I love the Bee Gees, and I was heartbroken when Maurice died a decade ago. Now I'm heartbroken again.

Listening to Odessa right now. Late 60s pop doesn't get much better.

I am so saddened by this news. I mean, we all knew it was coming sooner than later...but man.

Always have loved the Bee Gees, even through all the bizarre looks I have gotten over the years when I am not afraid to state that fact.

As much as I love their 60s work, I think the level of craftsmanship to their work was amazingly consistent across the decades. There's a great book about them that was published about a year before Maurice's passing, where the authors theorized that their innovative harmonies and melodies actually benefitted from their lack of formal musical education.

Totally agree Fanfie. People forget that they did so much more than one album for a movie...and they did it all great.

And the best part was, they did it with no pretentions to being anything other than the best pop musicians they could be.

I also agree that the level of craftsmanship was very consistent. The brothers' harmony was unmatched. Here is a clip of the first Bee Gees song I ever remember hearing. A great example of that harmony.

Children of the World

Not to mention the beautiful lyrics. Another classic, "How Deep Is Your Love", has been touching my heart and making me a little weepy when I hear it recently.

Rest well, Mr. Gibb.

Thanks for mentioning "How Deep Is Your Love," Jerry. That's a favorite of mine, too.

Sad and shocked.

Barry Gibb has now lost three brothers. I can't imagine the depth of his grief.

I'm usually one who doesn't comment on popular music topics because I don't know a lot of it, but I love the Bee Gees, especially their earlier stuff. Robin in particular had such a sweet voice. That wonderful tenor vibrato--just the kind we choral singers have beaten out of us--was so charming on him.

He's singing with Maurice and Andy now.

RIP.
