However, what the link is I am drawing a blank. I would think Ferro Lad is the big clue because of how limited his appearances were in the original team, unless it is referring to the Reboot. It doesn't match the 20C team. They didn't all die in similar circumstances. Their interactions with others like the Fatal 5 involved other members. They all appeared as Adult Legionnaires in possible futures but so did others.
Nope I am stuck.

The connection? Still not sure. Closest I can get is they all died in one or another of their versions and were all either resurrected or replaced by a doppelganger/duplicate/something similar? Still not quite right as surely Karate Kid and Invisible Kid also fit that description.

It sort of has to do with duplicates, but you're fairly far from the key point.

Does it have something to do with the originals meeting the doppelgangers? though it can't be originals who never met the doppelgangers, as only Ferro and Cham count here that I'm certain of. While Tinya, Garth, Ayla and Jan at least definitely met theirs.

Is it legionnaires whose SW6 versions changed code names. And idle sneaks on for the win! I didn't count Laurel, because it's not clear if she had a code name prior to the Legionnaires series. Valor, of course, had a different code name than the Silver Age version, but that's because it was retconned to have always been his code name. You're up, idle!

Yeah, if you just go by the twenty active as of Legionnaires #1, you've got 9 who change code names (2 of which are just dropping Lad/Boy), 7 who keep their Silver Age names, Laurel, and 3 new members.
