1. Captain America vs. Cyclops = Captain America
2. Giant Man vs. Danger (Cyborg formally known as the danger room) = Giant Man I first had this as all Danger but ... maybe Hank Pym could come up with something with enough time.
3. Dr. Strange vs. Magik = Dr. Strange Magik may be able to teleport him to a place where she rules supreme but ... he's Dr. Strange ... with or without the Sorcerer Supreme title ... he specializes in going to other dimensions and kicking it's rulers butts!

5. Spider Man vs. Ice Man = Spidey He's Spider Man. Sorry Bobby. Super powerful as you are.
6. Iron Fist vs. Gambit = Iron Fist Iron Fist is one of the people that can actually dodge Gambit's cards and hit Gambit, and when he does he's gonna put him through a wall.

Set
There's not a word yet, for old friends who've just met.
posted
1. Captain America vs. Cyclops Tough one! Captain America can stop Cyclop's optic blasts cold, but Cyclops can re-aim as fast as his eyes can track, and is smart enough to aim at the ground, or nearby destructible terrain, if he's having trouble connecting. On the other hand, if Cap can get into hand to hand range, Cyke is toast. I'll give this one to Captain America, only because he's far more likely to pull out a win against dire odds.
2. Giant Man vs. Danger (Cyborg formally known as the danger room)
Giant-Man. Danger is not a patch on Ultron's shiny metallic bum. 'Mad killer robots' are practically Pyms favored enemy...
3. Dr. Strange vs. Magik
I love me some Ilyanna, but even a washed up ex-Sorcerer Supreme is out of her league. Demons will be summoned, and sent packing. Portals will be opened, and slammed shut. Ilyanna will go all Darkchylde, and Dr. Strange will turn her own darkness against her.
4. Iron Man vs. Emma Frost Tony's not Batman. If he gets the drop on Emma, he can keep her in diamond form, and unable to reach him or telepathically attack him, by just pouring on the firepower, so that she can't risk turning back to provocatively displayed flesh. But nobody gets the drop on a telepath. Emma wins, and Tony gets the mother of all flashbacks to his wastrel alcoholic days.
5. Spider Man vs. Ice Man A match between two kinda/sorta friends who don't really have their hearts in it. Peter will hold back a little too much, and bring an olive branch to a knife-fight. Dodging (and / or punching his way out of) a literal ton of ice will force a rapidly frostbitten Spider-Man to stop holding back and to unleash his full strength on Iceman's icy body, rending him unconscious, and leaving Peter in no condition to continue fighting, making it a pyrrhic victory.
6. Iron Fist vs. Gambit I like Iron Fist many times more than Gambit, but super-human agility, and an effective ranged attack, give Gambit a leg up in this match. Gambit can stay away from the brutal Iron Fist of Danny Rand, and barrage him with explosive projectiles, against which Danny has little defensive recourse, other than trying to dodge a frustrating man who is superhumanly fast and accurate, and only has to hit *near* him to catch him in an explosive blast...
7. Thing vs. Namor Imperious Rex! It's Clobberin' Time! Two men who never give up, head to head, each having stood against foes like the Hulk, and accounted themselves well. A fight like this comes down to writer's fiat, and writers go for Grimm, 9 times out of 10. The Sub-Mariner is gonna be sleepin' with the fishes!
8. Daredevil vs. Beast Matt is no match for the superhuman agility and strength (and toughness) of Dr. McCoy. (Who *is* a fighter, as well as a doctor, Jim!) Even if Daredevil can lure the Beast into a situation where his excellent night vision is nullified, and Daredevil's radar sense gives him an advantage, the Beast *also* has keen hearing *and* a sense of smell not terribly worse than Wolverines. The only reason that this fight won't be over in moments, is because Hank is more of a talker than a fighter, and will hold back, while Murdock is far more practical, and will try for a nerve strike or similar tactic, only to find out that the Beast is, in fact, a Beast and does not sucker-punch easy...
9. Spider Woman vs. Psylocke If Psylocke is telepathic this week, she has a chance, but Spider-Woman has mobility, speed, strength, toughness and ranged firepower on her side, which will allow her to more easily overcome a telekinetic Betsy. If Betsy's a telepath, she wins. If she's a telekinetic, she loses.
10. Black Widow vs. Frenzy (super strong former villain) Frenzy is brutally strong and tough. It would be a miracle for Natasha to even be able to hurt her (although she can't miss the bruiser, who doesn't bother to dodge, ever). But this isn't 'Tasha's first day on the job. Or first decade, even. Frenzy is overconfident, and tends to take on challenges headfirst, and will be frustrated by the Black Widow's avoidance of close combat, aggravating her with widow's stings from out of reach, and luring her into a building that Frenzy will smash to bring Natasha down to her level, only to find out that the lovely spy has rigged the ground beneath her with explosives, so that Frenzy, the street beneath her, and the building above her, plunge into the subways, leaving Frenzy pinned beneath tons of wreckage, cursing her temper.
11. Mocking bird vs. Domino Some epic snarky banter ends with a 'lucky shot' from Domino, who was meeting her match in hand to hand with the nimble staff-fighter. Domino only wins by 'chance,' but that's her thing.
12. Luke Cage vs. Magma Magma's got all sorts of power that 'Power Man' can't match, but she's also a bit too self-assured at times. Tremors will keep him off his feet while she wraps him up in molten magma, causing it to instantly solidify into rock ('cause she doesn't want to fry him, just contain him!). Unfortunately, she'll stand a little too close, and when he breaks free, chunks of volcanic rock fly in all directions at great speed, one of them knocking her for a loop. Luke Cage wins, by dint of being more popular, for the most part.
13. Hawkeye vs. Sunspot Sunspot's original powers of super-strength would have left him ill-suited to handle the Marvel Universe's most colorful archer, but having learned to channel his power to fly, and produce destructive bolts of energy, he'll attempt to seize the high ground, only to discover that Hawkeye's got arrows for every occasion, including concealing smoke arrows (making him bloody hard to shoot), and various disorienting sonic and gas and strobe arrows that bring Sunspot to the ground, where a boxing glove arrow to the face ignobly ends this match.
14. Sharon Carter vs. Danielle Moonstar Sharon is *not* a fan of the 'let's talk this out, I don't really want to fight you' school of thought, and brought a rifle to this knifefight. Dani is no easy target, and a potentially deadly game of keep away begins, with the two women hunting each other. Sharon makes the mistake of going on the aggressive, after wounding Dani in their first encounter, and overconfidently allows herself to be lured into a trap set by Dani, blowing the crap out of a bit of rubble wearing Dani's jacket, only to get blindsided by the ex-mutant.
15. Red Hulk vs. Juggernaut Colossus The confrontation between the Thing and Namor registers on the Richter scale, but even their earth-shattering grudge-match can't compare to the devastation that will be unleashed if these two go head to head. The Red Hulk has had a good run of being 'the strongest there is,' but the Crimson Bands of Cytorrak have always been Dr. Strange's go-to spell for keeping the Hulk under control, and their power now gives Piotr the edge he needs to turn the dials up to 11, and bring the Red Hulk down.
16. Black Panther vs. Kitty Pryde Kitty is untouchable, until T'Challa demonstrates that he's more than a dude in a cat-suit, and uses vibranium to cause her molecules to temporarily slide back into phase, and places the young ex-ninja in a headlock until she passes out.
17. Thor vs. Magneto Another earth-shaking match up, as the powers of the unified field theory come up against divine mysticism. Magneto finds that even his unsurpassed power is, at the end of the day, still only mortal power, as Thor uses the power of the Odin-force through Mjolnir to drain the Master of Magnetism dry.
18. Scarlet Witch vs. Storm Two of Marvel's most powerful mutant femmes (not named Grey), both with powerful offense, and glass jaws! The Scarlet Witch's hex bolts are unpredicatble, but she's ultimately unwilling to use them with the sort of ruthlessness she'd need to win this fight (by giving Ororo a stroke or something), resulting in her being unable to even target the weather witch, soaring above her and pelting her with freezing winds, hail and impenetable fog. Battered and bruised, Wanda falls.
19. Protector/Nor Vahr (Marvel Boy) vs. Rachel Grey Rachel has amazing telepathic and telekinetic potential, and yet Noh Var is famous for pulling new powers out of his butt at times like this. He proves to be surprisingly resistant to telepathy, momentarily trapping her with a reactive psychic defense that causes her to become lost in his mind, and before Rachel can adjust to this startling turn of events, he's able to knock her out with a toxic kiss.
20. Ms. Marvel vs. Rogue The grudge match to end all grudge matches! Rogue regrets this encounter, and holds back, until Carol's dogged persistence and barely-concealed contempt raises Rogue's on ire, and it is on! Rogue switches from power to power, at first seeming overmatch Carol, but Carol Does. Not. Give. Up! Bloodied, but unbowed, her determination shakes Rogue's confidence, and before she can switch powers to adapt, Carol lays her out with an uppercut.
21. She Hulk vs. Polaris Polaris makes the mistake of thinking that she can just fly over this fight and rain debris down on the Jade Giantess, but the She-Hulk is no stranger to that tactic, and returns Polaris' metallic missiles with many times their force, overwhelming the emerald-tressed mutant's magnetic defenses and driving her from the sky.
22. Nova vs. Cable Looking down at the musclebound cyborg lying unconscious before him, Richard Ryder nudges him with a boot, and wonders aloud, "Who is this hyperthyroid freakshow, and why did he shoot a gun at me?"
23. Falcon vs. Havok At first, the Falcon hopes to stay out of sight, and harass the cosmic-powered mutant with birds summoned from all over the city, but he's overcoming with psychic shock as hundreds of birds are instantly charred by the aura of power that radiates from Alex Summers in all directions. There is no escape, and as the Falcon is staggered by the shared sensations of his many avian surrogates, Havok fires a precise beam of plasma that damages his anti-gravity thrusters, causing him to drop to the ground with enough force to stun him.
24. Vision vs. Warlock The Vision's datafiles provide warning of the dangers of the transmode virus, and he remains intangible, attempting to stun the Technarch prince long enough to be able to use his signature phasing attack to disrupt his mechanical inner workings. Alas, while Warlock is pained terribly by the solar heat of the Vision's eyebeams, the Vision does not phase fast enough, and his assault succeeds in rendering Warlock insensate, at the cost of infecting himself with the transmode virus!
Technically, the Vision won, but he's about to become a far bigger threat...
25. Hercules vs. Wolverine "Little man, with your little knives. I applaud thee!" "No, really, I clap for you." Each clap produces a shockwave that hurls Logan/Steve/James/whatever he thinks his name was *this* week back hundreds of years, arse over teakettle. Hercules laughs and boasts, as he keeps clapping his hands and stomping his feet, keeping Wolverine from being able to stand upright, or avoid being thrown back by shockwave after shockwave. Long minutes pass, and Wolverine is aware of the smell of the ocean behind him, as the insufferable demigod says, "With yon metal bones, I wonder, canst thou swim???"

I'm not very familiar with Marvel characters so my votes may not jibe with others. I just couldn't pass up another Tourney competition.
---
1. Captain America vs. Cyclops
Captain America seems more tactical so him.
2. Giant Man vs. Danger (Cyborg formally known as the danger room)
If Giant Man is anything like Colossal Boy, he gets punked every chance the writer gets - so this writer will give him the win.
3. Dr. Strange vs. Magik
Age and wisdom seem like a superior advantage in the world of magic so Dr. Strange.
4. Iron Man vs. Emma Frost
Iron Man seems more powerful than Emma Frost to me so him.
5. Spider Man vs. Ice Man
Spider Man can't shoot any webs when he's encased in ice so Ice Man.
6. Iron Fist vs. Gambit
I think Iron Fist is a better fighter than Gambit so him.
7. Thing vs. Namor
Can Thing drown? If so, I'll give this to Namor.
8. Daredevil vs. Beast
This one seems fairly even. I think Beast will edge out the win.
9. Spider Woman vs. Psylocke
If she can shield her mind(?) from whatever Psylocke does Spider Woman could win this one.
10. Black Widow vs. Frenzy (super strong former villain)
Strength is a useless power against someone who's smart enough to counteract it so Black Widow.
11. Mocking bird vs. Domino
Mockingbird refuses to die again so her.
12. Luke Cage vs. Magma
Does Luke Cage have powers? I think Magma might win this one.
13. Hawkeye vs. Sunspot
As much as I love archers, sun/heat powers seem like they'd beat arrows. So Sunspot.
14. Sharon Carter vs. Danielle Moonstar
No idea so... Danielle Moonstar.
15. Red Hulk vs. Juggernaut Colossus
The whole deal with the Juggernaut is he's unstoppable right? And now he's combined with Colossus? That seems like a pretty winning combination. Him.
16. Black Panther vs. Kitty Pryde
I hate intangible characters in tourneys because, while they're so theoretically unbeatable (see how well Tinya and Kono did in the Legion one), writers find a way to incapicate them all the time in the comics. So do we also contrive a way to stop them in this fight or just let them win all the time until they come up against a psychic or something? I'd love to do the former and call this one for Black Panther but I think Kitty Pryde might still have the greater edge here so I'll give it to her.
17. Thor vs. Magneto
Thor seems like he could withstand a magnetic assault so him.
18. Scarlet Witch vs. Storm
I love weather-manipulation as a power but I think magic trumps it so Scarlet Witch.
19. Protector/Nor Vahr (Marvel Boy) vs. Rachel Grey
Gosh. No idea. ... Rachel Grey.
20. Ms. Marvel vs. Rogue
Assuming Rogue can absorb the powers of the right characters she could win this one.
21. She Hulk vs. Polaris
Unlike the Thor/Magneto fight, I think magnetism would win this one - so Polaris.
22. Nova vs. Cable
I think Nova is more powerful isn't he? Him.
23. Falcon vs. Havok
Havok seems more powerful/versatile here too. Him.
24. Vision vs. Warlock
Warlock I think.
25. Hercules vs. Wolverine
A god seems more powerful than the most over-exposed character in comics so Hercules.

What's interesting is Set and IB picked Emma over Tony, while Peebs and I picked Tony. This is because we've been reading (and laughing at) the mini and know Tony created a way to shut down her telepathy.

Some upsets and some curious landslides ... and some surprisingly even results ... and some not in accordance with Marvel's current event picks!
my guess is the Avengers are either uber powerful or street level and the X-Men are more across the board averagely powerful.
(much closer than I thought ... I assumed it would be about 5 unbeatable Avengers versus 20 X-Men)
ROUND ONE :
Avengers = 12 X-Men = 13
I'll need a bit to set up round two .. and add an Avenger but I think I'll add a few more characters .. pm me if you want anyone added.
Northstar, Quicksilver, Sentry, Star Fox, Captain Marvel 2, Tigra, Cannonball, Banshee, Legion, Sunfire, Wonder Man, and many more have all been absent so far.
I'll probably just do about three rounds and call IT for whatever team is in the lead though.

some calvary showed up to make more of a mess. I hope this battle is happening in a densely populated area like Manhattan.
1. Captain America vs. Namor 2. Giant Man vs. the Beast 3. Dr. Strange vs. Psylocke 4. Iron Man vs. Polaris 5. Iron Fist vs. Kitty Pryde 6. Black Widow vs. Dani Moonstar 7. Hawkeye vs. Havok 8. Thor vs. Juggernaut Colossus 9. Ms. Marvel vs. Storm 10. Vision vs. Sunfire 11. Hercules vs. Cable 12. the Wasp vs. M (supergirl type w/out superspeed) 13. Quicksilver vs. Northstar 14. Tigra vs. Domino 15. the Sentry vs. Jean Grey the Phoenix! 16. Sersi vs. Magma 17. Spider Man vs. Banshee 18. Wonder Man vs. Legion ( TK, telepathy, pyrokinesis) 19. Black Knight vs. Nightcrawler 20. Firestar vs. Cannonball 21. Quasar vs. Rachel Grey 22. Crystal vs. Madrox the Multiple Man

Surely this is a 4 part story line somewhere. I think Cap's never say die attitude pulls this one out, and Namor dosn't have the strategy to compete IMO ... and Cap is just strong enough to keep up with Namor until his plan falls into place.
Captain America
2. Giant Man vs. the Beast
tough one, giant size vs. beast strength and agility, both super smart, but I think the Beast finally snaps and disembowels Hank before Hank can shrink the Beast down to tiny size with Pym particles.
Beast.
3. Dr. Strange vs. Psylocke
I think Psylocke can use her telepathy to stay one step ahead of his combat spells, and when she has him on the ropes and is beating his face in ... Dr. Strange's plan B kicks in .. and his meager telepathic skills were enough to hide his pre prepared "teleport Psylocke to Hell" spell.
Dr. Strange
4. Iron Man vs. Polaris
Polaris. Unlike her dad she won't waste time trying to use the universal forces of the cosmos to beat Iron Man, nor use her powers on Iron Man's armor, I think Polaris will just harpoon him with sharp metal.
5. Iron Fist vs. Kitty Pryde
This one's tough. I don't think ninja Kitty can take out Iron Fist in a fight and while she's a brilliant scientist ... somehow I think the Fists going to be able to use some zen shit to come up with something to trick her and nerve pinch her when she's solid.
Sorry hot stuff. Iron Fist it is.
6. Black Widow vs. Dani Moonstar
wow. I love Dani but without her powers I can't see Natasha not winning this one.
Black Widow.
7. Hawkeye vs. Havok
Hawkeye. If he can avoid getting fried, or a building blasted down on him. he should be able to hit his mark with a well placed arrow. failing that there's always smoke arrows and a game of cat and mouse which Hawkeye would win.
8. Thor vs. Juggernaut Colossus
Thor can just teleport him away if it gets too tough. This seems like a bad guy right up Thor's alley.
9. Ms. Marvel vs. Storm
Ms. Marvel is invulnerable enough to make it to Storm and land a punch. Storm's only chance is being sneaky but Ms. Marvel is still not likely to be frozen and can absorb the energy of lightning. A hurricane and throwing a few buildings at her could slow her down but I think Ms. Marvel could get one in before she suffers too much.
Ms. Marvel
10. Vision vs. Sunfire
The heat makes the Vision suffer even in and out of intangibility but a super dense punch to the face takes out Shiro. and why has Shiro never been shown to be more than just a flaming guy ?
11. Hercules vs. Cable
Cable's telepathy and tk can't do much against an enraged Herc ... unless Cable unleashes his techno organic virus ... still ... Herc smashes him to bits. "I hate modern technology!!!"
12. the Wasp vs. M (supergirl type w/out superspeed)
M is far more powerful but ... this is the Wasp. In my book she has her Spider Man and Batman moments.
the Wasp.
13. Quicksilver vs. Northstar Northstar. Quicksilver had never been shown to be very clever with his powers. and Northstar is a vicious opponent.
14. Tigra vs. Domino
Tigra's wild ferocity almost negates Dominos luck. I still think Domino though.
15. the Sentry vs. Jean Grey the Phoenix! the Phoenix goes one on one with the Sentry ... and then decides to just transmute his molecules to ash ... then the Void comes out and it looks like the tables have turned ... and Phoenix just gets more pissed and eats the planet. including the Sentry/Void.
Phoenix.
16. Sersi vs. Magma
At first Sersi is looking pretty bad but then she remembers she can a) teleport b) has telepathy c) can take the heat long enough to punch Magma across the street. Sersi.
17. Spider Man vs. Banshee
Spider Man. Banshee seems like a villain he would fight. Besides Banshee's not that agile when he flies ... and the skycrapers are Spidey's home.
18. Wonder Man vs. Legion ( TK, telepathy, pyrokinesis)
Legion gives it a good go, decimating several city blocks to take out Wonder Man but Wonder Man is just too strong ... and Legion is not the bravest combatant. It ends with Legion crying as Wonder Man is beating on his protective telekinetic force bubble.
19. Black Knight vs. Nightcrawler Nightcrawler. 'cause Nightcrawler can swordfight too.
20. Firestar vs. Cannonball
Cannonball. I think.
21. Quasar vs. Rachel Grey
Rachel Grey. I've never been a fan of Quasar despite his cool powers. I think Rachel's got a few more tricks up her sleeve.
22. Crystal vs. Madrox the Multiple Man
Crystal ... I think if she can just stay away from him long enough to figure out how to freeze him, burn him, or imprison him with earth without using too much force to make him duplicate ... she'll be fine. But knowing these two they may just end up making out.
WOW. This round was bad for the X-Men ...
Avengers = 14 X-Men = 8

I think location is key to any Namor fight. If it's in the water, he's obviously a sure thing. And Captain America reminds me a bit of Batman in that there are much more powerful characters out there, but people are usually inclined to give them the win because hey - he's Captain America/Batman, he always wins! I'm gonna say Namor to buck the trend.
2. Giant Man vs. the Beast
Size seems like it would beat agility so Giant Man.
3. Dr. Strange vs. Psylocke
I think the magic master would beat this ethnically troublesome character, so - Dr Strange.
4. Iron Man vs. Polaris
Magnet-masters should always win when there's a lot of metal around so - Polaris.
5. Iron Fist vs. Kitty Pryde
Kitty Pryde seems like she would have to become solid eventually to win and Iron Fist's magic fist should probably be able to take her out when she does (if it can't already affect incorporeal people). Iron Fist.
6. Black Widow vs. Dani Moonstar
I'm not quite sure what Moonstar can do. But I'll say Black Widow because she seems more ruthless.
7. Hawkeye vs. Havok
Hawkeye was lucky to survive the last round but he's met his match in Havok. The X-Man with the cool costume/headgear.
8. Thor vs. Juggernaut Colossus
A tough one. I'll say Juggernaut Colossus because it seems like a pretty unbeatable combination of characters.
9. Ms. Marvel vs. Storm
Storm I think.
10. Vision vs. Sunfire
Sunfire will fry the robot's circuits.
11. Hercules vs. Cable
Gods are more powerful than most mortals. Hercules.
12. the Wasp vs. M (supergirl type w/out superspeed)
Shrinking Violet's been known to defeat Supergirl-types before so I assume Wasp can too. Her.
13. Quicksilver vs. Northstar
Northstar's here. He's queer. Get used to it. And he wins this fight.
14. Tigra vs. Domino
I have no idea what Domino can do... but it's probably more than a cat-woman. Domino.
15. the Sentry vs. Jean Grey the Phoenix!
Superman-type vs. intergalactic force. I'll say Jean Grey because the Phoenix seems too strong for any one character to defeat.
16. Sersi vs. Magma
Is Sersi a psychic type? I'll say she can beat the fire/lava (?) dealer.
17. Spider Man vs. Banshee
Spider Man's never seemed that powerful a character to me. I thought his whole appeal was that he's meant to be this average sort of guy/hero who makes do with what he's got. That's why he works so well as the star in his own stories but not so well in team books when he's out-classed by nearly everyone. Banshee should blow him away here.
18. Wonder Man vs. Legion ( TK, telepathy, pyrokinesis)
Legion's powers seem like they'd give him the edge here.
19. Black Knight vs. Nightcrawler
Black Knight's design makes him one of my favourite Marvel characters that I've never read one page featuring... but I think Nightcrawler might win this one.
20. Firestar vs. Cannonball
Firestar I think.
21. Quasar vs. Rachel Grey
Quasar sounds powerful. Him.
22. Crystal vs. Madrox the Multiple Man
I've always loved that thing in Crystal's hair. I'd love to see it help her win here but I have no idea what else she can do. And a multiple man seems pretty unstoppable (look at how well Duplicate Damsel did in the Legion tournament!) so I'll say Madrox.

I hope you are having as much fun doing this tournament as I am reading your picks!
"14. Tigra vs. Domino
I have no idea what Domino can do... but it's probably more than a cat-woman. Domino."
Domino is lucky btw. and Crystal is an elemental with control over all four elements. but I think her best weapon is the as yet unexplained hair thingy. who knows ... maybe if she uses it there's a risk of a space time cataclysm.
Dani Moonstar used to have illusion powers .. and then she got the psylocke treatment and ... had an energy blast bow ...
she is currently depowered YET a valkyrie (an asgardian grim reaper type) ... it is unclear wether she has an extra powers due to being a valkyrie (the other valkyries have the asgardian (thor) extra strength, lifespan, etc.) ... besides seeing when people are gonna die.
so i am under the impression she's just a bad ass who can see when people are about to die.
OH and the ethnically troublesome Psylocke is also more and more ethically troublesome ... and recently lost her ability to feel 'sorrow' ... whatever that means.
