LWMB TOP 40 OF 2010

This chart ranks posters solely in terms of how many times they posted in the last year. The number following each poster’s name represents the total number of posts made in 2010, which was derived by subtracting the December 2009 post totals from those of December 2010. In the case of posters who entered the Top 40 this year (Dev Em, Mattropolis, Set, and Sarcasm Kid), the number of posts they had when they entered the Top 40 was subtracted from their December 2010 totals. People with zero posts in 2010 are excluded from the chart.

As it happened, exactly 40 posters posted at least once in the Top 40 this year.

For comparison, each poster’s current (December 2010) overall ranking is included in parenthesis.

I'm really confused as to how you figured this out...

Posted by Exnihil on :

I'm not entirely sure I understand what is represented here, HWW.

Are you saying that, of the subcategory of top 40 overall posters, this is their internal ranking for 2010? Otherwise, if this just ranks volume of 2010 postings regardless of overall ranking, I'm fairly certain that quite a few posters would have more than 1 post.

Posted by He Who LSHes on :

I subtracted the December 2009 totals from the December 2010 totals. For example, Quis had 25,372 posts last December and 31,542 posts this December. Therefore, 31,542 - 25,372 = 6170.

In your case, Dev, you entered the Top 40 back in May, so I subtracted your total of that month (3986) from your total of this month (5688) to arrive at 1702. It probably would have been fairer to include all of your posts for 2010, but I wasn't keeping track of post counts below the Top 40 then.

Yes, it ranks only those who have been in the Top 40 during 2010. You're right that there are many below the Top 40 who posted more than some of those listed here. However, the large number of LW members precludes keeping track of everyone's post count. You gotta draw the line somewhere.

On 2/1 I posted that I had 1230 posts and that was after a decent January. That in itself would put me at 4458.That's not counting December and January...which I'm not sure of...but I know that I was under 1000 until this year started.

Does not really matter.

I totally understand that the logistics of keeping track of everybody's posts all year would be impossible. No foul on that bro...just glad you keep track of what you do from month to month.

I appreciate the difficulty in tracking all posters, month-to-month and year-to year. But it was a little confusing criteria; thanks for clarifying.

I found it interesting how many ranked for the year close to (or especially on) their overall ranking.

Thanks for understanding.

I had to make some tough choices in assembling this chart. If I added in your 1230 posts, would that give you an unfair advantage over Mattropolis and others who weren't so dilligent about posting their own progress? Should I add in people from the Top 50 (SharkLad, Mystery Lad, CJ Taylor, and superboymddjr), who also put in very strong showings and whose posts I have tracked since around May in case they break into the Top 40 (as Set and Sarky did)? Ultimately, I came up with what I thought to be the fairest criteria. Obviously, not everybody is going to be thrilled by the results.

As for those of you who "fehed" my humble efforts. . . what can I say? Start posting more and maybe you'll make next year's edition. [Big Grin]

(Speaking of which, this is a work in progress and I expect to refine it by next year. If anybody has any suggestions on how to make it more equitable or representative of LW as a whole, don't be shy about posting them.)

Posted by Dev Em on :

The problem is twofold here. Unreasonable to expect you to track everyone and all the post counts for everyone.

On the flip side, posters such as myself who come in late to the top 40 loose months of posting...in my case at least 5 months total...with several of those months being huge.

I have a few ideas, that I will be thinking about and posting soon. To start with the first of the year. Make it as close to Jan - Jan as possible. I'll share soon.

Posted by Dev Em on :

Things are already in the works. Everyone who hhas a post has been recorded already for next years list. More to come. End of line...

Posted by Legion Tracker on :

I know I have a LONG way to go to catch the big Top 40 posters, and maybe never will, but I had more posts in 2010 than half the folks on the list above. I understand, though, that you can't keep track of all of us.

The dogs are great, although the dogs I had when I used to romp here, have sadly all passed away (at ripe old ages). But I still have collies, several who are champions now, and I've bred a couple of litters, some of whom have also become champions.

I've been chronicling my dogs and their show wins at www.springbankcollies.com (although it needs a bit of updating).

HOT 100 OF THE YEAR 2011

And here they are: the top 100 (and then some) posters of the year!

Okay . . . it’s a little more than a hundred, but that’s because so many people (5!) tied for the anchor position.

And it’s been a little more than a year, since I counted from Dec. 5, 2010 (the day after I posted last year’s survey) to Dec. 17, 2011 (when I started compiling this year’s survey) – but 12 days would make little if any difference in the overall rankings.

These figures were derived, simply enough, by subtracting last year’s total from this year’s (the difference is the number after the dash). You can see last year’s Top 40 in the first post of this thread, although my methodology was somewhat different then. Both charts provide a revealing glimpse, I think, of who’s prominent in our online community and how prominent they are.

Enjoy!

Wow, Invisible Brainiac comes back with a vengeance! When did he come back, August? That's crazy--particularly because he posts in almost every forum and always contributes something to the thread at hand!

If I thought Set and Dave Hackett had like triple than what they have, does that mean I spent three times more thinking about their posts than everyone else's?

I bet almost all of Novelty's posts are in Spaceopoly! Same with Malvolio!

And Vee probably has 70% of his posts in the College GameDay thread!

Some posts have several alt ID's on there. [Big Grin]

Kudos to those Alt Ids that made the list. Especially those one or two posters with not two, not three but FOUR Ald Ids on there. [Razz]

Your comment on # of posts and chart positions made me check. The 2010 figures show a sharp drop from 18th to 19th - 800+ to 400+ posts.

In the current list, #38 was the highest ranking one who made only 400+ posts.

Great that everyone's posting so much. I wonder why though?

THE TOP 100 POSTERS OF 2012

And here it is . . . the annual listing of the 100 most prolific posters of the year.

The stats below run from Dec. 17, 2011, to Dec. 15, 2012. Post totals were calculated by subtracting this year’s total from last year’s. (What happened to Dec. 16? It was swallowed by the Mayan apocalypse . . . which is another way of saying I chose to copy the stats on Dec. 15 when it looked like LW would be moving quickly to another site and that post totals after Dec. 11 would be lost. In any case, the extra day wouldn’t make much difference in terms of overall rankings.)

It’s taken an additional two weeks to go through the data and resolve a few issues, such as identifying posters who’ve changed their names. (Shame on you! [Wink] )

A few additional stats:
Below is the 100 off the top of the chart, complete with a two-year perspective. The first number on the left represents this year’s position; the second number is last year’s. The number on the right represents the total number of posts.

Enjoy!

I'm in good company rounding out the top ten.

Also hit in at 76. Odd that Timberwolf didn't make it, but I don't think he posted all that much.

Timber Wolf posted 16 times and is at No. 107.

Yeah, I knew it was low.

This is prob my favorite list you do! Amazing to look at a whole year with this perspective.

HEEEEY! I made it to the top 50 in only a few months! I need to post more, seriously.

Coincidentally, I seem to be stuck around the 20 mark in total posts AND yearly. Weird.

I really slacked off at the end of the year, but still made the Top Ten. Go, me!

Wow, I jumped from 21 to 14!

Wow...I'm ranked? Go me!! [Smile]

I just realized that the Number One poster last year didn't make the Top 100 this year. Remember who?

I went from fifth to ninth. Amazing what being in a relationship will do. [Wink]

I'm surprised that I rose from No. 11 to No. 6; I posted 600 fewer times than last year.

Posting in general slowed down in 2012. Compare this chart to last year's (on Page 2 of this thread): all of the Top Ten posters of 2011 have at least 2800 posts.

Boyfriends and girlfriends are bad for posting. [Wink]

Now it's true I was Tom Tanner Issue #1 for a while this year, but that was only an homage to DC's New 52 and PTB's Bizarro decision to publish a bunch of faux issue #1's.

But I was Klar Ken T5477 for a long time before that.

Sorry for the inconvenience. [Wink]

I already knew you were Tom, Klar, so the shame is not upon you. [Big Grin]
