Hi! Maybe you've noticed but the software on this message board is starting to show it's age. So, we've purchased a more modern software to replace it.

Do to complications in transferring the forums over to the new software, I've had to rely on some help. Luckily, they've been able to transfer a lot (except for polls and private messages).

Unfortunately, that transfer happened December 11th, 2012. So any posts being made since then, including anyone made from now on, will not be in the new Legion World forums without being re-posted once it's open.

I still need to personalize the site and learn the software before it goes live. But, I just want everyone to know that the posts that you make now are not going to be recorded on the new site.

When the time comes, this site will be temporarily archived so that any PMs or other information can be transferred over or accessed or saved. There will be another announcement and a date given when we will no longer have the UBB.Classic version of the boards available.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

OMG ... It's being rebooted ... posts since the 11th are not in continuity !

I've never been more excited in all of my life.

It's a Crisis of December 11th.

C.O.D.E. CODE.

That's way better than COIE. How do you pronounce that?!?!

Does this mean we can be as obnoxious as we want since these posts will be lost?!?!?!??!!

(I'm working on it already. Just need a few more ?s and !s)

I'm trying to decide whether I should go wild and crazy with posts now, knowing that I can be completely unrestrained since nothing I post will make it into the retrobooted board, or whether I should save up for a massive post party on the Legion World 2.0.

Very slick!

Just poking around a bit, it looks there will probably be a bit of a learning curve with how to do some things we've gotten used to.

Some tags, for instance (bolding, centering, italics) seem to be a bit erratic with how they migrated over, but nothing earth-shattering.

Looking forward to getting the hang of the place.

Thanks, Nighty!

I don't know if you are soliciting feedback yet, Nighty, on noted issues (perhaps this is already something that will be addressed during customization), but - while doing some post clean up for tags, I noticed that there is a 10,000 character limit for posts.

As some of the "Bits" posts would routinely be well above that limit, could this be increased? Thanks in advance.

I'll look into it. Please don't bother to clean up tags. I still need to run a script that will do that.

Sorry guys, but I'm starting a new position at work while still doing my old one and just don't have a lot of free time to devote to this atm, but I also don't want to half-ass it either. I was showing the new forum as a way to show there's a light at the end of the tunnel, but it'll probably be January that I actually switch us over (as I'll need all of my vacation time to try and work on this).

The problems with porting over forced my hand sooner than I was ready.

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

Ok. I've removed the character limit.

Posted by Exnihil on :

Thanks!

And no problem, man... the tag clean up was just me being anal retentive with my own posts by way of getting familiar with things.

I understand what a mammoth task this is, so no worries.

Minor thing then - can you switch the dates to say (e.g.) "December 11, 2012" rather than 12-11-2012? The latter looks like the 12th of November to me (and probably all other UK Legion Worlders).

I just guessed the URL, but afterward I checked and Mr. Google had found it too.

You definitely can't redo it? It seems like there's a LOT of stress for you caused by the fact that it's Been Done and we'll lose something like a month's worth of posts - if you could do a new transfer, then you could simply take as long as you need.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I'm fine with however long it takes.

One thing I noticed though:

We seem to have lost five members on the new board.

That's the problem. When I was doing the transfers not everything (especially the posts) would come over and the script is built in such a way that it overwrites and starts all over again. The VB guy that manages the importing tool also had numerous issues due to the age and modding of this board (and he knows what he is doing). The last port he did, gave us the most we both thought was possible and I made the decision that it was the best place to stop. This wasn't an easy process that can be repeated whenever I want to.

The month worth of posts can be re-posted manually. There's also a hack that I can use to rewrite the authors and the dates, if I have to move it all over myself.

I'll look at the date when I get home.

I'll look into it.

Ah...vBulletin doesn't have the concept of log in vs. public usernames. Most people's names have been converted to their public name. Try that and let me know if there's still an issue.

I'll be looking into hacking the board to allow separate public names, but for now that's the way it is.

I haven't finished any of the CSS. This is not how it'll be when it opens. Right now just assume it'll get done by the time we switch over and then if it's not please let me know.

I looked for Search features yesterday to make changes and haven't found where that's at yet. I'm still learning how to deal with PHP and databases, so hopefully it'll not be too bad when we go live.

Sorry! This site is experiencing technical difficulties.
Try waiting a few minutes and reloading.

(Can't contact the database server: User legionwo_wikiuse already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections (localhost))

Looks like it may be a plain-and-simple capacity issue, since nuLWorld and LWiki share a database, yes? That bodes ill...

Okay, that box in the top right is... big. It looks like it's intended for use with a great big ad banner to its left, which leaves a LOT of dead space there (gone from 80px to the bottom of the blue bar to 177px. When you're on a netbook, that makes a BIG difference). Is there any need for the avatar in particular to be there?

 -

Also, it takes away the link to the settings page (usercp.php), let alone one that doesn't require a dropdown to get to.

And while I'm moaning giving feedback [Wink] , going from 60 PM threads of up to 21 posts to 50 PM posts is a big drop!
