During 5YL, I believe the year of the Legion's founding was given as 2973.

January 6 2973, per the Legion Chronology at the Cosmic Teams site, based on the 5YL timeline.

It all depends which Legion you are talking about.
The original Legion was supposedly 1000 years after either Superboy or Supergirl's time (depending on which story you read) so that would make it somewhere around 2938 or 2958.
By the time the Legion was thirty odd publishing years old, during 5YL, this was updated to the 2970s.
The Reboot Legion started in 1994 so their foundation would be 2994.
The retroboot Legionnaires are about 30ish years old and the Legion was formed when they were mid teens - so the Legion is 16-18 years old, making its foundation 2997-9.
The Legion is stuck in the same way as 31st century heroes are because they do not age in real years. No way has the current Superman been fighting crime for 75 years and no way has Saturn Girl been a member of the Legion for 57 years. So the founding date will constantly move as long as the date of their adventures stays 1000 years after publishing date.

The Reboot Legion started in 1994 so their foundation would be 2994. Sliding timeline though - notwithstanding the year jump during Lost, it was more or less always set in current-year+1000. The retroboot Legionnaires are about 30ish years old and the Legion was formed when they were mid teens - so the Legion is 16-18 years old, making its foundation 2997-9. New 52 team was subject to the same "five year timeframe" as the present day N52.

That was never explicitly stated in any story and from the point of say Imra's kids does not make any sense.

What are Solomon Grundy's powers and personality like? Any info on him would be helpful. How does his strength and toughness compare to the Legionnaires? Is he invulnerable and has Super Strength? Does he have other powers. I need to stat him for my game tomorrow and I want to know if he would be on par with a fight with either
Ultra Boy & Element Lad or Ultra Boy and Sun Boy.
Would they beat the crap out of Solomon Grundy or would it be a good fight?

My understanding is that Solomon Grundy's threat level fluctuates depending on how tough a writer wants him...he is always superhumanly strong but sometimes it's a level where he gives Batman a hard time and sometimes he's more on Superman's level. Ditto with his invulnerability & intelligence. I think you could reasonably write him as being on par with Ultra Boy

Thanks, the characters are discovering that a portal to Tarturus has accidently been opened and that all sorts of nasty evil dead people are coming out unto our world. I wanted a deceased villains from centuries ago to give them trouble as he leaves and after 1,000 years I thought perhaps Solomon Grundy would have finally found himself in hell and would give the PCs a suitable fight.

Yeah, Grundy at times was a match for pre-Crisis Superman, though it varied pretty wildly.
I think there was actually some sort of explanation for this given in Infinity, Inc. I think whenever he is destroyed he is reborn with a different level of strength/personality or something like that.

Yeah. Starman followed that (and also revealed that he's the Swamp Thing-esque reincarnation of an evil guy, which is why most of him are evil. Also that if you shunt the existing Grundy far enough from Earth, a new one is reborn as if he'd died even if he carries on (un)living).

January 6 2973, per the Legion Chronology at the Cosmic Teams site, based on the 5YL timeline. I'd like to use the information on this site but I don't know if the dates given (such as birth years of Legionnaires) are speculation or fact. Does anybody know for certain about whether these are author opinions or well researched facts? I was just on the site and read this: "Mysa Nal, daughter of High Seer Kiwa Nal and younger sister of Nura Nal, is born on Naltor. She is born without the Naltorian power of prophecy. While she is still very young, her mother dies, leaving Mysa alone." The fact that Mysa is born in the same year as Nura (Mysa apparently being older) and the fact that her official birthday is listed as Sep. 21st on this site and Nura's is officially Dec. 8th. That allows for a pregnancy of just over 2 months assuming that Naltorians gestation period is similar to other humans. To my knowledge I don't believe they are twins. Are they? Since this site is based on information given in 5YL (at least that's what I think I read) is there an actual fact/timeline of sorts given in these comics? If so where? I would like to check it out.

The way I read it, Nura is born in 2957 and Mysa in 2959?
Anyway, the timelines are based on those given in the 1990s LSH RPG Sourcebooks from Mayfair Games, which were largely written by the Bierbaums and indispensable as a companion to the 5YL Legion.

Agreed, I went back and looked at it seemed quite obvious that White Witch was born in 2959 and Dream Girl in 2957. Must have been very tired when I was looking at this last week. Thanks Eryk.

Just a question that crossed my mind.
If you consider every title the Legion starred in: Adventure, Superboy & the Legion of Super-Heroes, the various Legion of Super-Heroes titles, the Legionnaires title, 'Tales of the Legion of Super-Heroes', etc....
Not the ones where they only cameoed, like the occasional appearances in Action in the 20th century...
If you look at the circulation numbers...
How many Legion issues total do you suppose have been sold?
I would imagine it would be a small number: less than a million.
Next time we have a DC/Marvel crossover, I want it to take place in the Hostessverse
