This is the official thread to discuss the February 2009 election of the LMB Leader (and Deputy Leader).

See the Official Rules, Announcements and Info Thread for details.

Use this thread to make general comments about the election or various candidates.

Also, candidates should declare they are running in this thread.

Yeah, even from the slammer, I'm running.

Thank you Tyrant.

I'm in.

I guess this is the best place to discuss this. What does everyone think? It seemed like most people were in favor of the idea to mix things up.

Anyone who remains silent on the issue, obviously does not get a say [Big Grin]

I can only compete if it's as Lard Lad's running mate. That was my original promise. Breaking it now would only further fuel the rampant cynicism that swirls throughout our political landscape these days. I can't have that on my conscience.

Posted by Yellow Kid on :

I'd like to see teams too. We've been lucky that the people selected usually get along pretty well with each other but we could very easily have an administration at odds with each other with any election.

I mean, just because I have yet to name a running mate that doesn't keep me from stating a preference here.

I may be working against myself but I really like the Lard Lad/cleome idea. Long time player plus a new member and we get the benefits of someone well versed in how we do things coupled with the energy and newly discovered affection and silliness that goes with being a newcomer.

Bah, there is only one team worth considering.

Gary Carter and Frio... Hang your hat on this. After the election Frio and I will rule the LMBP!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Hm, I guess YK needs a running mate then (or did I miss one).

Thus far, it would look like candiates (officially) are:

- Lard Lad & Cleome
- Gary Concord & Frio
- Yellow Kid & ________

Were any others making it seem like they would run in the other thread. I believe Helena Handbasket and Everyday Girl was another potential pair.

Personally, I like the idea of 'pairs' running. We need something to mix this election up. And anyone objecting has a full week to do so (in other words, people not posting on the MMB--we don't care what you think [Big Grin] )

Gary Carter??? [Big Grin]

Hm, you're more like me than I thought, Ultra jerk.

Well, there was this woman from Alask...naw...wait, I know this guy from New Mexico. I did like the beard. Hmmmm no that won't work.
I wonder what Krypto's up to.

Posted by Kent Shakespeare on :

I am of course if favor of the running-mate plan.

YK, how about Pov for a running mate?

Posted by Yellow Kid on :

Truth is, I was thinking about asking Poverty Lad earlier today. We both joined the LMBP at the same time, we're equal in seniority and we've interacted quite well with each other since the now infamous Legionnaires board implosion and the Phineas Bogg board takeover.
Our first white out. It was thrilling (in it's own way)
I didn't even mind the hushed up incident where he acquired the Sonic Boom power..but of course I didn't stay at the hotel so it didn't affect me like it did some of the others.

That's a nice idea Kent and it probably doesn't hurt that I know Pov's "secret" which is ok 'cause he knows the location of "the picture" so it all evens out.

Posted by LardLad on :

The only drawbacks to using running mates is that only one ticket will be rewarded in the outcome, and of course, we'll never know who came in second place as full results are kept confidential. I'm okay with these things, but the consequences should be noted.

My Fellow Legion Worlders,

Sorry for taking so long. Other matters have arisen, but I am free now.

I hereby declare my candidacy for Leader. My running mate is Everyday Girl.

I have proven leadership ability. Ask anyone that has served under me in the Dark Circle.

What is this?

<sees campaign posters>

The imposter is running for LMB Leader?!?!

I must stop him!!!!

I have no problem with running mates, so long as we abide by the old rule of not allowing multiple IDs. For instance, I wouldn't be able to run with Maxx the Sorcerer as my running mate, since they are both my IDs. I like the fact that two different people get to play Leader and Deputy.

I agree absolutely, that's a must. No poster can be leader and deputy at the same time. Or be leader twice in a row--that rule stands.

that makes complete sense.

[Big Grin] :
We thought about that and decided there should only ever be one of the PCG that's available to run for office.

I'm too busy designing a new line of costumes for this coming fall anyway. I'm not about to turn my clientele loose in my establishment without adequate safeguards. pshsh- those guys would steal the tables if they weren't bolted to the floors.

Posted by Yellow Kid on :

Yeah, I like that. Two different people. We all get busy and can't play for a while and if that poster is playing both characters the whole game gets a little out of whack.

Posted by Tomahawk on :

So when does the nomination period end, and the voting begin? And how long is the voting?

Posted by cleome on :

I'm reasonably sure that I'm only one person here. :/

Posted by Yellow Kid on :

Well, being a newcomer here you might not be aware of the tradition of multiple accounts (referred to as "alts"). Primarily the alternate Ids are only used in the role play LMBP forums and aren't for much else although sometimes their creators like them so much they become their main accounts after a little while. I really do make an effort to speak in a different "voice" when posting as one of my other characters but they're all me.

Does that help?

Posted by cleome on :

[takes down notes]

Hmmm... Is it okay if I don't fall in love with anyone then ? I don't like complications, except when clearly labeled/boxed up as fic.

[Confused]

Posted by Everyday Girl on :

Ohmygod! So it's like okay that I'm Miss Helena Handbasket's Running Mate!

This is so Kewl!

Now like Gramps told me that traditionally the Running Mate's job during the campaign is to attack the primary candidate's opponents.

I like that idea!

I'm gonna start with that creepy Gary Concord... <Click-Click>

Yellow Kid, you should draft yourself a running mate! (Not me)

Just remember, Pov never wears pants.

I love how you used "draft" and "Pov never wears pants"... it feels like perfect bookends [Big Grin]

Am I the only one who sees the inherent logistical problems with running and mating at the same time?

Or am I just too provincial?

[Styx]

Posted by Spellbinder on :

You'd be amazed by the variety of things Cobie and I have managed to accomplish while mating...

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

How else do you think the first few elections were run? [Big Grin]

Posted by SharkLad on :

Which reminds me ... I think we should have random drug testing for all candidates ...

<splash>

Posted by Triple G on :

Random drugs?
I'm out of practice, you guys will probably score a LOT higher on a test. Do you plan to grade on a curve?

Posted by cleome on :

Sorry. I'm completely whizz-depleted after having applied to every temp agency within a 45K-mile radius in the last year. Just offer one of them five bucks for a copy of the results, if you really wanna'.

I was rather hoping that Lardy would be running on the legalize-it-all-let-god-sort-it-out platform, myself. But he'll have to clarify that in his own postings. Of course, I will abide by his decisions regarding the platform, regardless of personal beliefs.

Posted by Yellow Kid on :

I hope that's not a test for caffeine. I'm an addict and I LOVE it, I refuse rehab! Legalize Coffee!!

So..back to business.

I've had a chat with a number of potential candidates for Deputy but the rule for not using alts has been a stumbling block in negotiations. Interestingly there's not a single one of them who were willing to reveal their secret identities in a Senate hearing. Go figure.

The cries of "Draft Pov!" rang loud and clear across the breadth and depth of Legion World. The rising clamor from the rank-and-file members of the Legion have been heard and their wishes are known to all of us. Therefore, recognizing the love and the needs of the canon fodder our dear friends and fellow heroes, Poverty Lad has agreed to join me in the quest for absolute power believable leadership cruel domination defensible priorities and wealth beyond my wildest dreams responsible government.

Pov is a well known and is probably the second most beloved poster in all of Legion World. His years of dedication and snark have lightened out hearts and opened our inner giggle many times over his years of service and stalwart membership.

I await only his officially accepting of the nomination. I'm eternally grateful that a man of Poverty Lad's fortitude and lack of pants has agreed to join with me at this time.

Thank you Pov
and
Long Live the Legion!

Hmmm. Somehow I don't see a pantsless candidate as being all that radical an idea for a board teeming with superheroes.

BTW, I don't go pantsless and the only things "Brazilian" that interest me are feijoada and acoustic-based bossa nova. So let's hope all the talk in the air about "celebrating diversity" doesn't turn out to be just more hollow posturing. Hmph.

Hey, it works for Doc Manhattan.

Hey! now, just because he's blue, and blue is a primary color, that doesn't make him yours.

So, do we know who all is running yet?

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Lard Lad with running mate cleome
Gary Concord (aka Gary Carter) with running mate Frio
Helena Handbasket with running mate Everyday Girl
Yellow Kid with tentative running mate Pov

Posted by Spellbinder on :

I don't know why, but I think that "The LMBP is going to Helena Handbasket" is amusing [Smile]
