alan Ladd. The Grand Duchess is smokin' enough for the cover. She's also fearless with her color choices.

20. WEIRD FANTASY. After the humans were all goggling and pointing in the Weird Science, I hope the Pastariffic People are pranking 'em a bit. (In about 10 minutes or so they can explain how the elevator tubes work. Until then: Candid Space-Camera!)

21. X-MEN. Well, I'm not a boy, Eunice!

22. THE ATOM. JLA kinda boring visually. Standing around.

23. RACKET SQUAD. Both quite good. Spent a lot of time considering. It came down to the money!

24. SPEED COMICS is a little more interesting to my eyes. And if I ever get around to that "Weird Butts of the Golden Age" thread I keep threatening to start, here's more material.

21. X-Men: The toughest thing here is coming up with a superlative for Teeds brilliant match up. Leaving aside the dubious "smart gals don't find love" message of the romance cover, it doesn't have that classic look. Over on X-Men, Warren is down with the kids by planking on top of the logo!

22. JLA: I'm loving the fun they had getting the Atom into danger on the covers. But who sold the JLA? Why? Would they become unpaid slaves? Do they have a union? Endless questions and a hint of jealousy from the others as Mr Popular Flash gets sold first.

23. Adventure into Mystery. Now having seen a cover of Racket Squad I feel silly telling the shop owner that I didn't like sports comics when he offered them to me. Where are the robbers putting that cash? No bag? No clue, more like. Who hasn't felt that tingle of danger as the tube train approaches?

24. Speed. There's something wrong with Flash's helmet as he races to save that chair from the fire, and the boring opium addict slouched on it. Not that Speed is much better, with its corset wearing hero. Still knights v superheroes probably appealed to the 5yr olds buying it.
