Wow...the new roster has been announced.. Braianc 5 Chamleon Boy ColossalBoy/Micro lad Cosmic Boy Dream Girl Element Lad Karate Kid Phantom Girl Princess Projectra Saturn Girl Shadow Lass Shrinking Violet/Atom Girl Starboy Sunboy Ultra Boy also hinted..Lightning Lad, Light Lass, and soon.Monel.
Ok....We are returning to the classic Adventure line up with some very peculiar missing members. Current roster will be 18-20 members with the following missing Invisible Kid (dead) Ferro Lad (dead) Chemical King (dead) Triplicate girl - resigned Bouncing Boy - resigned Matter eater lad - resigned and Timber Wolf
Does anyone else see a pattern here?? I think Waid has restored Legion continuity up until possibly Superboy and the Legion 212-215... with all of the above gone from the Legion by resignation/death save Condo and Brin...who could be the last few un-announced members... this is very weird...what major time event could have happened to have them starting the new series off during the famous Grell/Cockrum era...
just a thought...?????

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking, but I really hope Lyle isn't dead.
What about Wildfire and Dawnstar? When did they sign on?

Drake was Suberboy 195, about that same time. Dawnstar was I think Superboy Legion 225...then Condo died in 227-228. It is tooo weird. This would enable Waid to keep the Adventure run in check, but maybe modernized, and get us into what I believe was the best age for the Legion..the 70's/early eighties. I am very excited! The fact that Salu is Atom girl but the team calls her Shrinking Violet because she's sub atomic and they dont see her is genius! And Projectra has always been my 2nd fav. and this could mean that Dawny is right around the corner! Here that Greybird!!!!!

I think Lightning Lad's still around (unless he's "Lightning Boy" again...). Mark Waid has already confirmed that the three founders are still the same three founders in this incarnation. And Garth did survive the Adventure era (not unscathed mind you, but he was feeling much better)! I'm hopeful!

This is hugely depressing news. Whats the point of sticking with the Adventure era characters? How's that going to attract new readers? Are Waid and Kitson writing for anyone other than 40somethings who've been buying the Legion since they were 6 or whatever?
(also Imskian - not putting spoilers in the thread topic title is a good idea)

I've only been buying since I was 20 and in college (TMK era), but I figure if they're going to start a fresh take on an old idea, they'd best start off with some familiar faces. Esp. considering that there are more former readers of that "old" Legion than there are current ones.
(now, a full reversion to an Adventure Legion really would be depressingly retro.)

From past interviews with Waid, I've gathered he's not a fan of postADVENTURE era LEGION, so I don't think we'll be seeing great characters like WILDFIRE and DAWNSTAR. I hope I'm wrong.

What about Gear (maybe I'm wrong) and a Tyroc-looking character on the cover of Decembers LoSH #1? While I'm glad some Legionnaires (Like Jan, Dirk and Gim) are back it'll be sad to see of of the others go. Like Gates and XS

So it's a team of white humans with a couple of tokens humanoids with slightly different colouring thrown in.
How disappointing.
TYROC, KQ, XS, Gear, Jacques Foccart, Dragonmage, and make Karate Kid Asian.
Gates and Sneckie too!
It's the 21st century Waid and Kitson, try to give us something to relate to race-wise please.
And a few nonhumanoids would be decent.
Legion Worlds NINE - wait, there's even more ongoing amazing adventures? Yup, and you'll only find them in the Bits o' Legionnaire Business Forum.

Remember the "New Membership Issue" (I LOVED those applicant/academy issues from Cockrum thru Levitz) that introduced Tellus, Sensor Girl and Quislet to the Legion? That moment, when the 5 rookies are saluting to the Legion flag and all the members are reacting? It just held so much promise for me, so much possibility about the future.

I totally agree - Waid's "exciting new vision" (ha!) has ditched Kid Quantum (who was an excellent character despite her crazy powers) andd Gear and done away with the more visiually interesting characters like Gates.
None humanoid Legionnaires really make the team feel like a galaxy-wide type group, rather than the 18 white humanoids we seem to have ended up with.
This is a huge step backwards in my opinion.

This is only issue one everyone. I don't think some of your favories mentioned were there from the start of the original Legion stories. Give it a year. See when, how, and who new members added are before deciding already. If by then it looks like you hate it, storm away!
I just can't BLOK it out!

Kitson was wonderful with nonhumanoid characters in L.E.G.I.O.N., so I'd expect to see some fairly soon. I don't really know what's going on, been gone, but I'm not happy with the idea of a reboot.

HE was OK at drawing big lumps off rock (Strata) or play-doh (that big red lump) but he wasn't too hot with anything else. What other non humanoid members were there?

To BE POSITIVE! So you aren't A GROUCH! And to generally suspend your critical faculties because Saint Kitson is posting on the boards. It's gone crazy round here! It's as if anyone who disagrees with flushing 10 years of continuity down the toilet for no reason that to flatter a writer's ego (rather than work within it and fix what he doesn't like) is a heretic! Oooh!

CK, I'm looking forward to this reinterpretation of the Legion because I think the current (DnA) stories were stale and unimaginative. Panel stealing Imra, no characterisation, poorly structured stories with at best hokie pseudo science fiction plot devices. It was getting really embarrassing IMO. REALLY embarrassing.
Despite that I loved the art, loved a lot of the members who we haven't been told are appearing (yet - Gates in particular, XS, KQ, Gear), loved Legion world, threshholds and the secong galaxy potential.
But I was seriously thinking of stopping buying the Legion because of the points in the first paraggraph above.
If you've read my posts in the past you'll know I wont be 'nice' just to appease a creator (if I wont for my husband I certainly wont for someone I've never met:) ). I'm being 'nice' because I'm genuinely happpy to see a breath if fresh air entering the only comic I'll read with any regularity.
Please don't think I (and I imagine the other Yay sayers) don't have some worries but at least allow us to express our opinions without being so hostile. Come on, IMHO you're one of the more entertaining posters here, you have a great wit and a sharp mind, don't get nasty before we've had a chance to see the work. If it is crap I'll join you in slagging it off - we can compete to see who can come up with the ultimate put down if you like.
And I hate Bouncing Boy too - burst him with a pin I say! And his costume was ugly too.
Legion Worlds NINE - wait, there's even more ongoing amazing adventures? Yup, and you'll only find them in the Bits o' Legionnaire Business Forum.

It's your call Reboot-O! But you might like it...I'm sure I've spent more than £25.80 ( I think) on somethng dumber than a comic series. Maybe beer, but I can't seem to remember...

OUCH That's the cup of cold water splashing my face. Nothing like the bill to wake someone up. I have to say, that due to Barry Kitson's activity on this board at least, one definitely gets the sense that he's going the extra mile on this project to make it worth every penny for us. I know he's 1 partner in the process, but he's a vital one, and I'm going to give the Legion a story arc (3-4 issues) to get me (much like I did Outsiders, Simone's Birds of Prey, Fallen Angel and Teen Titans -- of those, I dropped TT for its WB/teen Dawson Creek focus).
