Vincent Schiavelli, a great character actor best know as the ghost in the subway who teaches Patrick Swayze's new spirit a few things in "Ghost", passed away this weekend from lung cancer at the age of 57 at his home in Sicily.
He had a long, varied career, ranging from teen dopers movies (Fast Times at Ridgemont High), to comic book type movies (The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai and Batman Returns) to more critically acclaimed movies like Amadeus and Ghost.

So sad. Way too young to die. Schiavelli was one of my all-time favorite actors. It was always a delight to see him on screen. I may have to pull out Buckaroo Banzai tonight in his honor.
"Nice day, eh?"

Don't know if anyone would find this interesting or not but Schiavelli's character in Fast Times, Mr. Vargas, was married to Lana Clarkson. Clarkson was the actress found shot to death at the home of Phil Spector in 2003.

I remember him in so many things. He was also the guy who killed Teri Hatcher in TOMORROW NEVER DIES, then said to Pierce Brosnan, "It was not personal! It was only business!" 007 replied, "Same here." BLAM!
His character, more than many, seemed as if he came straight out of an Ian Fleming novel-- even though he was an original for that movie.

I remember him most vividly as the priest who officiated at the wedding of Latka and Simka on Taxi.

He was also in an episode of NIGHT COURT as a guyu spying for another judge, trying to get dirt on Harry for a disbarment hearing! (Luckily, the judge presiding over the hearing was played by Ray Walston-- who was flakier than Harry-- and should have become a recurring character, if you ask me!)

I remember him as the teacher in the movie "Better Off Dead." He was such a scream in that movie! "Lane, I was thinking of asking Beth out..." Bwahahahaha!

Wasn't Mr. Schiavelli also in a first season episode of ST:TNG? He played a holo-image caretaker of some war-like planet which had some pretty cool defenses...
