Sigh. I'm now wishing that Marvel had marketed this line better. It all sounded rather hollow to me, but the line had a ton of good content to it, as I'm learning by checking out the collections that have come out.

Runaways was exactly the magic I was promised. This is a fun little superhero romp that requires pretty much no familiarity with the rest of the Marvel Universe. Same for Sentiennel which is cute and also has an easy entry. Sentinnel was a perfect match for the creator of The Waiting Place.

Also checked out Mystique which is also a fun read. Vaughn does a great job tapping into the character's potential. Wish that one came out in digest size, tho. I don't know why but for some reason I find reading digests to be more fun.

Ok I'm not usually the one to point of this type of stuffed since my PC is possessed by Typo Demons but it's spelled Sentinel.

I thought that New Mutants was the best of bunch, and is still very excellent as New X-Men.

I also enjoyed the first 6 issues of Human Torch immensely. A fun read, and something I'd reccomend to younger children.

I never picked up Runaways or Sentinel, but I picked up and didn't like Namor and Inhumans (which I know some liked--not me).

Crew was not really a Tsunami title, although I thought that was good too. I like Priest's style of writing a lot.

And there was nothing in the world that would have got me to buy Wolverine:Snnkt! or Venom.

Well, all I can say about the Tsunami line is that a lot of the fan speculation back when it was announced came true: it'd be a short-lived line.

Mystique and Venom are still around, but every other title & mini-series has already been cancelled or faded away (lucky for me though, New Mutants was cancelled & relaunched as New X-Men and it seems Runaways will have its day again in a sequel). Which, in retrospect, makes for like 7 or 8 regular titles that were cancelled before or after their first year. Kind of dissapointing.

I'm glad they launched it though. So many digests coming from it show that certain stories (most, actually) were definitely more friendly to all ages and I appreciated their drive to try and appeal kids into reading comics again now that manga is much more of a craze these days.

Thankfully, Runaways will be returning (Vol 2 is scheduled for August). Hopefully, Sentinel will find similar sueccess, but I'm not so sure. (Oh cool, vol 2 is announced for Sept, along with a teeny Mary Jane digest.)

I talked to Weir & DeNunzio (did I remember their names right?) at San Diego and they said there should be New Mutants collections eventually. New X-Men is doing well to have a collection and they were able to convince the right person that it would make sense to have the earlier story collected too. The only question is format and (more importantly) where it falls in Marvel's priority list.

Lyle, thanks for the heads-up on the New Mutant digests.

At least it sounds like Marvel is actually considering them now from what Christina and Nunzio said. Of course, considering at this rate means they might not surface until fall of 2005.

Venom's cancelled. It's just marking time until #18 now (and remember, this title launched with 90000 orders for issue 1!)

My views are my own and do not reflect those of everyone else... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

What did you dislike about INHUMANS? I think they should've featured the 'classic' characters more... though I appreciate the 'new' kids, too.

Maybe the setting of an out-of-the-regular-Marvel-loop of established cities was a poor choice.

Oh, well... I hope Marvel'll give the royal family of Attilan another shot in a few years or so.

I read the first collection of RUNAWAYS at work and thought it was terrific! I'm looking forward to volume 2.

I agree about NEW MUTANTS-- it was a fun book... the new series is just now 'catching up' with it, IMO.

I'm not sure what it was exactly, Todd. Personally, I love reading about the Royal Family, and would have much rather seen them than the new characters. I like all of them, but I really think Blackbolt and Karnak are just plain awesome. And Crystal is one of my faves, so it would have been nice to see her (I really liked her as an Avenger).

Tonaja was the only character that I liked that was introduced (although she was from the 12 issue Maxi that I really liked). I think I just had my hopes up for seeing the Royal Family and then was let down when it was another group of teenagers.

I, for one, liked how these kids were being "bussed and mainstreamed" into normal society. I'm surprised it didn't catch on with reality TV fans... but it was never marketed like Todd Nauck's WILDGUARD was, which is a shame.

It didn't bother me that the Royal Family were in the background... there would've been plenty of time later to incorporate them into the main storyline. This joins my Crossgen books as titles I'm truly sorry to lose. frown

Yes & no. By the time her series came out it was re-branded as Marvel Age.

And it's my understanding that it was written by the same guy who writes The Walking Dead.

Yes, it is by Robert Kirkman. It's not his best work but it's still worth-reading if your a fan of Jubs. I think the main problem with it is how it was originally supposed to be an ongoing that was drastically cut short before it even made a year.
