Maximize your enjoyment of Trash Lass, Girl Garbage Collector: The Series with this handy guide! Updates will follow as needed.

June 2008 Edition

The lingo

OMEGA: "Omega" is the term used for any individual with abilities beyond mortal ken. "So-and-so is an omega" would imply that so-and-so has some sort of superhuman powers. The term was apparently first applied to these individuals by scientists shortly after the autopsy of what is believed to be the first "Omega" in Memphis, Tennessee, the elderly, evil woman known as Junebug.

One quote from the interview that followed Junebug's autopsy: "If we are the alpha, then a... a creature like this is the omega... the... the END, plain and simple. Be afraid."

The Heroes

TRASH LASS

real name: Brenda Fleer

powers: Trash Lass has thus far shown no omega-attributes, although she is without doubt a highly skilled athelete and fighter, as well as an inventor.

parents: Marty and Myrtle Fleer, millionaire CEOs of FLEER FINANCIAL.

THE SAVAGE SHE-HE

real name: Bernard 'Bobo' Jones

That is... the single most beautiful picture I have EVER seen....!!! I ain't playin'.

I don't think I've ever seen any of my characters drawn by a real artist before... by anyone other than me actually... and so, so perfectly.

Truly, I am blown away. Exquisite.

Hey, er, Dean... Image comics had a full-page editorial detailing how they're always looking for submissions, for preferably something a little off the beaten path (which I think TLGGC qualifies as)... and they said submissions with an artist already attached are always fast-tracked...

So if you EVER wanna sketch out a page or 2 from TLGGC, I'll type a synopsis out and mail it in for us.

If nothing else than we get rejected, we could have the fun of showing off our rejection letter from the company co-founded by Rob Liefeld... [Smile] Well, you should really think about it...

Meanwhile, any more TL art you've got, I would LOVE to see...!

Aw Lash, I'm glad you like it. It's obviously a Sketch Lad sketchy sketch. I've read issue # 1 and still need to read #2. Such fun!

Hey, it'd be fun to break into the actual real comic industry! Now, let me just pencil that into my schedj....

This is a "before" picture of Josie Pickles. I was thinking it might be interesting if Josie never becomes all glamorous when she gets the Big Siren powers. Imagine all those men and lesbians willing to do anything for this rather plain looking woman...

Henpecker
Quite fun to draw!

This one actually creeped me out while I was coloring it...Pustule!

Edit.... I removed the "trash bag fashion" picture of TL. It just wasn't right.

Dean, for some reason the Josie Pickles, Henpecker & Pustule pictures aren't showing for me yet! Aarrrgh! Dyin' to see 'em.

As of issue 3, Big Siren is still bloodied and disheveled from her meteor-smacked origin... maybe she'll never find the time to get glamorous...

Trash Lass' trash bags costume does show up... tres sexy! I'm thinking it's an early version of her superhero outfit... TL could be like back in the day when Batman would don different versions of his outfit for different missions... TL could still wear this one for sexier missions... I'm thinking it would be a perfect cover image for issue 4, the all-origins issue!

Imageshack can be wonky sometimes. The images didn't show up on my work computer earlier, either. They should be there now, though.

I don't really think of that last picture of TL as being a costume. Maybe just more like something she made when she and Bobo were listening to Blondie or Gwen Stefani or something.

OH. MY. FREAKIN'. GAWD!

Josie was PERFECT.

Henpecker was HILARIOUS.

Pustule was SCARY.

Dean I *love* them! THANK you!

I finished issue 3 today and plan to begin and finish issue 4 this week!

BWAhhaha! Henpecker cracks me up... thanks Dean! And the above image of Brenda seems to convey her PERFECTLY: sweet and fun...

I'm currently sketching sequentials, in no particular order at this time.

Here's the page where Pickles gets hit by the meteorite.

More next week! -

I have to admit that it's pretty dang fun drawing pictures of Josie Pickles.

This is wonderful! You guys could give Ambush Bug a run for his money - and Trash Lass is a lot better looking.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Heh! Thanks Cramey!

Dean, per your request on the fandango thread, I have some TRASH LASS stuff I'd like to post...

This was my first Josie Pickles pic, done a while back. After I saw yours, I of course fell in love with yours. But I thought I'd share:

Now here's Bobo and Brenda at work... Bobo's skullcap is butch but they're also widely used by drag queens under wigs... it works both ways so I thought it was kind-of cool...

SHOOT... I have a cute pic of Catfish, Josie and Greg Pegues but forgot to send it to myself. Therefore, it will be coming soon...

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I actually used to work with a woman who has become my inspiration for Josie Pickles. She was rather a nerd and looked terrible, but underneath it all, she had a pretty face. I LOVE your picture of Josie in that BAAAAA-AAA-AA-AD sweater! However, those glasses and bun are actually too cute!

I haven't read any of the Homies stuff yet, so I'm looking forward to that. The women particularly intrigue me.

Yes, I need to see your version of Catfish and Greg Peg (!).

So much fun!

From the Commercial Appeal, August 1996

THE HOMIES: Groupie Edition!

Now you'll know as much as we do!

HOMEBOY

This blonde-haired, brown-eyed dreamboat is smarter than your principal and cuter than your boyfriend! He's the guy who turns IQ into I-CUTE!

Credited with rounding up his posse after he sailed through high-school at age 13 but wasn't quite ready for college life, Homeboy is no doubt the richest teenager in Memphis. His patents have fetched him millions with which he and his Homies use in their fight to make Memphis a better, brighter place!

DOUBLEDARE

Homeboy's best friend and just as much a cutie-patootie, Doubledare gives you TWO hotties for the price of one! Double your pleasure, indeed! The rumour mill says that Doubledare is one of those "omegas" you've been hearing about... someone born with weird powers beyond mortal ken! AND mortal Barbie!

Those rumours suggest that Doubledare was actually supposed to be twins. Well, you know what we here at the Groupie say about the rumour mill: It's TRUE, it's DAMN true!

THE SNATCH

There's no doubt this one is an "omega"... many eyewitnesses have viewed The Snatch's ability to make the Homies appear in a magical flash of light. She's reportedly on a first-name basis with the cops down at 201 (that's 201 Poplar-- the jailhouse to the more innocent of our readers!), where she has "flashed in" several times with the unconscious criminals the Homies have apprehended!

One drawback: she can't "flash in (or out) without traveling with her 'victim'. Another drawback: she's reaLLLLY pretty. And those glowing eyes seem to light up whenever she's around Homeboy. Don't fall for her, Homeboy! Sure, she may give the story that she calls herself the Snatch because of her "grab and go" specialty powers, but we here at the Groupie think she's just trying to be provocative!

Posted by MLLASH on :

FREAKSMASHER

He's super-freaky! The fun-loving member of the Homies who is funnier than the class clown, he's also the muscle of the team!

His "omega"-ability to change his shape usually involves making himself look like a weirdly-proportioned mack truck on steroids, but we here at the Groupie can't help but wonder if he could just as easily change his shape to look like our favorite movie stars. Wow... the mind reels...

GOODBAD GIRL

Sure, the pink hair is a bit strange and clashes with the red she's so fond of wearing, but GoodBad girl can be forgiven since she's the youngest member of the Homies.

She's pretty much an engima as no one has ever seen her actually DO anything, but our old pals at the rumour mill suggest she has an invisible "omega" ability. They say she can mentally "switch" a person's primary character. In easy-to-read terms: If you're primarily a bad guy, she can make you a GOOD guy... at least long enough for one of the others to konk you on the head and citizens-arrest you. One thing that isn't such as enigma: her obvious adoration of Doubledare. It's evident in every photo of the team I've ever seen!

There you have it! Now you know as much as we do!

The Homies Villain Fact-File (1996)

JUNEBUG

This ancient, female fiend was long-believed to be vampiric in origin, but in light of the "omega" phenomenon, it is now believed that she might be the very first recorded "omega".

Junebug has certainly aged over the decades, though very slowly. Physically she currently appears to be a woman of about 60 to 70 years old, but photographs of her as an adult of about 35-40 date back to the beginnings of the technology.

She is confirmed to have terrific strength, speed, endurance and agility as well as an extended lifespan.

Most fearsome is her apparently cannibalistic nature. Her victims have always been found in various half-eaten states, which fueled the vampire theory.

Capturing this menace should be a prime directive for the Homies. She should also have accumulated possibly hundreds of years worth of wealth, which can be written off as another 'patent' making a fortune for us.

I am *LOVING IT*, Dean!

Here's the pic of Catfish, Josie and Greg Peg I did awhile back... Catfish's cap is supposed to be UofMemphis blue and gray...

An image of Junebug, who appears in the first origin sequence of TL GGC # 4...

 -

Posted by MLLASH on :

I started writing Trash Lass # 4 earlier this week, it's an origins issue... 11 pages in, and some of the scenes have really stuck in my head... there's some really twisted $h!+ that happened to make these characters who they are now...

Anyway, 2 scenes I wanted to try to draw out myself.... this first one isn't good at all and I didn't have room to feature Freaksmasher fighting Junebug in the background...

Panel 1 from TRASH LASS # 4 page 3

 -

The Snatch: Tear off a piece of your cloak, we gotta stop that bleeding...!

GoodBad Girl: ...SO GROSS...!!!

Homeboy: ...urrrk...

Posted by MLLASH on :

Now this second image I am VERY proud of... I couldn't get it out of my mind so I got it onto the screen and it, to me, was EXACTLY as I envisioned it...

Panel 2 of Trash Lass # 4 page 5...

 -

The Snatch has just abandoned GoodBad Girl to get the dying Homeboy to the hospital, and GoodBad Girl looks over her shoulder to see what Junebug has done to Doubledare and Freaksmasher...

Doubledare and GoodBad Girl goofin' off...

 -

Posted by MLLASH on :

The BABES OF PREY? Will the villainous Henpecker team-up with Trash Lass and She-He? Consider this a MAJOR hint...

Lash, I couldn't wait til you saw that picture of TL! I personally love it!

So glad you've shown us more of the characters, I was curious about your vision for Catfish.

I totally see Josie's sweater as one of those home-knitted jobs. I want to sketch her closer to your version now.

I did a sketch of Junebug, and she looks much like your version, except I have her hair pulled back in a bun. I'll post that soon.

Note: I like to do character design work, but I'm not the most innovative costume designer. So, when I see your versions of the characters, I can grab those ideas and depict them my way. So much fun!

I'm all up to date with reading the series Lash. I'm looking forward to reading the rest!

When it's all done, I intend on printing out the whole thing and doing SEQUENTIAL PENCILS!!!!

Keep up the good work!

Catch ya later, Character Creator!

Dean, that TL image is issue # 1 freakin' COVER material, man! FAB.

Yeah, Catfish is just a regular dude...

oh, PLEASE don't alter anything you have in mind because of my kiddy-drawings... I *love* your Josie!

You've caught up reading, eh? Kewl! I know issue 4 seems all bloody and gross and horriffic, but I promise the fun will be back for issue 5!

The idea of your amazing sequentials has me ready more than ever to have this finished-- consider # 4 done this weekend and # 5 busted out shortly thereafter... you rawk hearty!

Here's Junebug, all creepy and monstery after feasting - totally based on Lash's picture. When not on a post-gorge, I assume she looks like a glamorous 70-something lady.

OHMYFREAKIN GAWDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD it's 100% dead-on FLAWLESS. We are sharing the same brain.... and yeah, non-gotge she's way high-society... oh, Dean... SHIVERS, man...

[LOL] Laughin' my ASS off @ Josie...!!!!

Posted by MLLASH on :

So I decided the just-finished Trash Lass # 4 ("Here there be origins!") should have 3 alternate covers, NONE of which feature our gal Trash Lass. Bad business? Maybe...

Here's version 1, featuring the Homies after attacking Junebug in her mansion...

 -

Posted by MLLASH on :

Version 2 features the Savage She-He, who gets possibly the world's shortest origin story ever in comics (1 panel!)...

 -

Posted by MLLASH on :

Final version, featuring Henpecker, whom I adore. I hoped her origin sequence made her more sympathetic to readers, 'cause I have PLANS for her!

(middle row): Trash Lass, Savage She-He

Can't wait to see, Sketchy! You have been a complete Encouragement-face where TL GGC is concerned, THANK YOU.

A slow day at work today combined with my pride and excitement at finishing TL GGC resulted in a BUTTLOAD of my own doodles today, which I will post here tomorrow or Wednesday.

Some are secnes from the # 5 script, some are "then & now" doodles.

Anyhoo, I'm already getting ideas for another mini...

Posted by MLLASH on :

SPOILER WARNING! Heh... that's fun to do that for my own stuff.... Lots of Issue # 5 spoilers follow!

Issue 4, page 13 mentions GoodBad Girl on the cover of the Memphis Flyer, which is an actual free weekly newspaper here in Memphis. The picture was taken on the night of the Homie's ill-fated attack on Junebug in the 90s. Hannah is likely hysterical not because of the horror of that evening but because the Junebug entity is in the process of taking over her body...

TL # 5, page 3 panel 3...

Greg has been switched the instant they arrive at G.A.R.B.A.G.E. HQ and attcks the Snatch...

The way I drew it, it totally looks like he's copping a feel... that ISN'T supposed to be...!

TL # 5, the big reveal....

Hannah did not survive that night, Snatch... she became the new home for... JUNEBUG!

Well, so much for THAT theory!

Page 11,

"....CLEAN THINGS UP!"

Posted by MLLASH on :

Pages 12-13 featuring Henpecker vs. Freaksmasher, possibly my favorite scene sequence of the issue. We learn Henpecker is much smarter than she appears, even if the location of her propulsion system is a bit humorous!

 -

Posted by MLLASH on :

Page 21.... there's a new girl at the Department of Sanitation...

 -

Posted by MLLASH on :

Page 22, final panel...

Despite the humorous dialogue-captions between Bobo, Brenda and Henny during this panel, the image itself should be enough to give some ideas for the next mini!

The coma-goo in Josie's tube has leaked out enough so that she awakens...

 -

Posted by MLLASH on :

RIP, 2 TL characters...

There are 2 casualties in the primary cast of heroes and villains. I don't generally like to kill off characters, but a) I didn't much like Pustule anyway and 2) The Snatch's death is going to have some very BIG consequences....

 -

Posted by MLLASH on :

Trash Lass vol. 2? Yeah, I'm thinking so... here's a cover idea for issue # 1... I used to LOVE those Kevin Maguire Justice League covers with the cast staring at the camera all badass and stuff...

 -

And it dawns on me just how many super-types now work for the department of sanitation...

Posted by MLLASH on :

And an ideas for the all-ROMANCE issue of Trash Lass in volume 2.... this image I just *had* to call "Chicken Dance"...

This is Erroll and Carly... son and daughter of a couple of the Homies...

Posted by MLLASH on :

So today I got to thinking that as Henpecker became more assimilated into life while not having to deal with a psycho father and having her basic good nature subjugated by evil body-hopping cannibal entities, she might move away from the giant-chicken suit...

Here's one idea, a dress made of various feathers (the arm-launchers are for her eggs and exploding beaks). I dunno, I do hate to lose the giant clunky chicken-head....
