Sigh. I'm sorry guys. I was hoping someone made a mistake, but, it looks like comic artist Carlos Pacheco has passed away.

It feels like it was only recently he was diagnosed with ALS. I had no idea it was so advanced.

Carlos is rather significant to me as a comic fan and creator. His design of Saturn Queen from Superman/Batman has remained the definitive take on the character for me and is a staple in my plans.

He had one of the best senses of dynamics I've ever seen. And he was a terrific draftsman as well.

When he made it big in the late 90s, I was hardly reading any comics at all, but I always made an exception for a comic drawn by him.

May he rest in peace.

One of my favorite X-Men arcs is the one involving the mash-up team created by Cerebro. His designs were gorgeous.

This was my exact reaction when I saw the news on Twitter...ALS is such an awful disease too frown

Carlos Pacheco was one of my favourite modern comic book artists, he had such an amazing grasp of visual dynamics like Ann said....the way he depicted Cecilia Reyes's forcefield, Marrow's bones and Iceman's everything was really undefeated in X-Men, and his short stint on the Fantastic Four was equally awesome. He also gave us my favourite Nightcrawler costume in Excalibur...such a great talent!

I think two of the most underrated comics Carlos ever drew are Flash issues 93 & 94, the second and third appearances of Bart Allen. Carlos had a style that was perfect for Flash.

Based on this post, I decided to put a used copy of the Superman/Batman Absolute Power trade on one of my online want lists. Thanks, Sarky.

Oh, and I did the same with both volumes of Superman Camelot Falls. I read that one years ago and thought Busiek's story was pretty good (nice use of Arion, as I recall) and Pacheco's artwork was great as usual.

Just free-associated Pacheco & Busiek also doing Arrowsmith. I'll have to see if my library has it. If not, then it, too, goes on my want list.
