The new HBO series, True Blood, debuted tonight. A vampire story set in Louisiana by the creators of "Six Feet Under". It stars Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress at a local bar where a lot of the action takes place. Vampires started to "come out of the coffin" a couple of years ago when the Japenese perfected synthetic blood. A small Louisiana town gets its first vampire. There is a murder, a lot of fun characters, and some sex. I think this is going to be a hit. Did anyone else see it? What did you think?

I've been curious about this series for awhile especially when I found out the lovely and talented Miss Paquin would be playing a role. It didn't hurt that advertising for it was a large presence at SDCC this year.

As for the premiere episode I quite enjoyed it and I think it's off to a good start. I can't wait to watch the next episode.

Anna Paquin was great. HBO typically does a good job with casting, and this show is no exception

They really did have a lot of advertising for this at Comic Con; I thought most of it was fairly witty (particularly the fake ads for the synthetic blood). I also got one of the free comics they were giving away.

I missed the first episode, but I'm curious to see if it's available on On Demand.

like what i saw so far but i'm having trouble accepting Anna,..there's something about her,..could be her aweful accent that irks me. but i'm gonna watch the show every sunday or at least try to catch it on HBO on demand,..gotta love cable.

The second episode was great too. I'm going to be totally addicted to this show. I'm guessing that the Comptons and Stackhouses have a relationship that goes back generations -- perhaps Bill was married to an ancestor of Sookie?

Lots of great lines, lots of suspense, it looks like we're going to get to see Jason naked almost every episode, and the trio of Vampires in the final scene were just plain fun.

To someone like me, a vampire junkie, we've been reading these books for ten years or so and loving them. It's wonderful that someone besides Anne Rice gets a chance at a television hit series on HBO. Anne could never give up creative control to give HBO or anybody an opportunity to bring her characters to life on the small screen like this. Charlene Harris is, to me, a wonderful author and a witty, gorgeous BBW (big beautiful woman) who must be in 7th heaven with the success of True Blood.

The series is being right on faithful to the books, so far, and I can't see them changing that. The set decoration and costuming and 'feel' are so genuine you can almost smell the gumbo, beer, cigarette smoke and even the blood. The actors are so quirky and interesting and compelling that its very satisfying. With Anna's teeth left imperfect, and her haunted past as a telepath/empath, she brings Sookie to life for me. And I think that Bill is being portrayed perfectly as well. He is having such a hard time fitting into the modern world, and you catch his Civil War era mannerisms and ideology. ANd Jerry, you are onto something [Wink]

The hardest thing for me so far is that the wonderful character actress playing Sookie's grandmother (she also played Aunt Meg in 'Twister') looks and acts very similar to my own dear mother. With the one year anniversary of mom's death coming up shortly, and knowing the fate of Sookie's granny, it is hard to watch. Scott and I both looked at each other and remarked during the first show that it was like having mom back with us watching that character.

I really enjoyed the sparkle Sookie's grandmother got in her eyes when she talked with Bill. You know that she has been raised her whole life with the misconception that the 'War of Northern Aggression' was very necessary and romantic and that the South was wronged. She is so eager to hear from a first hand source that her family ancestors and family associates and neighbors were all valient heroes. You can see Bill struggling with the truth, and yet being totally charmed by this fiesty old woman. Not to mention that he would do anything in the world for Sookie.

Oh I really want this series to take off and succeed! I want it to be the surprise hit that it is shaping up to be! And it's coming at the right time of year too, fall is vampire season after all [Smile] Take it from someone with a vampire bite tattoo, this show has fangs!!!

Yeah, Gran is great. According to her HBO bio her name is Lois Smith and she made her first movie with James Dean.

Keep me posted, guys. I'm already planning to get the DVD set.

I don't get HBO unfortunately, but hope to catch the DVDs when they come out. I'm a big fan of the books [Smile]

Wow. Stunner of an ending for tonight's episode. Aside from that, being able to see how Bill became a vampire was quite compelling. It also seems that parts of the series are developing a bit of a Twin Peaks feel. That's a good thing.

Posted by THE LABRADORIAN on :

Is it poosible that Bill's creator is the one doing all the killing?

Posted by THE LABRADORIAN on :

oh wait, too much blood, bill said no vampire could resist it so it couldnt be a vampire.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

So I caught the first few episodes. So far I'm...meh. I like some of it but a lot of it leaves me flat.

I love Anna Paquin, and in fact, all the actors are great (especially both cops), but it didn't leave me as wowwed as some other HBO/Showtime shows (Rome, Deadwood, Dexter). I love the horror genre, and vampires specifically, so maybe I just have to get used to this type of setting/groundwork of vampires being so casually accepted and being served Type-O blood at bars.

I did really enjoy seeing Bill's history from the Civil War explored. I love in vampire fiction when a character's pre-Vampire past is explored, especially when its far in the past but still in cultural memory. It lays a strong groundwork for tragedy, and I thought this was brillantly done here, both actor-wise and pacing/story wise.

I'm on the fence still.

The season finale aired Sunday-- anyone still watching?

I liked this series quite a bit. I'm glad that I *hadn't* read the books yet, as I'm pretty sure whatever liberties were taken would bug me. As a rule, I like to see movies of books first, then read the book. That way the potential's there to enjoy both.

Anyway, if nothing else, TRUE BLOOD has one of the best theme songs in quite awhile.

On the whole, I find myself much more curious about Sam and the 'shifters' than the vampires (though the 'sheriff' and his droll deputy are more entertaining than Bill, IMO).

The actress playing Tara should get nominated for an Emmy.

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

Big downside-- the mystery resolution wasn't exactly the greatest.

Posted by Saturn Girl on :

During the series I have re-read all nine Charlene Harris books. I can tell you that the first book ends with the resolution of the killer's identity and the second book opens up with the discovery of Lafayette's body in Detective Bellefleur's patrol car. So they are going to start up the second season on the second book. I am so absolutely in love with this series!!!!! Yet it is taking liberties with the book, changing things around and adding things probably for the sake of television. But it is staying close enough to follow.

Secret guilty pleasure, imagining Sookie and Tara together.............

Posted by Spellbinder on :

I haven't seen this yet (no HBO), but hope to see it on DVD at some point.

It seems that many series based on books take some liberties. They use the books as a starting point, and then modify as needed. The Blood Ties series was like that.

i love this show, however this thread doesnt say spoilers, now i understand the show is over and now people are talking about it, my fault if i see something i dont want to know about. But PLEASE dont discuss the books, i know that was lafayettees body in the car but i was holding out hope it wasnt, but thanks to someone who read the books i now know its him.

and how the hell did tara find out Sookie was attacked if she was at ensign ro's house and the creepy man servant hid her phone? How the hell would she know about it?

Just a note to hardcore True Blood fans..... I just found out that the 'behind the scenes,' the 'making of,' and the 14 different three minute interviews with various cast members will only be available until December 21st. This is the stuff mentioned at the beginning of the season and in the first couple episodes. Online at the HBO website.

Gee Labradorian, sorry about spoiling your day. But, um, on whom else in Bon Temps would you find long, shapley, well manicured, fire engine red polished toes on an African American male? When they showed the painted toenails that was a total giveaway...... But okay, if I ever talk about the show again here I will play the spoilers alert card.

Has anyone been watching the second season of True Blood, its been totally fantastic, the first 3 episodes were verrrrrrrry good and left you eagerly awaiting the next episode. I wont get into what happened just yet for spoilers sake, but i have really enjoyed this season so far.

I agree that the second season has been loads of fun- though it's already taking a break? I think and hope it's just for one week.

I know you hadn't read the novels during the first season, Labradorian. Have you since then?

I won't spoil anything, but I will say that the TV series and novels are now so different that one could discuss the events in one without necessarily spoiling the other.

Still a risk of spoilerage, I suppose, since you never know when elements from the books will be adapted whole cloth for the series.

They're like parallel universes, really.

Seeing Lafayette locked up in the dungeon was a sigh of relief for me, i like his character and to throw that away after the first season would have been a waste. I loved the dungeon scenes, eric ripping apart one of the captives which was a crazy scene.
I wonder what the story with Daphne is, and what the hell was that thing that attacked sookie and apparantly at some point Daphne. I think the creature was Ensign Ro, cant remember her name at the moment

They let him live????????? Yay! I was really disappointed when he was killed in the books, and I was hoping they'd make a change for the show. Hopefully they won't cut out the "gay" Eric in lycra scene, though. Eric's so much fun in the books.

I haven't seen any of the tv series yet. Is it out on dvd? I just ordered the newest book from the SFBC.

If any True Blood fans are over on Twitter, they have a fansite where a group of very talented people, writers, are roleplaying a constant soap opera as characters from True Blood. Check out the goings-on of the whole gang, it's very well done. Yours truly plays one of the regular cast, and life is always exciting in Bon Temps. Our biggest honor so far, aside from hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers, is that HBO thinks we are doing such a good job that they recommend us on their website for the show!

Just a little bit of True Blood trivia, well I thought this was interesting... I have found two characters from True Blood on old episodes of Two and a Half Men. In the unaired pilot for Two and a Half Men, and in the pilot (after they'd changed the actress playing the mother,) the actress who plays Pam on True Blood, plays 'Laura' who is dating Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen.) In a much later Two and a Half Men, the actress who plays Jane Bodehouse on True Blood, plays Jake's teacher while he reads an embarrassing essay to his class.

HUGE FAN.

We rented Season 1 shortly after its DVD release, and I fell in love. Pitched a hissy until we got HBO added to our cable, right before Season 2's premiere. Didn't take much though, as the bf loved it too.

Today's USA TODAY's front page includes a little tease about Sunday's 4th S2 episode, calling it the "true" start to season 2.

I've also decided to read all the books. It'll be at least a couple weeks before I start 'em though.

Hoyt's dreamy-- I hope jessica, whom I also love, didn't kill his mom...

Sookie rules, as always, and I now officially like Tara's mom.

Agreed on all fronts. Jason playing the god was funny, sexy, and dramatic all at the same time. Jessica cracks me up.

Season two has come to an end. This was really over the top television. I was glued to the tube. Cliffhangers galore.

Posted by Arachne on :

Bah! You cares about cliffhangers. Did Eric wear the pink and aqua lycra?

Posted by Jerry on :

No pink and aqua lycra. Eric's best moments are when he gazes at the camera with those all too sexy eyes as blood drips from his lips, oozes from the sides of his mouth, and down his chin. That's mostly in the ads, though.

Posted by Arachne on :

Too bad. At the end of the second book he wears the lycra and pretends he's gay at an orgie Sookie takes him to. (Not nearly as scandalous as that sounds.) It was hilarious.

I like the show, but there are sOOOOOO many ANNOYING characters...

Maryanne was SO annoying... thank space THAT'S over with. I find the Vampire queen annoying (I prefer Jessica!!!)... Andy Bellefleur? ANNOYING. That muliple-times glamoured blonde chick that works at Fangtasia? Annoying but hilarious. [Smile]

Jason Stackhouse, however, is just precious.

I love the tapestry of characters. Can't wait to start Season 2! I'm not really a big Bill fan but I love all the other characters...

Posted by Mattropolis on :

OK, I just finished Season 2! I am soooo glad that Maryanne is gone.

Poor Sam! I wonder where his journey will lead him?

And just when I think Jason has redeemed himself, something happens to drag him right back down. How will he deal with what he did?

And Tara?!! Out of all of the main characters, she is the one who has grown the most. I hope she can lean on her mama (yes Lash, I agree she is fantastic!), she really needs it right now.

I know the story is mostly about Sookie and I do like her. She just has what I call the "scarlet Witch" syndrome. EVERYONE wants her or wants to be her. It turned me off Wanda Maximoff and it is off-putting here too.

And really, I don't like Bill at all. I much prefer Eric. Bill professes to love Sookie and yet, he is NEVER there when she needs him, which in my opinion, makes him look weak.

Naked Jason AND naked Eric. No wonder, I'm addicted to this show...

Hoyt and Jason as roommates! This is going to be a fun season. Everyone seems to have something interesting going on. It's turning into a great ensemble cast.

ALL SPOILERS FROM HERE......

IT WAS FANTASTIC. Anyone else as shocked by/turned on by that scene between Sam and Bill? Totally caught me off guard... of course it was a dream brought on by the vampire blood
Sam ingested in season 2 to save his life, but how uncomfortable for a straight man must that be to be having sex dreams about a guy? I think the psychological impact bears exploration.

I was MAD AS HELL at Bill with the lil old lady Olivia, but then it flipped and was so SWEET it brought a tear to my eye.

I was glad Jessica had remorse over the trucker. I adore her.

Hoyt is LOVE. Big, hot, sooo sexy-but-doesn't-know it, puppy-eyed LOVE. He and Jason as roomies was hysterical.

Lettie Mae!! I'm glad she's doing right by Tara. Tara's suicide attempt enraged me.

This looks to be a GREAT season!

Posted by Jerry on :

The Sam and Bill twist was not expected. They also both seem a little more buffed up this season. As does Hoyt. Nice haircut.

Jessica and Sookie make a good team. I hope Tara gets over her grief and anger pretty quickly, though. She was kind of out of it all last season. I miss the more confident, smart mouthed Tara from the first season.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Yeah I never really thought Sam or Bill were all-that hot (I was more into Eric, Hoyt and Jason), but now I've changed my mind. Their little scene was, ummm... yeah. They're hot.

Yeah, Tara's losing me as a fan. Lettie Mae's character has surpassed her in my eyes. Layfayette is as fun as ever, however.

Sookie and Jessica DO make a good team.

Posted by Mattropolis on :

I do like Sam, but his quest this season doesn't interest me yet. Bill has never been all that interesting to me.

Jason and Hoyt as roomies was hysterical!

Lettie Mae IS a great character. I do think she had ulterior motives for helping out though. But that is what makes her Lettie Mae.

And Pam is love. She makes me want to wear pink.

And... Here come the werewolves!

Posted by THE LABRADORIAN on :

Pam: Are you picking up what I'm putting down?
Lafayette: I is

my favourite part.

Posted by MLLASH on :

THAT WAS A THRILLRIDE! TRUE BLOOD SPOILERS....

Like: Tara AKA Punch-Girl! Worried she's going down another nutty path though. Terry, he's sweet. Ditto Hoyt. Jason on the Police? i think it would work. Layfayette telling Tara to grow up.

DISlike: Once again, Bill is held hostage. First Sophie-Anne then Lorena now the Mississippi king. DID enjoy him burning the crap out of Lorena, I hate her. Once again, someone just walks into Sookie's house. First the serial killer, then MaryAnne, now the werewolves. I think it's time to move, Sooks.

?s: What happend to Jessica's corpse? Could he have risen? It does take 3 days, right? Am intrigued by the whole Sam's family thing. I'd like to see him and his bro be pals but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

Posted by Jerry on :

Lots of good lines again:

Sookie: It's 5:00 am. What are you doing eating my chicken in the dark?

Sookie (after Terry asks if she knows how to use the gun): I'm not that blond.

The Mississippi king's partner (before the main course): Drain the Thai boy.

Interesting menu all the way round. Carbonated citrus flavored blood. Rose petal blood bisque.

Okay, not just werewolves, but Nazi werewolves. Cool twist.

Nice to see Godric in the flashback. I hope he comes back to life.

I think Tara has turned the corner. Loved Lafayette's pep talk. Plus she has a new vampire friend. Good for her.

Sam's brother is kind of cute. How many hot guys can be on one show? The sky's the limit, I guess.

I'm so glad that Jason and Sookie cleaned her house before the werewolves got in. That mess was getting on my nerves.

Tonight's episode had a heavy emphasis on drama and danger. Not a lot of humor. Intense and frightening...

Posted by Mattropolis on :

Thoughts from tonight.

Erik and Sookie are HOT together.

As are Tara and her new man! But he has a hold on her that I don't like. Didn't we just go through that with MaryAnne? Tara also goes to Eggs funeral where no one shows but her. And Sookie. Tara and Sookie reconcile, YAY!

Sam and his new brother. I'm not real thrilled with this story. And Bill bores the living hell out of me. It did make me sad seeing him bury his son.

Pam cracks me up... As does lafayette.

Jason as a cop? Heh! Good to see him and Tara bonding again.

Arlene confirms her pregnancy. She is further along than she thinks.

The Bill - Lorena scene at the end... Uh.. Gross.

Alcide is HOT HOT HOT!

Posted by Jerry on :

Could it be that Alcide is the hottest man on the show yet? How is that even possible?

I'm not sure of the timing between seasons. Is the implication that the father of Arlene's baby is Rene?

Jerry, I was wondering the same thing.

Either that, or it happened during the "parties" at Maryanne's. That seems to have just happened though, so my guess is yes.

Posted by Mattropolis on :

I know that the books revolve around Sookie, but I really don't find her as interesting as I do the other characters. I wish that Alcide would fall for Tara.

Posted by Jerry on :

The show has certainly evolved with its growing cast, and so many fun characters. Sookie is still the show's heart, to me. Anna Paquin's just perfect in the role. She's not a typical beauty, and she makes mistakes. She has a good heart and never backs down from a fight. I loved the scene in the second episode when she told Eric not to underestimate her, and he responded that she shouldn't underestimate herself and how important her safety is. He nailed it.

Posted by Mattropolis on :

I guess the best comparison I have is that she reminds me of how the Scarlet Witch used to be played in Avengers. Everyone either wants her or wants to kill her.

It bored me with Wanda and it bores me with Sookie.

Posted by Jerry on :

Okay, I'm scared for Pam. With so many new characters, there are bound to be some deaths this season. She's in a precarious situation.

Good for Arlene for finally giving it to Sam about her workload. Sookie hasn't worked a full shift in two seasons, Sam's always off somewhere, Tara's off to Mississippi, and Lafeyette is out selling vampire blood. Plus, the last two new waitresses got killed The girl needs someone she can depend on. Jessica? Right. This should be fun.

Bill I am really done with. I despise Lorena and that Mississippi king who is also in cahoots with those scumbag werewolves.

Sam's family is going to be nothing but trouble although I hold out hope he and his brother can be friends in the end.

Arlene and Jessica I am looking forward to. I wish we could have seen the followup to Hoyt watching Jessica glamour her old Church friend.

I am still a fan, but I can't believe no one is calling out this show for its repetitive storylines:

1. Bill always being someone's captive (Lorena, Queen Sophie-Ann, the Mississippi King and Lorena again)

2. Sookie's house getting broken into/taken over (Rene, Maryanne, the werewolf, the new British vampire)

3. Tara someone's mental captive (Maryanne, the new British vampire)

Posted by Jerry on :

I've been thinking of a way that repetitive story lines might work to our advantage. How many people have been killed in the parking lot of Merlot's? Sam's parents are really irritating. They were planning to spend the night in their RV thingie in the parking lot. Seems like the perfect opportunity....

Posted by Mattropolis on :

If each season ends with a dead body at Merlot's I will be happy.

However, I do agree with Lash about Bill. I was never a fan anyway, but now he just gave up (pretty easily IMO) and will probably except Sookie to return to him once he extricated himself from this mess.

I can't decide about Tara and Franklin. I know its wrong the way he treats her but I find it kinda hot.

Alcide does make me like Sookie more. He brings out a rougher side of her that is very very welcome.

Jessica had some great line!

Layfayette and Eric have great chemistry together! And poor Pam! Somebody save her!

Posted by Jerry on :

Love is in the air.

Lafayette and Jesus are a good match.

Jason's new girlfriend is a pretty mystery.

Terry and Arlene happy at last?

Tara playing hard to get for all the right reasons.

Hoyt on a date, but not with Jessica.

Speaking of Jessica. Great scene where she glamoured the customers into not giving Arlene a tip. Funny.

I babbled forever about this episode last night on Facebook but for the record, here...

THIS episode was better than any in Season 2 and shows Season 3 kicking into HIGH GEAR. Loved every minute, especially:

TARA deciding to play Franklin, then that taking a horriffic turn...

JESUS and LAYFAYETTE ("It's only 9 hours...")

TOMMY flirts with JESSICA (I like him, but what is the DEAL with the Mom and Dad? they are effed up royally and I hate them).

TALBOT smitten with ERIC (I feel your longing, Talbie...)

JASON the shirtless police-trainee brat, JESSICA the hypno-brat, ALCIDE and SOOKIE's chemistry, BILL finally growing some nads...

This season is coming together nicely for me!

Posted by Mattropolis on :

I still don't like Bill. I don't think I ever will. But Tara is amazing.

Jesus and Lafayette make me smile.

Sam's parents creep me out. I want them gone.

Talbot, like everyone else I know, wants Eric.

Sookie with Alcide makes me like her a little.

I hate that we didn't get to see any of Pam last night.

Arlene and Terry are the down to earth couple amidst all the crazie crap.

And what did Sookie do at the end?

Posted by Mattropolis on :

And Franklin MOtt is a whiny vampire. He should be no match for my girl Tara,

Some mysterious hidden powers hinted at last season.... Stay tuned.

Posted by Mattropolis on :

Wonder if Jason shared them?

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

Yeah, Crystal's quite a fox, isn't she?

About Sookie's powers- I kind of hope they deviate from their origins in the book, or that they take a weirder turn, since that was a bit of plotting that marked a decrease in my overall enjoyment of the series. Some fun characters do make their way onto the Bon Temps scene due to them, however.

I kind of hope Tara *does* become a vamp, but I don't think she will.

I think the King of Mississippi is hilarious, myself. The Nazi werewolves are like something out of Captain America story.

Posted by Mattropolis on :

See I don't think Crystal is interesting or very attractive.

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

Mystery Lad is sly!

Sookie's powers... I was also wondering if that could possibly be <SEMI-SPOILER INFO FROM BOOKS FOLLOWS>

Click Here For A SpoilerClaudine-aided? Or, less likely but perhaps even better considering the company, Claude?

Pam wears sunglasses on her head because she's hilarious. But why was Russell wearing sunglasses (on his face) at Lou Pine's?

Very gory and gruesome episode. This one had me on the edge of my seat...

Posted by Mattropolis on :

A few things: Some spoilers follow

Lorena torturing Bill. The cat and mouse game these two play takes a most... gruesome turn. I don't really care what happens to Bill, but the torture he suffered was horrendous.

Jason - he's not very interesting this season. I wish that there was more to his story than a girl that can't act and wanting to be a cop.

Tara - WOW! If Jason has lost something this season, Tara has made up for it in spades! Her rescue of Sookie was amazing to behold. The character has come full circle and I hope the trend continues.

Lafayette - He finally gets a man. And then loses him. His career choices have seemingly cost him his shot at happiness. Is Jesus really through with him? I hope not.

Sam and his brother - Finally, the story takes an interesting turn and we find out what's really going on with them.

Sookie also continues her trend of being stronger than in the past. She helps Tara during the rescue and finda Bill. And Lorena. Let's just say Sookie doesn't fare well in their encounter.

Jessica continues to toy with her vampire powers. She seems to revel in them, so I wonder where that will lead?

Eric spends most of the episode dealing with the vampire king and his consort. And then he has an interesting encounter with the Queen, at the Mississippi King's behest.

Just watched last night's episode ON DEMAND.

Thought it continued the uphill trend for this season, good stuff.

LOVED Tara kickin' ass and not bothering to take names.

I hope Arlene and Jessica become friends... Arlene got all my laughs this episode.

Tommy is a DOGFIGHTER??? You're telling me that's the ONLY WAY they could think of to use their shifting to make money??? For that matter, get a job at Wal-Mart. Dumbasses. I officially hate Sam's family (but there may yet be hope for Tommy).

Can't wait for the Mississippi King to get his come-uppance. Eric is playing him like a fiddle.

LOVED the opening when Bill killed the vampire guard and ALMOST got the King himself.

WHOA-- these past 3 weeks have been GOLDEN for TRUE BLOOD!!!

TONIGHT WAS AWESOME!!!

I wholeheartedly approve of the three cuts to the cast made tonight!!!! I wish Alcide had made a 4th cut and Sam had made a 5th and 6th though...

I wholeheartedly approve of Tara's return to kickassery!

I missed Arlene and Jessica, but Hoyt and Jason goofing off shirtless almost made up for it...

SOOOOOOO much better than season 2!!

Posted by Jerry on :

Three villains eliminated in one episode. That's moving things forward. Lorena was a great villain and it was nice that they did the little "best of" clips after the credits.

Tara is back to full strength. It was nice to see Tara, Jason, and Lafayette together at the hospital, kind of taking the series back to its roots.

And hooray, Pam gets saved. How did you know I was a Tiffany's girl?

Posted by MLLASH on :

I do not like Russell at all but I ***LOVE*** how he is kicking ASS. I knew a certain someone was going to be toast... love it.

Posted by Mattropolis on :

OMG WOW!

Sookie's little hallucination was interesting. I wonder if she will begin to shift her feeling away from Bill now. Especially with Alcide and Eric both waiting in the wings.

The three deaths tonight were all welcomed and will help thin the cast out for the rest of the season.

Pam! the Queen! Both had great lines!

I also don't care for Russell, but at least he takes no prisoners.

Loved Tara, Jason and LaFayette together and Jason reluctantly agreeing to let Bill help.

I'm fine with the show diverging from the books...it keeps you guessing, for one thing. This portrayal of Claudine, however, is very disappointing to me. I was looking forward to the lively, fun-loving, works-at-Dillard's lass (who also kicks some ass), not the boringly ethereal hippie-dippie chick who lives in Cornyland. (Gawd, I hate to think what they'd do now with Claude.) And that whole "steal your light" thing makes me think of that Friends episode where the girls are all reading that self-help book about people "stealing your wind". (And the cave on Lost. Oy.)

Posted by Mattropolis on :

Since I haven't heard the books, I can't compare.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Me either, but Sooks may yet encounter the Claudine you like, Teeds...

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

It's not impossible, I suppose, given that Sookie was in very bad shape and likely drug-addled when she had the dream or whatever exactly that was.

How about that Terry Bellefleur, though? What a doll. I was a little skeptical at first about him being played for comic relief at times, but then most everyone except Sookie is. Well, her too, if you count that bandanna-print dress she wore in Dallas. Ouch.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Oh I think Sooks gets her share of laughs.

TERRY is LOVE of course.

i think his and Hoyt's... umm, natural assets... are greatly underrated.

Posted by Mattropolis on :

As it stands right now, Claudine's introduction reminds me a lot of MaryAnne

WHOA. GAYEST. TRUE BLOOD. EVER.

Loved it. And the cast is whittled down some more, fun!

Although I will NEVER EVER forgive Sookie for not pulling the trigger after you know who kicked her door in.

I missed the first part so will have to catch up in a couple hours...

A transitional episode in a lot of ways. Lots of gore this season. Jessica totally rocked tonight. Sookie's house is a mess again. Damn.

Posted by MLLASH on :

I can't tell you how much the constant wrecking of Sookie's house is bothering me.

For me, after that last bite of pecan pie was gone (a scene I still cannot watch without tearing up) in season one, the house became symbolic of Gran. LOVED Gran. CAN'T STAND and want to DESTROY anything that hurts the house/Gran.

Oh and yes, tonight's Jessica more than made up for last week's Jessica-free episode. Also, I now officially adore Tommy... what a li'l badass. [Smile]

So I finally watched the rest of last night's episode.

SPOILERS APLENTY

Tara's experience with Franklin got rid of her death wish! However, she is still dreaming about him, so I am not sure exactly where that's leading. It was nice seeing her and Sam bond, however.

Jason is being a fool. There is something about Crystal that I cannot stand.

Russell and Debbie go after Sookie. Jessica, with her cute little wave, going after the vampire was adorable.

As far as Bill and Sookie at the end, bluh.

And poor Talbot had to pay for Russell's sins. But at least he got to spend some quality time with Eric before Eric staked him.

Arlene telling Sam not to sleep with the new waitress was priceless! And Arlene's vision of Rene' was suitably creepy.

You have the Library of Vampire Congress in your house and I'm bored, take off your clothes is your best come-on? Werewolves could do better, Talbot. Werewolves.

Jessica and Bill: Wayne and Garth. Excellent. Next up: a Queen tape and Sookie's car, I'm sure.

What is "bluh"? There's one Bill/Sookie scene from book 3 I'm waiting to see if they do, but I don't think it would get a "bluh".

Very vaguely book-spoilerish, but mostly a TV recap:

Here's info I've heard from various sources. I'll veil exact details. Some stuff will only be clear if you've read the books anyway. You've been warned!

The seven-letter word that starts with A has been mentioned (in the press, not in the show).

Hallow is being cast.

Holly debuted in the most recent episode.

As mentioned in this thread, Jason is getting entangled with Hotshot.

I believe I've heard that Alcide has been added to the regular cast.

I notice you said "books" when refering to your love/hate relationship with Crystal, is that to imply she will stick around, i know the show may do her differently but if she is a character that sticks around for a few seasons i kinda consider that a spoiler.
I know people want to compare the book, but come on, not all of us have read the books and i am just speaking for myself, i dont need to see comparisons between the books and the show...it leads to possible spoilers.
But thats me.

Well I thought it was just a kinda more laid back episode UNTIL THE LAST.

HOW ABOUT THAT $#!T?!?!? And Tiffany, I'm still waiting on that weather report.

Tommy, quit being a jerk.

I enjoyed seeing Sam kick ass.

Crystal is on my nerves. I'm officially over her and the Hotshot drama freakshow.

Tara's nemesis met his end in truly sensational fashion.

Awwww, Jess and Hoyt need to be together.

My initial reaction: I like Holly. I'll bet all you book-readers are snickering because she's probably Satan's mistress or soemthing.

I'll always like Arlene... she's like the only NORMAL person on the show.

AND DID I MENTION THE END YET?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Posted by Mattropolis on :

This show was amazing once again.

Tara kept her dignity even if she wasn't the one to defeat Franklin.

And Russell just blew me away.

Agree about Jess and Hoyt.

I also like Holly but like Lash, I have to wonder what her deal is.

And I am glad that someone else dislikes Crystal as much as I have.

Sam kicked ass.

And I agree about Arlene. The same could be said about Terry!

Sizzling episode.

Tommy is taking over as the series bad boy in a big way.

Great scenes with Jesus, Lafayette and his mother.

Hadley's son is new twist.

Thumbs up for Jessica and Hoyt. Hopefully a reunion is on the way.

I'm not getting all the dislike for Crystal. I like the character and the actress reminds me of a young Jodie Foster.

Jason with wooden bullets.

The ending was totally over the top and riveting. This series has had some great performances by the actors playing the villains. Russell's televised rant was powerful television. Go HBO.

Posted by Mattropolis on :

Re Crystal:

I find the character to be trashy. And not in an endearing way.

I find the actress is not very strong and barely able to pull it off.

But if you enjoy her, more power to you. I just think Jason could and should do better.

Posted by MLLASH on :

I'm over Crystal and Hotshot because it is obvious the whole place is full of werewolves or shifters, I'm leaning toward werewolves.

I'm tired of trashy-ass werewolves.

note: Alcide is not trashy-ass. He can stay. [Smile]

yeah, Terry is normal *and I like him a lot!* BUT remember, he's a smidge unbalanced from the war... I'm not sure how he's going to take this Arlene's baby business...

Posted by Jerry on :

Oh, I think they're shifters. I guess I just have a thing for trashy ass shifters (see my earlier comments re: Tommy). Amazing what this show teaches us about ourselves...

Posted by Mattropolis on :

Agree about Alcide about 200%.

And that is true about Terry. I think he may surprise us though.

Posted by MLLASH on :

re: Tommy

Now I think Tommy's about the cutest li'l trashy thing there is... POSSIBLY even, and I don't say this lightly, the cutest dude on the show now... just wish he'd not be such an ass ALL the time, especially to Sam.

I think the look on Tommy's face said a lot after he watched Sam kick Crystal's dad's ass... I am *hoping* it is new-found respect.

I mean, even I felt a little uncomfortable when Tommy invited Sam to 'party' with him and that girl... and I'm far from a prude.

I just hope Tommy settles down a bit and acts nicer where Sam is concerned.

Granted, Russell got to get prime-time batshit crazy, but this was all about Pam & Eric.

Once Ruby Jean blesses the Jell-O at Shady Pines Shreveport (or whatever), perhaps she can lay hands on that candy jar R.E. is now lugging around. (Yeesh!)

Ginger and Rosie, you are welcome to have a Shriek-Off, but please wait until I am completely deaf. Thank you.

There's Claudine again, still in Cheeseballville. This is through Bill's eyes, so it's not just near-death Sookie's construction. Unless he's high or something, I guess, but even Talbot noted that Bill is un-round.

A lot happened tonight. Very intense and disturbing episode. Huge developments for just about everybody. Most notable, though, was Ryan Kwanten's performance. Yes, Jason's been our favorite pretty boy for two and a half seasons. He's provided some great comedy relief and lots of beefcake. Tonight, he broke through as a serious dramatic actor. It was something to watch.

Posted by Mattropolis on :

Tonight was good!

Sometimes I wonder if Bill and Eric should be the couple and leave Sookie for Alcide...

Russell really is gullible...

Tara standing up to Sam when no one else would was completely in character. It looks like Tara got closure about Eggs and can move on to whatever she will do in Season 4.

Pam is a hoot as always.

I fear for Hoyt. Is he going to become a vampire now? Jessica will never forgive herself if she hurts him.

I still hate trashy Crystal.

And Lafayette looks to be taking center stage... Bout damn time.

Lastly, I hope Arlene hasn't bitten off more than she can chew. Right now, Holly is looking (story wise) a lot like Maryanne did when she first came on. Hopefully the story will take a different turn.

I think Season 3 has been the best yet.

We have:

Tara's braids and possibly her character gone byebye.

Jason as king of Inbredville.

Sookie vanished to Fairyland.

Layfayette and Jesus the brujo bois.

Eric and Pam washing cement out of their hair.

Terry hysterical with joy and Arlene still miserably preggers.

Hoyt and Jessica moving in together, but Hoyt's not-right Mama buying a gun.

Sam AKA No More Mr. Niceguy possibly gunning down illiterate Tommy.

The Queen vs. Bill in one of the cheesiest flying effects since 'Plan 9 From Outer Space'.

Lettie Mae cheating with a minister.

Russell wrapped in silver and encased in cement.

Ghostly Godric issuing advice.

A lot went on. I'm officially not a fan of this 'Summers-only' deal. I vote for 6-ep summer and 6-ep winter runs instead. The 9 month wait is cruel.

I just finished season three on HBO Go.

They really ended a lot of characters on a cliffhanger this time!

The plot dumb is strong (characters walking into the same situation over and over and over again, despite it having been explained to them season after season that this never works), but I get that it's easier to write 'plot dumb' protagonists who walk blindly into danger (often completely unarmed / unprepared, and loudly announcing their presence, necessitating some big strong supernatural person to come rescue their fool self, again, and again) than clever antagonists who lure them in or plan ahead.

I like how they've played around with their own supernatural mythology, with the silver chains and the V and the revocation of invitation concepts. That's neat.

Jason, Sooki and, previously, Tara, seem to have been in some sort of competition for who could most actively and destructively mess up their own lives, and get people around them hurt (and, more than once, killed) by their impulsive and selfish decisions.

Tara seems to have been pulling her life together, now that she's realized that it was never as bad as she thought it was, until Franklin. On the one hand, she's pretty and fun, and I wouldn't want her to leave the show. On the other hand, if the character of Tara never came back to Bon Temps, I could feel good for her, that she got out before the town ate her up, as it has so many others. If she does return, I would hate for the character growth she's shown to be abandoned to throw her back into the same old self-destructive self-pitying routine she's was trapped in for the first two seasons. (While she certainly wasn't roses and sunshine in season three, she had a much more legitimate reason to be messed up, at this point.)

Jason has turned everything handed to him to utter crap, through his entitled self-interest, and the show has made a point of showing him get this funny smile on his face just before he's about to do something *colossally* stupid. At the Hotspot, with all those people depending on him, he didn't get that wide-eyed twisted smile look of his, which I really hope means that he's finally gotten a clue, and that he isn't going to do something selfish and stupid and get all those people hurt or killed...

Sooki, I've pretty much given up on. Bill, Eric and / or Sam come running whenever she gets herself into yet another steaming mess by doing what she was warned not to do, what any *sane person* wouldn't have done, and it only encourages her to keep doing it. She's been pretty much trained to do the wrong thing, and that *something* will happen to rescue her, at this point. It's like the *character* knows that her actress has more seasons contracted, and can't possibly die, that only other lesser characters will suffer for her actions. I can't blame Sooki at this point, since it's just crap writing that has her make these choices, and some superperson show up to save her, yet again, but, by the same measure, I can't admire the character for being a bonehead.

It's interesting that the most stable 'rocks' of the show, Sam and Bill, are both being deconstructed / dirtied up a bit, in this season. Both have been very dependable, and, of all the characters on the show, have seemed the less 'damaged' or prone to erratic plot-furthering crazyflakes behavior, and now we are finding out stuff about them that throws that into question.

In some ways, I like that the writers are mixing things up. In other ways, I want at least *some* characters on the show to not be raving psychos. If everybody is so 'quirky' and overwrought and eccentric, it looks less like a community and more like a carnival of drug-crazed weirdos...

Part of me prefers villains like Mary Anne, for the reason that they tend to at least be enjoying their time on screen, instead of constantly crying or suffering or being in the middle of some romantic melodrama. Goddrick was also refreshing, because he was so darned calm all the time. Despite being a 2000 year old bringer of death, he was very zen, very centered, and it was nice to see a character who wasn't flipping out or overreacting to every little thing.

I'm kinda hoping that Sam doesn't go so 'dark' that he killed Tommy with that gunshot.

I'm kinda hoping that Jason manages to not screw up this responsibility dumped in his lap.

I'm kinda expecting Hoyt's momma to attempt to kill Jessica, and end up shooting Hoyt instead. Maybe Jessica will turn him. Maybe she won't be able to, and he'll just be dead, and Hoyt's momma will go even further around the bend, having not only driven her husband to suicide, but now having murdered her son, and desperately needing to blame it on the darn vampires, rather than admit that it's all her fault.

I'm really hoping that an extremely rare thing, seen this season, people actually *talking to each other* and *telling each other stuff,* will continue. (Sam telling Tara he's a shifter. Sooki telling Jason how to revoke a vampires invitation. Jason telling Sooki and Tara about shooting Eggs. Tara confronting Andy Bellefleur about Eggs, and him confessing how it really happened. Mostly important things, that saved a lot of drawn out drama that had been strung out over one or more *seasons,* that was making the show hard to watch, since half of the plotlines were utterly stuck within the two or three characters who knew about them, making the it like watching multiple unrelated shows about total strangers who were not friends...)

I hope that, if Hoyt doesn't die, that Jessica chats up Pam (or some other female vampire) about her 'problem.' Jessica *can't* be the first vampire in 3000 years to have been turned before she lost her virginity. There's *got* to be a 'fix' for that...

It might be nice, in future seasons, to meet a single vampire besides Bill Compton, Goddrick and the VRA spokeswoman, who support the 'Great Revelation.' So far, *every* other vampire (a Sherrif, a King, a Queen and the Magister included!) has expressed some combination of contempt and derision for the concept. Who exactly voted for this Great Revelation, if approximately 90% of the vampire population virulently loathes the idea?

Set, if you think the tv versions are irresponsible (and I would agree), you should see how the book versions behave. Tara atleast finally seemed to get her act together in the books. Sookie is the same as always (friends and family dropping like flies largely due to her bad choices) and Jason is worse.

Season four is off to an interesting start. I suppose there is a risk of the show becoming a parody of itself as more and more fantastic fantasy elements are added. It's definitely going places no television series has gone before. I love the characters and the actors, so I'll be along for the ride as long as HBO decides to keep producing new episodes.

Jason is maturing. Tara has made some interesting choices. Bill is king. Eric is hot as ever. Jessica and Hoyt are going to have a bumpy ride this season. My only real complaint is that Pam didn't get enough screen time.

The Fairyland thing was a little lame, but it was a nice means to soft-boot the series ahead in time.

Looks to be a TON of sex this season!

Plots I am excited/interested about in most to least favorite order:

Vampires winning back the public

Tara's new career... and lifestyle

Eric buying Sookie's house

Love & tensions with Hoyt and Jessica

Tommy and his new Mama-figure

Sam's anger management/orgy meetings

Jason held captive in Inbredville

Bill the King

Layfayette the witch

the whole coven of witches thing

the "evil" baby

I am worried I will grow weary of this whole "Layfayette denying his powers and the coven forcing them upon him" thing they appear to be working on.... and I truly hope this whole "evil baby" silliness ends super-soon.

I'm curious as to the whereabouts of Alcide!

Also: I thought it was so cruel Sookie lost her Grandfather!!

And I love that the house looks so nice. Let's keep it that way.

They've really done a 180 on the Bill -> Sookie -> Eric relationship. The 'good vamp' and the 'bad vamp' have totally changed positions, and I kind of like how organically it has been handled.

A part of me sits back cynically and says, 'good chemistry,' and 'smart writing, keeping the couple from getting stale and settled,' and another part of me just likes the mix-up.

Neat to see Barry again, although, I suspect, for the last time. The status of Sookie's nephew or cousin or whatever, Hunter, also becomes important, now that Mab seems to be collecting all of the half-breeds...

I love Jessica, but she really needs to get over herself. Hoyt, as well, seems to have some deeper issues. I'm sad to see them dysfunctional, and the suggestion that they've spend all this time together, and still haven't gotten around to looking into how to make things work. Other characters have moved on, in some cases, dramatically!, but Hoyt and Jessica feel like they've been stuck in a holding pattern, and not developed at all. (She doesn't even know how to use a drop of blood to smear away his fang-mark makeup, which Bill has apparently known how to do since at least the '60s!)

Sam's new friends are interesting. They've really come out of the woodwork, over the last 12 months, it seems. The resolution of his final scene with his brother was a relief. I expected it, but shows like this have a way of doing the unexpected to be shocking, and I was afraid that they might go that route to 'darken Sam up.'

Tara's new life as 'Toni' is shocking, and I love it. Her new romantic friend is way hotter than Eggs, IMO.

Not really loving the witches that much. As with all new critters, I'm not clear on what they can and cannot do, and that leaves me antsy. The writers have come up with a very clear mythology on what the vampires, shifters, weres, etc. can do, but I fear that witches may just be like comic book witches, and do whatever the writers want, until the plot requires them to inexplicably not do that anymore... The fact that the head witch seems to have no freaking idea what she is doing, and is allowing herself to be possessed by Buddha only knows what sort of forces, could mitigate that.

Lafayette as the voice of temperance and prudence? Oh lordy, that's priceless.

Jason seems also to have become the mitigating force over Sheriff Bellefleurs increasing spiral into crazytown. I like the bit where he talks about how Lafayette isn't a suspect, person of interest or confidential informant, and that Andy has no reason to treat him that way, indicating that, at some point in the last 12 months, Jason has learned *something* about police work, even if only from a six month marathon of every Law & Order and CSI ever filmed...

Arlene's totally losing it. Or is she? Hard to tell if she's worrying herself up to a stroke, or if Evil is On Board.

Ah, and poor Sookie, she dithered around being stubborn 'No! Stop and explain everything to me before I'll get myself out of danger!' Sookie until yet another loved one literally had to kill himself to save her.

[sarcasm] My heart bleeds for the poor little lamb. [/sarcasm]

I missed the season opener on Sunday, so went to digital HBO On Demand to see it tonight after midnight (seems like they don't come on for 24 hours after original broadcast), and there was Episode 1.

And Episode 2!

So I just saw the July 3 episode five days before it hits the public. If you get HBO through digital cable and have the HBO On Demand channel, check to see if it's still up. Must be that someone put up both eps by mistake, and prob won't last long.

We get to see a flashback to Bill in 1982 as a punk rocker in what seems to be London. Another flashback shows how he got his current position. And perhaps most interesting of all are the implications of what the wiccans did with the bird in the first ep. Some important people are REEEEEEEEALLY not happy to hear about it.

And I only just found out that the song at the closing credits of each episode is the title for the ep. Unless that was just a coincidence of the the last two, or a new thing for this season.

*sigh* There was no 'orgy' going on! They are shifters. They were taking off their clothes because horses wouldn't be able to run in human slacks, jeans, boots, high-heels and the like. If you recall, Sam and his brother casually dropped trou together last season. Did you think they were about to have an 'orgy'?

Posted by MLLASH on :

Well, Sam's bro DID invite him to "party" AKA have sex with him and his little date last season... but yes, I understand that clothes must be removed for the shifters.

I somehow didn't catch that the 4 were the horses until a second viewing.

So sorry to have exasperated you, but I also don't think I am too far off base to think "sex" first where TRUE BLOOD is concerned. 80% of the whole show is sex-related. *SIGH*

Going to have to forgive you after seeing the second episode. Seeing Sam and Tommy rolling on the ground naked sent my mind waundering elsewhere for a moment until the ick factor of them being brothers brought me back to what was actually going on in the show.

The head witch is cracking me up/creeping me out in a quiet unassuming way. Her line deliveries are pretty interesting. Is she British?

I want more Pam!

Aside from Eric, the rest of the show is now completely a divergent, barely parallel universe to the books. Which is a good thing.

Posted by Shining Son on :

Don't know for sure about the character, but the actress sure is British. The irony of the head witch being played by the same actress as Happy Potter's muggle aunt is delicious.

I went ahead and On-Demanded the 2nd ep last night;

The "witch" plot is heating up a bit, I'm liking it more than I thought I would.

Also, the "evil baby" plot heated up a little... I am curious as to wether this is for 'real'... or all in Arlene's mind. COULD the baby have burst her eye vessel, or was it pure stress? At any rate, that baby is ADORABLE.

So, Jason's going to be a shifter. I'll be fine if I never see Hot Shot again!

Eric with amnesia looks like it will be fun... and provide a way for Sookie to fall for him.

Posted by Shining Son on :

I think on this show were-creatures and shapeshifters are very different things.

Anybody know if this happened to Jason in the books?

Posted by MLLASH on :

Were-panther, shifter, whatever it is it looks like it's a bitch to be turned into one.

Posted by Jerry on :

I was on the edge of my seat for all of episode two.

Highlights:

The flashback of Bill as a punk rocker in London in 1982.

Bill looking hotter than ever in his sex scene.

The flashback of the the death scene of the queen. Gross!

Pam with attitude.

The Sookie and Tara reunion.

The boy licking Jason's wound.

More Pam with attitude.

Tara going after Eric.

Eric wandering shirtless.

This is some fun and crazy stuff.

Posted by Shining Son on :

Also looks like a bitch to FILM being turned into one. I don't know if that was special effects or if trained panthers were nuzzling Jason's torso with a camera angle that just looked like biting, but I'd hate to count on training that much.

Good list of highlights Jer! Makes me appreciate the ep even more when I see that in writing.

Click Here For A SpoilerIn the books there are 3 different types of 'shapeshifters':
1. Those born with 2 forms (full specific animal and full human)
2. Those 'infected' by a bite that can turn into a specific half animal half human form.
3. Those born able to turn into any animal form. Which I might note only happens to the first born of the true shape-shifters, there would be no true shifter siblings.

Knowing that the were-panther business comes from the books makes it a little more understandable, since, unlike vaguely-wolf-like dogs, trained panthers aren't cheap to find and use for a TV production.

Domesticated ones tend to be smaller than you'd want, for something that's supposed to look scary or threatening on-screen.

I find memory-erased Eric to be so much hotter than regular-Eric. Kudos to his acting skills.

Marnie's going to be trouble... I am enjoying the witch plot a lot more than I thought I would.

And what's up with that creepy doll of Jess and Hoyt's?

Claudine was feeble sizzle and no steak, wasn't she?

B) uncomfortable at a time when you really want to be comfortable. [Smile]

My votes for best-looking people on True Blood;

Gals - Tara, the Maenad (Mary Anne? Her voice makes me woobly.)
Guys - Goddrick

Posted by MLLASH on :

Sure bodies are fine and stuff, whatevs and all, but it's faces I like best... and I credit A-Skaar's acting, he has changed Eric's facial expressions perfectly into something hotter to me than what was there before (which was already pretty hot, mind you).

But boyswise, for me, it's a tossup between Tommy and Hoyt.

I think *all* of the girls are hot on the show... oh hell, everyone is really.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Wow... great episode tonight... I now officially like every plot, now that Jason is out of Hot Shot hopefully to never return. Yep, I'm even enjoying the evil baby plot! In fact, it's freaking me out now!!

Posted by Set on :

Various reactions;

Jason staring up at Jessica has all sorts of foreshadowing. The boy falls in love (lust) faster than lightspeed!

Poor Hoyt. I wanted those crazy kids to make it work, but I don't think this Hoyt / Jessica thing is gonna work out.

I do not at all like that Tommy may have overheard that a shifter can learn to take on the form of another shifter by killing them, and knows that Sam has all kinds of money...

Noooo! Pam!

I don't like evil baby stories. I also miss Rene's cajun accent. I don't hear enough southern accents, up here in Cow Hampshire.

Good grief, Sam, Tommy, L.C. (or Alcide?), Brother-Husband Fenton, maybe Jason, soon. This show has far too many people who need to take their pants off to use their super-powers...

"Hold on, I have to take my pants off to save you."

"Can I choose death?"

Posted by Jerry on :

Is it really possible for a show to have far too many people who have to take their pants off to use their super powers?!?

I think we're beginning to see the genius behind Sookie's persistent habit of walking into dangerous situations. "Oh shoot, now Alcide has to take his pants off to save me..." The girls no fool and she got some quality naked time with Eric and Alcide last night. On the other hand, she did intercede to prevent them from engaging in a naked wrestling match. Maybe she has some scruples.

I'm totally on board with all of this season's plots and subplots. There is just so much going on. Totally loving Tara's attitude this season. I hope Pam heals quickly.

After the first episode, I wasn't sold on all the plotlines but I am 100% into every storyline now that the faeries are out of the picture apparently and HotShot has been left behind (forever I hope).

The witch plot has surprised me by becoming so awesome and I *love* the actress playing Marnie. I'm looking forward to seeing her kick a little ass now that she has been possessed.

Equally surprising and delightful, the evil baby/doll/ghost plotline is just as fascinating to me as the witch plot now.

And you may consider me 100% on Team Eric after this ep. I'm fine if Bill never gets back with Sookie now.

EDITED FOR BOOK SPOILERS BY REQUEST OF TSD:
Well, the series is a very different reality from the books, but in the books she Click Here For A Spoileris closer to Eric than Bill and has been for some time. I would guess the show will sort of keep with that. On the other hand... in the books, Lafeyette is dead, Jason married Crystal, Sookie is technicallly married to Eric (under avampire custom she doesn't acknowledge), Jason is a were panther, Jason has a look-alike cousin that is of more Fae blood than he or Sookie and Elvis Presley is a vampire . So you never know what could happen!

With the deconstruction of 'good boyfriend' Bill and the schmoopification of bad boy Eric into helpless hurt/comfort-fic sadeyes 'can't keep my shirt on' Eric, I feel like I'm watching Buffy all over again...

And, ha! Anna Paquin now has to do love scenes with Alexander Skarsgaard while her husband Stephen Moyer watches!

Awkward!

I'm not loving the witch thing, because Lafayette feels like a passenger on this whole storyline. I liked him better with sass and in charge of his own (admittedly, messed-up) life.

I like that things seem to be headed back to good for Tara and her girlfriend. Now I just hope they get the heck out of Bon Temps before something eats her girlfriend! (and not in a good way)

But I'm glad Jessica made it!! Hoyt looks very very hot when he is pissed off. AND when he is bawling like a baby in a tank top, socks and boxers. If I was his boyfriend I would totally be making him cry and/or driving him into a fury ALL the time... SO HOT! [Smile]

Tommy = ugliest drag queen EVER!

LOVED how the werewolf plotline just intersected with Sam's story!

And we can now call Lafayette Mavis apparently.

This season continues to kick ass!

Posted by Jerry on :

Wow -- another very intense episode. This is turning out to be the best season yet.

Highlights:

Alcide naked.

Lafayette as Mavis.

Sookie's 3 way vamp dream. Laugh out loud funny.

Sam's incredible acting as Tommy again.

Jason calling Jesus, "Jesus".

Marnie as Antonia. Lots of great acting by characters possessed or taking the forms of other characters in the last few episodes.

Only three episodes left. Time flies when you are having fun.

Posted by Iam Legion on :

Amazing episode! However, the choriographers and the lighting technicians (while deserving of an award for their expertise) should be fired! They totally worked that scene with Alcide so that nothing actually showed even though by rights it should have been a 'full frontal' when he got into bed.

Posted by Jerry on :

Wow. Television doesn't get much more intense than this. They're racking up a pretty high body count this season and it doesn't look like it is over yet.

I love the attitudes of Jessica and Pam more with each episode, it seems.

Everybody else - "Mopey mopey mope." Soulful tortured look. Direly predict everything will be horrible if we don't stop it, and then do nothing to stop it!

Jessica and Pam - "**** it! Let's kill something!"

.

Scared-of-everything Lafayette needs to go away and be replaced by spit and vinegar Lafayette who would leap over the counter and pick fight (and *win* a fight) with three good ol' boys if they sassed him. The new Lafayette spends too much time cringing and waiting for Jesus to explain stuff / do something.

.

I wonder if the spell on Pam broke along with various other spells? It kinda makes sense that it would have...

Posted by Iam Legion on :

Yes, Pam and Jessica had the best ideas amoungst the Vampires for how to deal with the situation. However, the (more or less) human really saved the day. And, am I the only one that thinks the "What would Jesus do?" query was given a whole new twist by this episode?

Having a character named Jesus who may or may not get his power from a demon is certainly an interesting design choice.

Introduced as a caregiver, all in white, having devoted his life to helping others, and suffering some slings & arrows along the way (Lafayette's mother's nasty comments). He's all head-explode-y with the subverting of stereotypes, stacked one atop the other, and then, oh yeah, a gay brown immigrant witch.

I'm the non-conservative sort of Christian, so I think it's just 'shooting for controversy / subverting stereotypes' character design, but I could see the character feeling like a deliberate poke in the eye to the sorts of folk who probably don't watch True Blood anyway.

(So, in that sense, it's kind of like picking on Amish people on the internet. The only way they'd know about it is if they were doing something they shouldn't have been doing...)

NO ATTEMPT TO HIDE SPOILERS.... BE WARNED.

Just caught the season finale and before that the last 2 weeks' worth of episodes.

A wonderful season overall.

I'm going to miss some of the people who will now no longer be around. I'll miss Tommy's redneck swagger and Jesus' overall cuteness.

I really really liked Marnie, I think her feelings of revenge were relateable, she made a good adversary; and I even liked the resolution to her saga. I broke up when Gran reappeared.

Holly has turned out to be something special! I'm glad not all of the more-recently intro'd folks are being offed thiss season.

What's up with Terry's friend? Odd. I doubt Rene can be trusted any more than anyone else though, the old-lady killing bastard.

I figured Sookie was going to end it with both of her vampers. We'll see how long that lasts.

I'll rather miss Nan... but good riddance to that slutbag Debbie Pelt. Sookie should have shot her waaaay back when she broke into her house the first time.

Andy and the fairy? Whatevs.

A really good time overall... season 4 has been a thrillride. And now the 9 month wait for season 5. *rolls eyes* At least it's only 5 weeks 'til THE WALKING DEAD season 2...

Teen Wolf pretty much picks up where The Gates leftover, in the 'supernatural soap opera' vein.

I'm still watching True Blood, but sometimes it seems like things take too long to happen. Today's ep was all talky-talk. Very boring.

The whole 'captured by the authority' thing is boring me. Two whole episodes of Tara waking up? Yawn. Other than a welcome two minute snapshot into Pam's past, and the cutest little werewolf-in-pajama's-ever, I felt like this ep was a waste.

I got my hopes up for a minute last night that Tara might have somebody she could get through a conversation with in which 2/3 of her dialogue wasn't the "F" word. Haha, silly me, it was to set up an out-of-left-field fight over Hoyt.

Well, it's nice to see the Smoke Monster from Lost got a new gig.

I might like vampire Tara even better than regular Tara, if she ever gets her crap together. Forcing her into constant interactions with Pam just does wonders for both characters (and gives them a reason to keep relevant to the show, with their respective relationships with Sookie and Eric on the outs).

I still kinda miss the snarky sassy Lafayette from season 1, who would hop over a counter and pick a fight with three good old boys and make them back down. Between Eric-inspired PTSD and his 'stand around and watch Jesus do stuff' of the last season or so, I'm bored with wimpy neurotic post-traumatic Lafayette.

Terry has the PTSD plotline covered, I think, anyway. [Smile]

Tara and Pam, what a combination/contradiction! But it's interesting how it will turn out.

Tara can't continue working in Merlotte's for sure. Will she find a new home in Fangtasia? [Big Grin]

Personally I'm looking forward to an awkwardly crammed-in, digressive plot with the adorably perky Authority IT girl which would frankly be a lot more fun that more white-trash werewolves or vampire politics.

The more bored I grow with the actual plots on this show the more I become curious about things like exactly who does the cleanup in Authority HQ after somebody gets whacked at the conference table? Who orders the office supplies? Why is the Vampire White House in Louisiana anyway?

Not a whole lot of TB excitement here this year it seems. I'm finding this season to be alright, not great. My favorite plotline is the new Pam/Tara situation. Those 2 could carry their own show!

DALLAS has def overtaken TB as my new fave summertime show.

I was glad that at least one vampire in all of vampire HQ actually seemed aware that something crazy has been going down. Molly the vampire IT specialist! She's about the only good new character this season.

When I saw the title of the season finale, Save Yourself, I was immediately reminded of the song by Stabbing Westward, which is a favorite band of mine, and then they ended with it and I was geekily happy.

Gosh, I won't miss one of the characters that didn't make it out alive.
