I'm so loving this show - it's dramatic, campy, and there's a good mystery in it, too.
For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, here's a recap of the opening episode:
In the series premiere, "Pilot," looking down on her friends and family isn't a way of life for Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong)... it's a way of death. One day, in her perfect house, in the loveliest of suburbs, Mary Alice ended it all. Now she's taking us into the lives of her family, friends and neighbors, commenting from her elevated P.O.V.
Her small circle of girlfriends are wondering why one of their own would do something so rash... and so messy. There's Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), the divorcee and single mom who will go to extraordinary lengths for love; Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), the ex-career woman who traded the boardroom for boredom, mixed with moments of sheer panic as the mother of four unmanageable kids; Bree Van De Kamp (Marcia Cross), the Martha Stewart on steroids, whose family is about to mutiny; and Gabrielle Solis, the ex-model with everything she's ever wanted - a rich husband, a big house - so what is she doing with John, the 17-year-old gardener (Jesse Metcalfe)? And there are her neighbors, including serial divorcee Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan), whose romantic conquests have everyone buzzing.
Then there are the men: Hunky new neighbor Mike Delfino (James Denton), a supposedly widowed plumber who has Susan and Edie vying for his attention; Rex Van De Kamp (Steven Culp), who's just told Bree he wants a divorce; Gabrielle's better half, Carlos (Ricardo Antonio Chavira), who figures he bought his wife a $15,000 diamond necklace, so she should do whatever he tells her; as for Mary Alice's newly-widowed husband, Paul (Mark Moses), there must be a reason why he's acting so suspiciously - and why he's digging up the pool in the middle of the night!
From her unique vantage point, Mary Alice sees more now than she ever did alive, and she's planning to share all the delicious secrets that hide behind every neighbor's closed door in this seemingly perfect American suburb.
It's still early in the season - watch Desperate Housewives!

I watched it once. I got hooked when I saw the sexy gardener! I don't know if I can deal with the soapy elements, but it's sure got eye candy.

My brother and I have been trying this, and the satire has been entertaining. Especially in the first episode, less so since then. Two elements are becoming grating, though:
~ Bree, the perfect redheaded bed-smoother, is becoming more of a caricature than a character. I'm not faulting Marcia Cross for it, she's skilled and well cast, but Bree's idiosyncrasies are getting in the way.
~ The narrations-from-the-grave are too often intrusive, rather than illuminating, and are punching up plot and character bits that we in the audience can grasp for ourselves.
I hope these elements change soon, as I'd like to keep enjoying this cast.

I love soapy elements. And Jesse Metcalfe who plays the gardener makes my eyeballs hurt he's so fine.
I wonder how the "murder" mystery will play out. The running theme of Laura Palmer's murder grew tiresome and got sidetracked by too many other subplots. I think this will be handled better, if not just differently.

I like the show, I love Teri Hatcher's character and the perfect red head! Good stuff! Not to mention the little blonde flirt.
And to show I bear no ill will, I, too, shall bestow a gift...

Every moment since then for me has been the moves of a tensely wound up woman desperately seeking approval and losing her chance at it (approval) with her actions. That once scene turned Bree from caricature to complicated neuotic for me. ~ The narrations-from-the-grave are too often intrusive, rather than illuminating, and are punching up plot and character bits that we in the audience can grasp for ourselves. I like them. Sometimes they do have a "tell, don't show" aspect to 'em, but often times they do a good job drawing episode themes together. I think they should cut back a little but it overall works. I think this will be handled better, if not just differently. That's my big worry. I remember how the Laura Palmer story made and killed Twin Peaks, as many viewers left over disappointment from a false idea (I'm still not sure where they got it) that the story would be solved in the first season finale. They haven't wrapped too much of the show in the Mary-Alice storyline, however, so I've got my hopes.

What about Bree's lashing remark at the dinner party, which was aimed at her husband Rex? The one about how he cries after he *blanks*.
Seeing her anger crack through her perfect plastic veneer was a tad scarey. I look forward to seeing Bree find her own voice, rather than going through the motions of societal expectation.
And, as for the husbands on the show, Rex is aces! He puts up with so much and it's hurting him to consider leaving Bree. He's the "best" husband on the show, especially when compared to insensitive Carlos, out-of-touch what's his name (Lynette's hubby), and creepy Paul.
I'm sooooooooooooo looking forward to the Mrs. Huber subplot this weekend.

LOVE this show. Who'd a thunk that ABC would give us the two best shows of the season (Lost being the other one)?

I like how Bree is played. The actress is very controlled.
I don't think Carlos is a legitimate business man. I'll bet he's involved with the mob and that's the reason plumber man is there. And by the way, isn't it time to see plumber man with his shirt off?

I've caught I think 2 episodes so far but have missed two too. Are they repeating them Saturdays or something? Interesting to see both Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain with new shows in the same season...

I love it too!
Bree is great! Marcia Cross is so restrained that YOU JUST KNOW when she breaks all hell is gonna break loose.
I think the umbrella story about the suicide and what the secret is will unfold slowly. Just as long as they don't drop the ball...

I also hope they don't drag out the suicide plotline too much or give us too many red herrings or else it will turn into another Laura Palmer.
Many great lines from the last episode. Aside from the ones mentioned, how about the widower guy saying to his son "that's assuming you outlive me." Chilling.
I also hope that new little girl blackmailer subplot doesn't go on for too long. Only cuz she annoys me.

She didn't say it happens during sex though ... wouldn't surprise me he's alone in the shower a la Kevin Spacey in "American Beauty"
