Welcome Alex!

There's a lot to enjoy in this forum and the gang here are terrific. I sometimes still feel a new kid even though I have been here for a few years but that never made a difference to how I was treated and I am sure you will find the same acceptance.

I posted a reply to your post in the Help for Legion Newcomer forum but I think your approach to v3 and then v4 will work great.

One other thread series you might find interesting is the "Re-Reading the Legion Archives" threads. This is currently working through the mid-late v4 Legion series and I have enjoyed participating in them over the years. (The volume 29 part of the current thread refers back to a series from some years ago reprinting all the Legion stories from the beginning in a series called the Legion Archives. We would read the equivalent of one or two issues per week and comment on them. When the Archive series stopped publication we just carried on creating our own virtual archives.) They are of course full of spoilers so you will only want to look after you have read the issue being discussed. I think you want for the Great Darkness Saga is volume 18. Probably have to go down a few pages to find it.

(Found it on page 5.http://www.legionworld.net/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=932085&page=5 Scroll down until you get to LSH #290)

Anyway welcome and have fun!

Welcome! We love discussion of pretty much any era of the Legion around here, so feel free to chime in with anything you want to contribute!

Hi everyone! I used to lurk around here years ago, between the last days of the DnA era and the early Threeboot, but I just joined.

A few months ago I started comicsarcheology.com where, among other things, I'm reviewing the Silver Age Legion in chronological order (more or less); I'm currently in what I call the pre-history of the Legion, before they had their own book. The Legion Wiki was a big help in navigating this messy period, and discovering this forum was still around I decided to join.

I have a complicated history with the Legion. The first thing I ever read was the Great Darkness Saga when I was a kid, which I absolutely adored, but there was no way to read anything else involving the Legion: I'm Italian and before the Internet it was nearly impossible to find other Legion books in Italy, translated or not.
That saga, which was published with a few of pages summarizing major points of Silver Age stories, gave me a glimpse of a vast comic book universe... which I wouldn't be able to read for many years.
I managed to read bits and pieces of the 5YL era and it was utterly inaccessible to me, both for the story and the art. I know it has a following and I'm a fan of Keith Giffen for his other works, but to this day that era completely baffles me.
Zero Hour happens, I read the origin story of the new Legion, I fall in love again with the universe... and there's nothing else in Italian for me to read.
Fast forward to the 2000s and the Internet (and Italian publishing shenanigans I won't get into). Now I have read every Legion book from the Silver Age to the Threeboot and loved the vast majority of every incarnation (I still can't understand 5YL).
I haven't been able to get into the latest Legion (I've heard it called "retroboot Legion", is that the accepted term ?). And now the idea of having Bendis handling it makes me hesitate to start again: I'm a Marvel fan first and a DC fan second, and I haven't had the best experience with Bendis writing Marvel characters.

Looking forward to hanging around Legion fans. I haven't registered to a forum for at least fifteen years so you'll have to excuse me if I occasionally mess something up :-)

Favorite Legionnaires: 1) Brainiac 5, every incarnation but especially post-Zero Hour 2) Wildfire, 3) Shikari (yes I'm probably the only guy that prefers her over Dawnstar)
Favorite Legion enemies: 1) Time Trapper 2) Validus 3) Progenitor
Favorite era: 1) 80s Levitz 2) DnA post-Legion Lost 3) 70s Levitz

And if anyone's interested, comicsarcheology.com is also doing a chronological retrospective of Doctor Doom as well as reviews of the Silver Age Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen books :-)

Welcome to Legion World!

I, too, am a Marvel fan first and a DC fan second. And I, too, am mystified by the Legion 5YL era. I've given it a lot of "second chances," but I finally felt I had to give up.

I'm curious why you prefer DnA Post-LL? I feel the opposite way.

I'm totally interested in your website's retrospective of Dr. Doom, one of my favorite villains! I will definitely check it out. Thanks!

I prefer the post-Legion Lost because I felt like it had more possibilities to expand the universe. I like their previous work as well, but it felt a little too constrained at times.

Plus I really, really liked the whole Ra's al Ghul / Computo saga... which they basically recycled at Marvel, changing Ra's with the High Evolutionary and Computo with Ultron (I don't remember the name of the saga, it was one of the follow-ups to Annihilation).

Welcome! Thanks for your good work with the comicsarcheology.com website. Your journey in reading all those Legion books is amazing, and I can relate, I yearned to complete my post-Zero Hour Legion collection for so long before finally getting them all.

You are definitely not the only one who prefers Shikari to Dawnstar, there are quite a few of us who started with the post Zero Hour Legion smile

Post-Zero Hour Brainy is also my favorite of the Brainys wink especially after DNA developed him. nice mix of arrogance and heart there.

will definitely be checking your website out!

Great to have you at Legion World Comics_Archeology!

I had the briefest of peeks at your site, and it looks like great fun. I'll take a longer look very soon. We have Re-Read Archives threads, where we review Legion comics of yesteryear. That Post Boot Legion you like, isn't that far away from being started.

Longtime Legion Fan! Primarily original and Retroboot. I have been collecting all I can but am having some troubles with some of the more obscure 60?s issues with the legion. Does anyone know if some of the more obscure stuff like Superman 149, 152,155,156,157 and the Action Comics appearances as well as the Worlds Finest with Composite Superman and legion (142, 168 and later 283) are collected at all? Or am I stuck with finding the original issues?

Also what is the best site to find a list of all apprearances?

Legion of Super-heroes Completist On ComicVine is great.
http://www.thelegionofsuper-heroes.com/ Is excellent

Any others I am missing out on?

You might check out the The Legion Publication History from the Legion Wiki affiliated with this very site.

As far as collections, I believe all of those issues you mention have appeared in various Superman or World's Finest Archives, Showcases, Omnibuses, etc., over the years, but yeah, it's kind of tough having to track them down.

And welcome to Legion World!

Welcome to the LW community, Stubby.

For the early issues, I recommend the black & white "phone book" format Showcase Presents Legion of Super-Heroes Volumes 1 and 2. That's the format I have them in, but you might prefer the stories with color.

Welcome Stubby. There is a great crowd that hang out here and I hope you have a good time.

Thanks for the links. I wasn't aware of all of them. I personally rely on the Legion wiki as EDE linked to above, often maintained by members of this board.

As for where to find reprints, one option is to use the Grand Comic Database which, while trying to list every comic ever, also lists the reprints on each issue's page. For example here is the link to Superman #149 which lists several reprint volumes. (Note that the first three listed near the top are for reprints of the cover. Look further down the page for reprints of the story.) The GCD is a wiki style site maintained by fan volunteers so double-check any information you find before buying books but it could help guide you in the right direction. Collecting those early stories even in reprint volumes isn't going to be easy. Good luck!

Hi, I'm Kat! I'm 27, located in the US, and I used to stalk these forums about 11-12 years ago when I was in high school (and sporadically since then), but I never worked up the courage to join until Sarcasm Kid talked me into it.

I've read through every 'completed' Legion continuity at least twice, but the original Pre-Crisis/Retroboot Legion and the Post-Zero Hour Legion are definitely my favorites. As my favorite fictional character of all time, Supergirl wins favorite Legionnaire by default, but I also love Brainy, XS, and Dream Girl. I count some of the more minor characters, like Rond Vidar and Chemical King, among my favorite characters as well.

I'm not quite sure what else to say, but I'm excited to be here!
