The press release for Diggle's two-year exclusive deal also mentioned other upcoming DC Universe projects. Diggle enjoys the shroud around these other upcoming works, "I'm sworn to secrecy for the moment... but I guess I can say that I'm currently researching various DCU science-fiction characters. I think there's a lot of fun to be had if I can just drag one or two of them kicking and screaming into the 21st century."
Of course, I immediately thought of the Legion, but I guess it could be some other character(s).

Sounds to me like he's updating some older characters rather than taking any Legionnaires back in time (that was my take on it).

Adam Strange, Captain Comet, Tommy Tomorrow, Space Ranger (no, the other one), lesser knowns like Kris KL-99....DC has a lot of sci-fi oriented heroes. Could be interesting.

Warren Ellis recently requested info on his BAD SIGNAL: "During the 50s, 60s and 70s, DC Comics published a bunch of sf comics. Characters like Star Hawkins, Tommy Tomorrow, Space Cabbie and all that. Help me help out a friend. Find me websites that list them all, with details if possible."
