Hey all,

On his website this morning, Geoff Johns posted the cover to the Titans-Legion one-shot coming out in September. Here's a link (scroll down):

http://www.geoffjohns.com/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?s=d4c1f4a9c05b984471692e036ac10ec6;act=ST;f=27;t=4127

And if I'm seeing correctly, it looks like the Persuader is on the cover to Titans #16 in some kind of Iwo Jima pose with the rest of the Titans.

Let the speculation begin.....

Just to warn you, you'll need to be registered and logged in to Geoff's board in order to view this link.

Oh, and btw... regardless of how the story is, I LOVE the cover. Anything by Phil works for me [Smile]

Spoilers below if you don't want to know, don't read.

With the cover being what it is... it looks like just about anything could happen with the Waid/Kitson run. Heck you could have a Fatal Five made up of Manos themselves from what I saw. I only see one version of the heroes though. Maybe they're just trying to go for a Fatal 25 or something.

That was a nice pick up on the Iwo Jima cover too Capt. Dallas. I don't know how WWII ties into the Legion/Titans crossover though. For now I'll just take it as an homage.

I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the ride.

I can appreciate that sentiment.

So, can anyone figure out a way to post the image(s) on this thread?

Hey, did you notice what Johns called Waid's new series?

And a week following that, I get to team-up with one of my favorite writers ever, Mark Waid, as we tackle the TEEN TITANS/LEGION one-shot which sets up Mark and Barry Kiton's new book LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES!
Oh yeah.

Hm. After trying to take in the cover to the Titans/Legion crossover (and failing, I admit -- my eyes, my eyes ...), there's a wee detail which caught my attention.

It's likely just an artifact of the file, or of my screen resolution, so I offer the thought up to Legion World for immediate dissection. (Muahaha.)

Look, there, in the top left corner (more or less). Nice black and white uniform, there. Jarth? Possibly. Probably. Maybe.

But that hair looks distinctly blond to me ...

Dare one hope?

Tai

I was thinking that perhaps it was Garth in the midst of all that lightning, but since I don't see Ultra Boy any place else on the cover, I'm guessing it's probably him.

Bummer.

I noted the same thing, and for a fraction of an instant did let myself dare to hope. But I'm sure it's just Jarth. I hate seeing him on covers... What am I doing looking at spoilers anyway...

WOW great cover! i spot many different versions of the Fatal Five. i even see Caress and Flare in there. Is there the 2-Eye'd Cera Kesh Empress? and it means at least one of those Validus's (Validi?) is the child of Garth and Imra. this confirms without a doubt the role of some sort of time anomaly in the "revamp".

Sensor is a snake-woman still.
Kinetix is in her hulk form.
But I think that's Jan, not Jarth.

Dagnabbit I'm anxious.

Posted by Gorilla Nebula on :

all the legionnaires on the cover are the current versions. my guess is the story ends with the Legion returning to an altered future, and we have to wait till december and LSH #1 to see how things have been revamped.

Posted by Spellbinder on :

Hmmm... kinda like a "Zero Hour", but rather than just starting back at the Founding, we'll join the story "already in progress?"

Remember that for many years, it was common to suggest that "DC" stood for "Deceptive Covers." Save your eyesight and blood pressure, amigos, by avoiding reading too much into it.

a busy cover but nice. I think like a lot of things this is a bit of a "spoiler tease" it may have some or no relevance to the story.

Interesting that clone el is center stage and seems to be torn between the 20th and 31st Century. Is that a metaphor for anything?

Maybe that's why he's suddenly bulkier than he was in Young Justice. Teenage Kal is stuck inside him [Smile]

Who is that in the lower left corner next to Karate Kid and below a Validus' fist-wielding arm?

And who's in the top left quadrant-- to the left of Kid Quantum and above the Persuader?

GREAT cover, though-- makes me more excited about this special.

Is anyone vaguely reminded of Psycho Pirate when looking at the central Superboy pic?

Todd

Wow! What a cover! But who's the redhead in the black cape on the far left, under Kid Q?

Posted by Gorilla Nebula on :

Mystery lad: i think that next to KK is a version of Mano (the Sprouse version?); and left of Kid Q. is the current "serial killer" Sarya the Empress.

Posted by jimgallagher on :

Yeah, I think you're right, GN. I'm seeing various costumes on Tharok, Mano, and Persuader, so I'm guessing that's the new Empress, before she got all greenified. But she should be a brunette shouldn't she?

Crap. I was hoping it was Lilith or Mysa in a new costume.

VERY nice cover.

Perhaps this time-whacking will be a way for Waid to "pick & choose" what elements of the LEGION he wants in his LSH series.

I hope we get back Garth & Jan and a normal early-Wade Kinetix.

Did anybody notice the other Legion-related character on another title's cover in the September solicits?

It ties in with the TITANS/LEGION special...

Kind of sad not to see anything under the 'L's, isn't it?

It looks like everything is current continuity, but I'm very excited to see what changes must be in store...especially with the Sayra-version Emerald Empress and postboot-Empress in the same shot. Curious, the legion of Fatal Five members the heroes seem to be up against. I can't wait for the story on this one.

I *know* it's just a teaser but ....

Poor Triad's being blasted by Mano on the lower left
Ferro's in trouble and so is Gates
No Jo? uh, oh
No Dreamer? Double uh, oh
Validus (upper right) is holding someone in his right hand. Hopefully that's really Lyle below Violet's right arm.
What's that green lizard thingy below Superboy's left armpit?

October and November will be AGONIZING.

In order:
- looks like Triad neutral in a *new* outfit! (Orange and Purple are above)
- I think that's Dreamer just under Starfire.
- Yeah, definitely looks like Lyle to me.
- I think that's Beast Boy as an alligator.

What I can't help but notice is that Wildfire is still in his Coipel designed suit (despite the prelim sketch Lightle did of Wildfire in his old suit (which I didn't really think was going to happen anyway)).

Not to me -- it might be an error in art, but it's not quite Coipel's design -- the sleeves are skin tight with apparent gloves and the there's a line that runs down the arms. Coipel's design has those wide sleeves that end midforearm with no gloves. There are also thigh-high boots where Coipel's design doesn't have that - just loose fitting pants that seem to connect to her shoes.

I still find it amusing that they talk about a "crisis that only the Titans and the Legion can handle."

No disrespect to the Titans, but please. The LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES, 20 some-odd of the DCU's most powerful heroes, need the help of Young Justice? As what? Cheerleaders?

Oh well. As long as nobody dies, I guess nothing's THAT bad.

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

Oh come on 'binder. Everyone knows you need a green skinned hero who can change into animals to balance the orange skinned one who can change into animals. [Big Grin]

Let's see, we have:

Superboy = M'onel
Starfire = Wildfire (?)
Robin = Karate Kid
Kid Flash = XS
Changling = Chameleon
Wonder Girl = Andromeda
Cyborg = Gear

I didn't include Raven because I'm still not really sure she officially rejoined nor do I think she'll still be around after the next issue's conclusion.

So while I love my two favorite 80's books finally getting a non-Elseworlds crossover I agree. What do the Titans really offer that the Legion doesn't already have in spades?

The ONLY thing I can think of is Wonder Girl's connection to the gods. Maybe that's the key.

Sheesh! Obviously the answer is that whoever is causing the crisis will instantly recognize that the Titans have a higher selling book than the Legion and give up!

What about her precog abilities? You'd have to toss Dreamer into that combo.

And I hadn't spotted her on the cover. Damn thing is too hard on my bad eyes to look at too closely.

I suspect that there may be some Legion related Identity Crisis cross-overs at this point, if the "event" is truly to be as large as imagined.

Also, did anyone else note that L.E.G.I.O.N. is slated to appear inteh Adam Strange mini?

Very cool cover but it scares me to death! I love the old Legion but have been in survival mode when it comes to the Legion for the last few years. Scared of things getting TOO complicated.

But a part of me would die of happiness if we return to something a bit after the Magic Wars. [Smile] doh!

Great cover. I love Phil Jiminez! As to why so many Mano's? Maybe he's a fave of Phil having a spanish name and all of that. As a hispanic kid he stood out to me b/c of that.

Good call on the Fatal Fifty. [Smile] I smell hyper time?!

I can handle the reboots (WHAT CHOICE DO I HAVE EVERY FIVE TO TEN YEARS ANYWAY?!?!), but I can't handle the Legionnaires looking like pre-teen 12 year olds again!!! We need to go back to the semi-adult themes. After all, half of the Titans aren't really kids anymore. Think about this, the average 15 year old in the 31st century will probably be considered an adult anyway. Jo and Tinya are parents for pete's sake! I hope the art will reflect the maturity of these "teens" in the future...no pun!!!

Posted by Chameleon Boy on :

Yes, but who's to say that little Cub will be around after the re-launch?? If Mark make's them all around 16 years old again I don't think, even in an advanced culture like the 30th Century, that Tinya would have a child that early in life (of course that happens all the time in this time line, so who know!! [Eek!] ).

It's a "wait and see" kinda thing, like it or not!

I agree with Myg and Cham. I wasn't a big fan of them returning to little kids. Seeing an Ultra Boy who is half the size of Superman isn't any fun. DC kept promoting them as kids which really suprised AFTER Tinya had a baby?!

Cockrum gave us teens that didn't look like my 11 year old geeks. [Smile] And I still see the Legion having teens and adults on the team personally.

Waid's Legion seems to be a bit more serious but it also can be teens versus the system. Don't count them out b/c they are young, etc. Which i won't like.

While I love the cover it still has me worried that we are going to end up with some Hyptertime mismashed Legion when this is all said and done. And no one will be happy with it because it will be a confusing mess or cetain version of their favorite characters wern't used in favor of another.

I didn't care for the first one. I don't know who did it, and i may be insulting the artist, but it looked a little...unpolished.

The second one was okay, wonder girl is okay. Persuader made it for me.

The third one was the "big shot" piece, and it was pretty good.

I just really wanna see Legion take back it's place as the best DC book out there. And given the competition from books like JSA, BoP, and Flash, thats not gonna be easy.

Maybe Waid should do for Nightwing what he did for Flash, cause god knows it needs it.

I dont know about you guys...but this new "anything goes" LSH series has me a little worried. Im not sure I WANT to see altered versions of my beloved Legionnaires. I mean, maybe if it was a "What If" kinda story...but Im not too keen on it being my monthly dose of Legion adventures!

Ive been a fan for a looooooong time, and I think with its 30-plus years of history, its done just fine as it was. Why fix what ain't broke? :/

Posted by Faraway Lad on :

Unfortunately Rikto, I think you'll find a lot of fans who would argue that the legion is broke.

Mind you they cant agree on who broke it, when it was broke or even what it is that makes it broke [Wink]

Me i like my dose of Legion. I am not too fixated on continuity anymore after all its not the real Legion anymore, not since superboy was written out of the history of the Legion. (see even I'm doing it now [Big Grin] )

So I am prepared to wait and see.

To me as long as this Legion is about a club or group of super powered teens doing heroic things and that they keep the founders and stuff i am willing to accept this version of the legion, in much the same way I accepted legion on the run. What is not on as far as i am concerned is whiting out the characters to replace them with new ones or moving on to a "next generation" situation.

Posted by Arachne on :

Oh, you just had to bring that possibility up.

I'm going to have nightmares now.

Posted by Chameleon Boy on :

In my humble opinion (and a fan for 30 years or so) I think the Legion got "broke" around the time when Keith Giffen really got his mitts on them, not at first, there were lots of good art issues he helped produce but then his total control seemed to produce, to me, stories that just came accross ugly, dark and depressing. After he left then things seemed to level out again and the art got fun and exciting but then after Zero Hour, it just was not the same.

On a side note I have always been a Keith Giffen fan, so don't get me wrong. His stuff in the 70's like Claw the Unconquered, the Defenders and All Star Squadron were all just great artistic fun and so many styles to choose from too!! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] His funny stuff in the 80's was just killer fun to me, from the JLA and Ambush Bug among many others just had me rolling on the floor. Then he did a °180 and just about destroyed the Legion by changing and mutilating and even killing many a beloved character and it's just not been the same since. He really wanted to shake things up but it was a bit much for my taste!! Some folks really like his Legion writing but I for one did not. His art also got very dark and shadowey and just kinda ugly there for a while. It's since seems to have leveled out a bit since then but boy those were some rough years for the Legion, at least for me they were!! [Frown]

Paul Levitz era was the best time for the Legion to me (Besides the Bates/Cockrum issues). Grell and Sherman (with some nice Nasser art too) are all issues that seemed to really hook me totally, forever. [Smile]

I hope that Waid and Kitson can make that sort of magic happen again. I have faith but you never know, do you!?!

All in all the Legion of Super Heroes is the best of the best and you just can't beat that!!
