Awesome! I finally have a spare few minutes to share with all of you how my weekend went! First, let me just say that the entire experience was magical!!! If you ever get the chance to get married, I highly recommend it!

Well, the weekend began Friday morning when Lee and I got up and went to pick up my friend Josh from a Barnes and Noble in Birmingham. Little bit of a backstory there... Josh is from Memphis, but he had gone to Atlanta with friends that week to audition for American Idol (he didn't get in or even get to see Simon.) After that, they came to Birmingham (after hitting the gay bars in Atlanta) and dropped Josh off with us. It was funny, because he just looked so pitiful! They had been sleeping in their car during the American Idol stuff, which had started on Monday! Anyways, we got Josh and went to Crepes Etc. to eat. After that, we went to Old Navy to pick up our outfits for the ceremony (which were VERY simple. Matching button-down long sleeve white shirts and khakis. Dress for the guests was outdoor casual.) After that, we went back to the house and loaded up all the wine and musical equipment, and then we drove to the bakery and picked up the cake, which was FABULOUS! A lot of it is still in our fridge, too... Anyway, after we picked up the cake, Lee, Josh, and I drove to Lee's dad's house about an hour away, which is where the ceremony was.

The rest of Friday, we CLEANED and set up all the sound and music equipment. I also had a little project where I had to program "Seasons of Love" from "Rent" into my electric piano to play itself at the ceremony so my friend Jeremy could sing it. We talked into the evening with Lee's dad and his girlfriend. Finally, we went to bed, and Lee and I held each other in anticipation of the next day for like 2 hours before we could finally drift off into sleep.

The next morning, Lee's mother came in, and we spent the morning decorating and running errands. There was also a bit of a scare, because we couldn't get intouch with Jeremy (who was singing,) but I finally made the decision to cut him and ask my other singing friends from Memphis, Amber, Ruth Ellen, and the before-mentioned Josh, to sing the song. Good thing, too, cause Jeremy never showed.

Anyways, people started getting in. There was a little bit of a scare when we found out that Lee's sister Lindy and her family were in a car crash and couldn't make it. Fortunately, no one was hurt.My friends from Memphis made it in and started practicing the song. More of Lee's friends and family arrived. Conspicuously absent were my freinds from Birmingham, but that was actually no surprise to me, as they were all going to another wedding earlier in the day. Little did I know that they would all show up at the party later bombed out of their minds.

The ceremony was BEAUTIFUL. We performed it ourselves, getting choked up now and again, but making it through it. By the time it was over, there wasn't a dry eye in Lee's dad's yard. The song we chose for the wedding was Bernadette Peters singing Billy Joel's "She's got a way..." gender-reversed to "He's got a way."

Then came the party, and the barbecue!!! We opened our gifts and cut the cake... we fed each other cake, but didn't smash it. [Smile] Then my Birmingham friends staggered in, all drunk as they could be. I was a bit offended, especially when three of the girls started arguing loudly among themselves. I asked Allan, the only coherent person in the group, to get them out of there. He agreed with me and came up with an excuse to get them on their way. He's a good friend.

THEN came the singing. Every time I see Lee's grandmother, I have to sing. It's become a tradition in our family. [Smile] So I sang a couple of requests, including a special one for Lee. After that, Josh and Ruth Ellen sang as well. It was really neat and special!!!

Amber got very drunk and had to be taken back to the hotel room. One of the nost amazing things of the day happened when Lee and I went back upstairs to the guest room to change clothes. Before we did, we realized that we had missed dancing to the song we had picked for the "dance." It was "The Luckiest," by Ben Folds. Realizing this, Lee grabbed me and started dancing with me, while singing the song a cappella. I joined in, and we had our dance privately in the guest room, singing the words to our song ourselves. It was insanely romantic.

We soon retired to our hotel room and then shared a bottle of wine with Josh and ruth Ellen before saying our goodnights. And then... well, this is the point in the story where the camera would fade in to the fireplace blazing... so let's just leave it at that. [Smile] [Love] [Smile] I'll just say that it blazed brightly.

LATE the next morning, we got up and went back over to Lee's dad's, where we had brunch with he and his girlfriend. Then we packed up all our gifts and other stuffs and headed home! I LOVE Lee's family. They are very percious to me, as they really have adopted me into their lives very much like a second son. At times, the love they have shown me can be quite overwhelming.

And that's the story of my perfect gay (call it a pun) wedding day. [Smile] I love Lee very much and can't wait for him to be home tomorrow night (he had to fly to Minneapolis on business.)

It's so terrific to "hear" you describe your wedding day, KP. Congrats again.

I'm not sure I would have handled myself so well with the curves thrown your way.

of by the way, as I asked in another thread...

WHERE'S THE CAKE?

I like how one of the planned special things became even more special when it didn't go as planned.

Congratulations, Mr. Married!

Wow, what a fantastic-sounding weekend. I'm so glad everything went relatively smoothly and what didn't didn't make a difference. You sound truly blessed to be part of that family.

Jeff, I'm glad everything went as well as it did and you didn't let any of the little glitches get you down. Thanks for sharing and thanks for hanging around here while Lee is out of town. I still remember what its like, 11 and a half years later, to be separated from your love after getting married. Caroline and I lived in two different states for the first week of our marriage before I told my casino job to shove it. But we are here for you if you need us.
