To MLLASH, Thriftshop, Grey, Reep, TBWUP, Lard, Stu and everyone else whose been around for awhile-

I'VE BEEN WATCHING YOU!!

Seriously, I feel like I've been stalking you people for years now, following you from board to board reading conversations but very rarely participating. well, anyway I may feel like the creepy looking guy in the corner that follows you no matter where you go, but I'm perfectly harmless (unless provoked - really hard). So there - I've revealed myself.

Any other lurkers been around for years without saying much? Please, I don't want to be the only crazed stalker here. Step forward and be noticed, if only for a short moment and join me in thanking the "talkies" (as we psychotic lurkers like to call you) for giving us a few giggles and guffaws through the years.

Hmmm...I know of what you speak. Although, I joined the old DCMB back in 1999 (I believe just to answer a question in the Legion of Super-Heroes forum and as GLC), I've spent most of my message board time reading posts and the conversations of others rather than participate.

Now that I've help mastermind our current and hopefully last incarnation, I've found my new, better known status a bit unsettling at times. I'm still a lurker (in the shadows) at heart.

And whether they know it or not, I've known most of the people here for years. [Big Grin]

Actually, I can understand the impulse to lurk. Some people just are not the proactive type. Introverted vs. Extroverted, and all that. Naturally, I'm about as big an introvert as they come. I've just made a conscious decision that in my life, I don't want my introverted nature to rule me relationships, so I've made an effort to step out of my comfort zone and take chances. It's still hard sometimes for me at a big party to walk over to someone I don't know real well and initiate conversation. Still, as Kirk told Saavik, "you learn by doing."

I think as optimusmagnus back on the old DCMB's, I was more of a lurker. But as Kid Prime, I think I'm more proactive. I like being Kid Prime better. [Smile]

I have to confess that I was a lurker on the old DC message boards for about the last three or four years! I never registered, but I always loved the environment and reading the insights from the various members. Just felt the need to speak out finally and interact with some 'legends' so to speak when Legion World popped up, as it seemed much more fun and comprehensive than the old boards.

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

I lurked around the old DCMB for quite awhile before registering and jumping in. And I can honestly say it was one of the most pleasurable, life altering things I've ever done. And this site is a testament to that!

Posted by Arachne on :

I was lurking of and on on the old boards since they announced that DnA were taking over the title. I only registered last year, and even then I didn't post much.

Hi lurkers! Hi regular posters!

I consider myself a "sporadic" poster. Heh--sporadic! I should add that to the "words that make you giggle" thread. [Colossal Boy]

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

Kinda sounds like Grandin Gender Reversal Germs. Well, half the time.

Posted by DrakeB3003 on :

The only message board I ever lurked on was the Green Lantern boards -- I was interested in the discussion, but needless to say, the environment was a bit intimidating to jump into. Eventually I made the plunge and I find those shark filled waters are fine for swimming as long as you keep track of your extremities [Smile] .

Posted by Varalent on :

I also lurked around for about a month or so on the old DCMB boards before registering. Mostly due to feeling intimidated because I had been away from LSH for so long. I just wasn't up to date with all the changes that everyone took for granted.

("What do you mean Superboy didn't exist?") [Confused]

Finally said what the hell and registered.

It does feel good! It makes me wonder why I lurked for so long when I always knew this was a great bunch of people. If I can't read Legion, at least I can talk about it now in my spare time. [Wink]

Posted by Sonnie Boy on :

After lurking about for about a year I found that I felt quite.... wary? maybe shy? anyway, certainly hesitant at putting my point accross to start with as there are these tremendously well read and knowledgable characters here and I didn't want to become their roadkill... after several months I started putting my points accross and on one controversial post EDE posted almost immediately afterwards agreeing with me, well I haven't stopped since. Thanks EDE.

Lurking is fun but joining in is better!! [Wink]

Posted by Greybird on :

It takes only one such bit of support to bring someone out of the lurking closet for good, so I can empathize with Sonnie Boy. That's true for anybody, no matter what his or her Net or fan experience.

I waited for nearly three months before plunging ahead on the DCMBs, back in the Spring of 1999, and I was afraid I'd be "roadkill." This came from being only an active (restarted) Legion fan for about two years by then, picking it up again in my 30s. I didn't need to fear. Jumping in is the best way to get going. You soon develop a taste for it.

This, by the way, after having been around by then for 16 years on the Net and its precursors (CompuServe and local bulletin boards), and already thoroughly baptized in discussion fire. I still was skittish around Legion fans. That, shall I say, is long gone {g}

You're very welcome! I actually worry sometimes about us scaring off new posters, so it's nice to know I played a part in helping at least member to stay.

I think the potential anonymity of message board posting is one thing that can make you feel more secure. Nobody HAS to know who you really are, and if you screw up with your first few posts, you can always try again with a new ID!

Or suppose you post for a really long time under one ID, then get bored with it, you can always invent a new one, and gradually shift to that one, and see if anyone guesses who you really are! [Wink]

It's sometimes impossible to add anything meaningful that they haven't alerady said. I mean really, how DO you follow up a TD post? [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

I'll join in, I'm a lurker at heart but I have to say I enjoy reading what you folks have to say. Really makes me enjoy the Legion much more.

Best.

Macrab2, I really hope you'll delurk from time to time and join us! Like you said, these conversations and everyone's opinion really help people see the Legion from every angle and appreciate the characters and story more. I'm glad so many of we former lurkers are 'coming out' because it's always good to hear fresh opinions as well as those from legendary posters (or at least, posters who seem legendary to me), such as Lash, Greybird, Lightning Lad, TD, and others.

Oh just say something bumbling and pathetic and hope it provokes her to say something else witty so you like you're making a valuable contribution to the conversation.

That's basically all I do.

Welcome, STF. Two weeks. Four years. We've all lurked some time. It may be creepy, but it's a part of life.

I think it makes sense to check out a board first, get a sense of its tone(s). I did with the Legion board on the old DCMBs. It just a week or two, but that did it for me.

Speaking of, I remember Matropolis69 and super lad kid (no caps, right?) from the old boards. ("Future" seems familiar, but I guess it was part of or similar to another user name.) So you guys aren't that good at lurking! Geez.

Posted by MLLASH on :

iirc, Teeds, I was the 1st to complimet your username; Pov was the 1st to accuse you of being a guy! And thus the legend of TD was birthed!

You recall incorrectly. You didn't even post on my first thread, you seven-letter word that begins with b.

I never greet a newbie right away as I wouldn't want to befuddle them with my legend! Anyhoo I distinctly remember complimenting your username, Ms. Photographic Memory! If I wasn't first then WHO was?!?!?

Posted by Super Lad Kid on :

Yeah, I posted a few times over at the old DC Boards. But I never actually talked to anyone. Just sort of made general comments. So I still felt like a lurker.

Well, this just seems like the proper thread for delurking, doesn't it?

I've been poking around for the last few days and finally decided to jump in. I lurk on a few message boards, but I've decided to want to be a more proactive poster, and this feels like the right place to do it. Legion fans are the nicest bunch out there.

Besides, my husband spends all his time on his gaming message boards, why shouldn't I have one where I, too, can spend countless hours posting silly things while indulging one of my great loves -- the Legion?!?

So here I am! I hope I come up with at least a few things of some relevancy as the days go by.

Posted by Semi on :

Isn't it all about tits and big hair?

Posted by Varalent on :

Actually I thing its about big tits and even bigger hair!

This thread is coooooooool!

Super Lad Kid, I am very impressed by your courage here! I knew when you joined the Royal Guard I wouldn't regret it, and this confirms it! You may not have as much faith in your powers, but your a tough LMBer to me!

I'm not a lurker, but several of my alt IDs are.

I lurked at the old DCMBs, the new DCMBs, and then I sorta followed you guys through to the Jolly Roger boards and Rob's boards, and whadda you know, I finally made it here to Legion World, found it to be so much fun (thanks to our founders and all the "talkies" for that) that I finally registered, and when I first posted on the tag team threads and Cobalt Kid complimented me, I almost fell out of my chair! And that is what got me to start posting so much. Now you all know who to blame...Cobalt Kid! [Big Grin] PS Where are you, Cobie? You've been pretty quiet lately. Start posting again so everyone can blame you for making me post so much! [Big Grin]

I'm here! The holidays are a hectic time for my massive family, but don't worry, I'll be post-whoring again in no time!

Thanks for asking though Invis B! I'm loving your stories over in the Ongoing Tag thread, I promise to start posting there as soon as I get the chance!

I like to lurk in the nude.

You said that as though you thought it would distinguish you from the majority of the people here...

This may be my favorite MMB thread ever!

Certainly close to the top!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

This is one of my all-time favorites, as you can see above! I love this thread!

The first post ever by Semi!

The first post (on Legion World) by Super Lad Kid!

Lurkers, reveal yourselves!

We're waiting!!!! We see you up there! (Did you really think we didn't? [Big Grin] )

It is, so that's why that babe keeps pointing at me when I point at her.

I'm a recovering lurker.

One post at a time man, one post at a time...

Posted by HighPriestess Viviane on :

Somebody get this man his drugs, he deserves a reward.

Posted by Loser Lad on :

Weeeee!

Posted by HighPriestess Viviane on :

Someone else can wipe up the drool.

Posted by Loser Lad on :

Yeah. Actually I may need two of you for that...

Posted by HighPriestess Viviane on :

Whoa!

It's almost got on my shoes, he sure enjoys his...what? I wasn't supposed to give him the little blue one, well what about the one that said, "Lavitra" on it?

I lurked off and on for a while--and was glad when I finally "joined in"--even if I haven't been posting lately!

Guess I'm waiting for Legion #2 before I form an opinion on THAT topic, and I don't have anything that interesting going on in 'real life'--other than I have a new great nephew, as of yesterday. :-)

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Congrats knowjack! That's great news!

Posted by Loser Lad on :

Congrats KJ!

Posted by HighPriestess Viviane on :

Hurray for KJ!

Faraway lad keeps telling me to stop lurking and start posting. Guess i have to do what the boss say's and start posting. [Wink]

Posted by Super Lad Kid on :

I feel like a lurker again because I haven't really posted in these parts for quite awhile. So here I am to reveal myself to everyone all over again!!!

Hmmmm, that didn't sound exhibitionist at all did it?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Anniversary bump!

Posted by Thora on :

It was this very thread that finally convinced Thora of Taltar to join Legion World!

You may all thank the cretinous male known as Super Lad Kid now.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Wouldn't it be groovy if this thread could get some more lurkers to reveal themselves and become major posters here on LW? It worked for Super Lad Kid *and* Semi-Transparent Fellow!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Presenting the first LW posts of Super Lad Kid and Semi-Transparent Fellow! Plus some of the earliest posts by Future!

Three stalwart Legion Worlders, who for years had been lurkers. I certainly hope there are still lurkers on these boards these days...and I hope we can get one more lurker to reveal themself!

Posted by dedman on :

There's lots of lurkers, i see guests almost everytime I log-in.

SHOW YOURSELVES!!!!! (we don't bite. Well sharklad does, but we'll try to get him to behave)

Posted by Dev Em on :

I would like to say though, that by us saying reveal (or show) yourselves...we are not looking for pookaboo pics. Although if you have any pics of sheep in dresses, Cobie would like to see those. [Wink]

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Super Lad Kid hasn't posted in almost two years! I wonder if he's gone back to lurking?

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

If a lurker were to reveal themselves in this thread sometime in April, I hereby guaranty I will vote for you for LMB Leader in the future if you ever run for that office. Even if its 10 years later and we've become the bitterest of rivals!

Such shameless pandering. gotta love it. [Wink]

Hey, Crymsun!
Welcome!

join in the fun!

Crymsun is fantastic success story and a feather in all our hats! Now, for the rest of them, I suggest we try some subtle reverse psychology. Observe -

YOU! Stupid lurkerface! Go away or we'll HUNT you down and KILL you!!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Welcome Crymsun! Glad to see you over here and can't wait to see more posts from you. All the posting on the DCMB's is totally a success if we get you to post more over here.

[Cheers]

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

BTW, per my posts in this thread, I now must vote for Crymsun should he ever run for LMB Leader!

Posted by Crymsun on :

Woo hoo! Crymsun for LMB Leader!!

And thanks for the warm welcomes!!

A long time ago, I would post occasionally on the City of Heroes thread, and played that game with Vee and Scott and some of the others.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Neither have posted in awhile, but hopefully that will end soon!
