Hello,
This is the Museum of Legion Arts Threeboot! The MoLA had a long life of exhibits, but then interest lessened. New energy came and it re-opened, but it was only temporary. (Not that different from the Legion's comic book publishing history!)

So, our first exhibition for V3 is:

JAPANESE MECHA LEGION

Here is some reference for you....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mecha_Musume

Submissions are always welcome, even after the month ends. We will see how this exhibit goes until the middle of January. Then we will assess whether it will be time for a second theme or if there is enough interest in keeping this theme.

PLEASE HAVE SOME FUN!

One of my most lovely memories is the cover of my first Battle Angel Alita by Yukito Kishiro.

For the new museum catagory, she's my first entry, a rethinking of Dawnstar.

That's Battle Angel Alita.

Posted by Candle on :

Yes, she is!
You saw my work in progress.
This is the finished product.
[Smile]

Ohhhh... srry.

Posted by Candle on :

For my second entry - Battle Angel Alita had five or six (or so) incarnations, this drawing by Yukito Kishiro details 4 of them.

Posted by Candle on :

The posters and reimaginings are mine but the art and photos will have to be from others since I can't download any of my own work.

I asked about that earlier and I think it's okay.
Let me know if it isn't and I'll go back to my freelance stuff.

From one of the earliest mangas and probably my favorite, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind by Hayao Miyazaki.
She might not be mecha enough but (I agree with Sketch on her BEST identity so) Aylasicaa of Winathia the entry shall be!
If you've got built in electrical shocks of untold wattage, who needs lots of guns.

 -

I feel SOOOOO much better with things this way.

Great start on this exhibit, Candle! The Dawnstar and Luornu are very clear representations.

To me, Imrasicaa looks like Aylasicaa. I suppose the red hair and blue outfit do that. Also, the scenery seems more Winathicaa than Titanicaa. [LOL]

[LOL]
I agree, totally and changed the entry.
I hope it's not cheating to add your brilliance to my ideas!

Here's Mecha Garth....

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Here's Mecha Nura. I guess the idea is that her visions appear in her headset, powered by her circulartory system?

Posted by Candle on :

Fun!
Garth's a shoe in and I think Nura is neat, but we can't see her lovely face!
(Love her boots and connection thingys.)

From ANTM, cycle 8 at the Great Wall of China by Nigel Barker or Tyra Banks, I forget which.

From MMaSM, season 2, Jonathan, I think.

Neat Mecha-Garth, Sketch.

It occurs to me that Animated Brainiac 5, Fortress Lad and / or Gear are naturals for this sort of showcase, being different sorts of mecha-morphs.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

My favorite pictures of Brainy were always when he was using some kind of tech, like on his head or back or even in his hands. As much as I liked Animated Brainy, I still felt like he did a bit too much of the Chameleon Boy schtick. Still, I did like the mecha-morph aspect.

It would be fun to try and make a cool version of Fortress Lad.

Thanks, Set!

Oh, Candle... the pictures at the Great Wall were shot by Tyra. I like your choices! ... and it's Gundam, not Gundum.

Great stuff so far!

Dean--I'm loving your incorporation of Japanese style to your artwork! Very cool, looking forward to you doing more.

Shady--loving the reimagingings.

You know would rock at this? veryvery--I hope she still stops by and does some of these!

Kidflash2fan too!

I have a picture of Phantom Girl coming up. In the meantime I need to look up "Ghost in the Machine." I don't actually know what it is.

Posted by Candle on :

Thanks for the input, Sketch.
I corrected the PC entry.
[Smile]
Set: Gear came to my mind, too, but not Fortress Lad - good thought.

Cobie: I hope veryvery shows up, too.
I'd love a White Raven doll and a kidflashfan2 drawing and a Drake entry or 5 and . . .
sigh

I guess I took kind of a tack with this one. When I think of Japanese Mecha I usually think of the old school giant robots like Gigantor and Tranzor/Mazinger Z. Anyway, I had to Photoshop one of those giant robots into a Mecha Colossal Boy. The original 3D render is of Mazinger Z by Jose Liébana. Your guess is as good as mine as to what Robo-Gim is doing tearing ass through 21st Century Madrid. [Wink]

I'm so excited!
What wonderful work.
Just wowwow!

Dreamer was definitely wired into computers or on a bed of sensors wired to a computer.

And Kinetix in her tail and ears form resembles a Japanese form, not mecha exactly.
I'll look it up.
(Edit - I looked up things and the best comparison, I think, is Strike Witches and maybe Sky Girls.

Other naturals for this presentation are [Quislet] , [Wildfire] and [Shikari] !

And local artist wise, Space Cadet's Legion work is perfect.
Expecially his robots and Emerald Empress!

And snareser!
And so many others!

I found a number of interesting drawings on 'Anima Cubed' that I wanted to share here.
These are labeled mobile suit gundam girls.
Some are signed but none were labeled in a way that I could figure out the artist's name.
So, just enjoy and know that I didn't draw them, I just reimagined them.

Maybe I shouldn't do this, but I just wanted to make sure that his beautiful and very mecha Japanese looking Empress got displayed here.

Sorry I haven't been contributing of late, I've gotten bogged down between family, work and a couple of original projects (comic and iphone app). No problem reposting the image, as long as it's to this site.

Here's a couple of quickie shots at some Mecha-inspired Legionnaires, Saturn Girl and Dawnstar for starters. I'm not really happy with the Dawnstar yet (face and skin tone are wrong for starters, while the armour needs a lot of work). I'm using a few different hair styles until I find one that fits.

As always, I'm keeping the Legionnaires as teenagers rather than old, married folks with kids; click on the thumbnails for larger shots.

Wow, that Tharok has a twisted Freddy Krueger look going on! I love it!

Posted by Candle on :

Wonderful, SC!
Tharok is perhaps THE mecha villian!
He even predates Quislet as a Legion character.
I find the original ones, pre-mecha, to be the most chilling!

The Dawnstar and Saturn Girl images are fantastic, too!
(And thanks for the compliment, it means a lot.)

Sketch - the game characters, Imra and Rokk I'm guessing (and we know how good at that I am), are so interesting!
I love that you're always thinking 'Legion'.
[Smile]

Dawnstar reminds me of the Knight Sabers.

Posted by Candle on :

There's another natural mecha character in the Legion(s).
I know that the drawing is a combination of Dawnstar and Shikari, but that's fine by me since I love both characters -

 -

The initials are on the drawing but I'll try to find a clearer name to give credit to.
I didn't originally save the picture to share with anyone.
It's here, somewhere in Bits.
Anyway.

No. Those were a part of the original piece. I only recolored parts to fit Ultra Boy's color scheme.

I think she's AmAzInG!

The mecha wings remind me of those indian dancers, Navaho?, that wear the round feather 'shields' on their backs and carry feather fans.

That's a wonderful look.
The legging thingys are pretty cool, too.

Wow, I never even thought of that until you mentioned it, but you're right.

Good eye!

Here's another of the same character, with some PhotoShop actions to (hopefully) give her a little more "painted" look.
