Welcome to the difficulty of the Idol games, gang I think thothy, GL and stile are first-timers at the LW Idol ways of voting, whereas Reboot, Nighty, Set and EDE have been through this before I also find it interesting and cool, how some of us would have multiple entries for different versions of a Legionnaire (e.g., pre-5YL Vi + Reboot Vi), where others stick to one version per Legionnaire.

I believe at least a couple on my list benefited from my preferred version being eliminated, and so my choosing close-enough counterparts!
So many of my favorites are those unique to one reality or at least with few counterparts.

I think I got 3 entries and 30 seconds into the remaining list yesterday, trying to weigh up points. I abandoned that to just try and select my Knights of the 30. Losing the final 2 or 3 to get to the 30 proved a tough one. I've not been reading much Leigon recently, so going through the list reminded me, once again, just how much so many characters have given to the book. It made dropping some harder. There's space between the different 'boots for some characters. Some stand out more in one than in anoother. Sometimes, that's just a particular story. It's interesting to see if that splits points, allowing characters unique to a 'boot to come through. out of curiosity, who are the top of the top faves of yours who've been eliminated? Not telling in case that character still has a version left in there. Well, not telling yet... 1 - (Pre-5YL) Supergirl 2 - (5YL) Laurel Gand 3 - (5YL) Infectious Lass 4 - (5YL) Matter-Eater Lad 5 - (Pre-5YL) Brainiac 5 6 - (5YL) Brainiac 5 7 - (Pre-5YL) Mon-el 8 - (5YL) Shrinking Violet 9 - (Pre-5YL) Shrinking Violet 10 - (Pre-5YL) Dream Girl 11 - (Pre-5YL) Krypto 12 - (Pre-5YL) Cosmic Boy 13 - (Pre-5YL) Light(ning) Lass 14 - (Pre-5YL) Princess Projectra/ Sensor Girl 15 - (Pre-5YL) Saturn Girl 16 - (Pre-5YL) Ultra Boy 17 - (Pre-5YL) Dawnstar 18 - (Pre-5YL) Timber Wolf 19 - (Pre-5YL) Blok 20 - (Pre-5YL) Wildfire 21 - (Pre-5YL) Chameleon Boy 22 - (Pre-5YL) Colossal Boy 23 - (Pre-5YL) Superboy 24 - (Pre-5YL) Triplicate Girl / Duo Damsel 25 - (5YL) Impulse (Kent Shakespeare) 26 - (Pre-5YL) White Witch 27 - (Pre-5YL) Bouncing Boy 28 - (Pre-5YL) Phantom Girl 29 - (Pre-5YL) Shadow Lass 30 - (Pre-5YL) Ferro Lad

I think Legionnaires with multiple counterparts definitely have a handicap, by potentially splitting the vote between their counterparts! Will be curious to see if multiple counterparts of certain Legionnaires will battle it out in later rounds! I was susprised that 5YG Jo went out so early. That was a character who was key to a number of the TMK arcs. Perhaps voters felt it was too many arcs, and voted him down as all these years later, they are still sick of his panel hogging. Well, so much for my resistance in not blabbing on characters I thought would do well. That lasted five minutes. The thing with the Legion for me, is that there are so many characters with something to offer. So, they are all sort of favs in their own way. Except Earth Man, who is the exception proving the rule.

I find up to now, I've been able to get on pretty well - I've had some drop out from the original cullings, but a lot are still there. So far its been easy to just hit reset to what the current list is.

5YG Jo was definitely one of the eliminations that raised an eyebrow of surprise from me!
I’ve lost a few Legionnaires that I quite like, but *touch wood* none of my super top faves yet.
As a fanfic writer, I admit to wincing a bit with the elimination of Nightwind - but that’s not the Nightwind I write, so…

I like Nightwind too. Then I realised the extent of her 5YG on panel membership, and she had to go. I'm looking forward to any commentary on why character's are top faves for posters. That was a really enjoyable part of other idols.

With Nightwind, I always liked the idea of her as a Legionnaire. Really wish she had more screen time. Gail Simone gave her some great moments in the Reboot. I thought Nightwind did pretty well in her first couple of appearances, even knocking Wildfire for a loop. was not convinced that she wasn't ready for the team.
Infectious Lass is one of my top picks, for how useful she was 5YL (and for the Reboot, the Gail Simone story). Taking Universo out, figuring something out to stop zombies...
and of course, Kinetix is still my top one pick - her origin always fascinated me, searching for power in order to "not be useless" and to help people. her friendship with Vi was great, and I'm glad they had her turn her back on power - finally - later in the Reboot.
as for Polar Boy, I respect and admire him for coming up with the idea to form the Subs . he was not out for glory, he genuinely wanted to do good. and he kept at it until joining the Legion. he didn't have an easy time... I also respect him for bringing Brainiac 5 to trial, whatever his personal feelings, he did want to uphold the constitution.
many of my other faves also had good growth arcs. Reboot Vi, fighting back against the Emerald Eye and becoming more confident. Reboot Tinya, dealing with her overbearing mother (can sympathize with her parental issues). Reboot Garth, slowly maturing, and also having to deal with understanding that his beloved older brother was just rotten. XS, growing out of her initial panic with her first mission... Kid Q II, from hothead to Legion leader... Reboot Brainy, slowly learning how to make friends... same for Gates, and Gates always had hilarious one-liners, but underneath that, Gates really cared about his fellow sentient.

I see all 8 "regular" voters have voted, and I am delayed from leaving home due to trains not working, so I will start tallying now!

Yeah, this round, the only ones from multiple boots I've been going for have been Ayla (Superboy's Legion Light Lass was so different, with her light powers), Tasmia (Umbra from the Reboot with her darkforce powers) and Triplicate Girl from the Reboot, who had a distinctive personality and role compared to 'classic' Luornu. But in the end, I'll be probably pruning them for single-worlders like Tellus, Kid Quantum 2 and Dragonmage (if they make it to the next round).

RESULTS TIME!!! End of Round 3!!
We choose our Top 75 from the 101 remaining, so 26 are going home...
With 8 voters doing the selecting....
here is the ranking, from highest to lowest!
Reboot (Kinetix) gets propelled to the top, with two 1st rank votes! While 5YL Matter-Eater Lad gets one Rank 1 and one Rank 4, and Reboot Violet gets a rank 2 and a rank 4.
And 5YL Infectious Lass, despite her relatively short actual tenure, places quite highly... and Dead Earth Wildfire only got 1 vote, but a Rank 1, so flies to safety!
1 ) (Reboot) Kinetix - 1340 2 ) (5YL) Matter-Eater Lad 950 3 ) (Reboot) Shrinking Violet/ LeViathan II 910 4 ) (Pre-5YL) Brainiac 5 895 5 ) (Reboot) Kid Quantum II 875 6 ) (Pre-5YL) Supergirl 832 7 ) (Reboot) Gates 810 8 ) (5YL) Infectious Lass 809 9 ) (5YL) Shrinking Violet 720 10 ) (Pre-5YL) Polar Boy 710 11 ) (Pre-5YL) Triplicate Girl / Duo Damsel 695 12 ) (Reboot) Shikari 680 13 ) (5YL) Laurel Gand 670 14 ) (Pre-5YL) Karate Kid 650 15 ) (Reboot) Spark 640 16 ) (Pre-5YL) Shadow Lass 633 17 ) (Dead Earth) Wildfire 600 18 ) (Pre-5YL) Sun Boy 600 19 ) (Pre-5YL) Light(ning) Lass 555 20 ) (Reboot) Triad 554 21 ) (5YL) Brainiac 5 550 22 ) (Pre-5YL) Phantom Girl 510 23 ) (Pre-5YL) Princess Projectra/ Sensor Girl 483 24 ) (Pre-5YL) Shrinking Violet 482 25 ) (Pre-5YL) Tellus 460 26 ) (Reboot) XS 445 27 ) (Reboot) Brainiac 5 440 28 ) (5YL) Impulse (Kent Shakespeare) 412 29 ) (Pre-5YL) Bouncing Boy 411 30 ) (Threeboot) Theena 410 31 ) (Pre-5YL) Mon-el 400 32 ) (SW6) Dragonmage 400 33 ) (Pre-5YL) Ferro Lad 396 34 ) (Reboot) Live Wire 371 35 ) (5YL) Reflex (Devlin O'Ryan) 370 36 ) (Pre-5YL) Ultra Boy 350 37 ) (Reboot) Superboy (Kon-el) 350 38 ) (Pre-5YL) Superboy 339 39 ) (Reboot) Monstress 320 40 ) (Pre-5YL) Krypto 310 41 ) (Pre-5YL) Star Boy 305 42 ) (Pre-5YL) Tyroc 300 43 ) (Reboot) Inferno (Sandy Anderson) 300 44 ) (Pre-5YL) Colossal Boy 280 45 ) (Pre-5YL) Invisible Kid II 257 46 ) (Reboot) Apparition 253 47 ) (Reboot) Thunder 252 48 ) (Pre-5YL) Dream Girl 243 49 ) (Reboot) Cosmic Boy 230 50 ) (Pre-5YL) Dawnstar 218 51 ) (Pre-5YL) Cosmic Boy 215 52 ) (Pre-5YL) Saturn Girl 210 53 ) (Pre-5YL) Timber Wolf 205 54 ) (SW6) Kid Quantum 200 55 ) (Reboot) Saturn Girl 195 56 ) (Pre-5YL) Quislet 190 57 ) (Superboy's Legion) Light Lass 171 58 ) (Legion Toon (and Comic)) Brainiac 5 170 59 ) (Reboot) Chameleon 168 60 ) (Reboot) Ultra Boy 157 61 ) (Reboot) Invisible Kid 156 62 ) (5YL) Veilmist 150 63 ) (Reboot) Ferro 145 64 ) (Reboot) Karate Kid 140 65 ) (Reboot) Star Boy 132 66 ) (Pre-5YL) White Witch 130 67 ) (Reboot) Gear 130 68 ) (Reboot) M'Onel 130 69 ) (Reboot) Umbra 130 70 ) (SW6) Catspaw 130 71 ) (Reboot) Andromeda 128 72 ) (Reboot) Dreamer 125 73 ) (Reboot) Sensor 125 74 ) (Reboot) Chuck Taine 122 75 ) (SW6) Computo 122
And our bottom 26, all going home...
Superman and Retroboot Duplicate Damsel just miss safety by 2 points each!
76 ) (Adult Legion (Adventure Era)) Superman 120 77 ) (Retroboot) Duplicate Damsel 120 78 ) (Legion Toon (and Comic)) Bouncing Boy 115 79 ) (Pre-5YL) Wildfire 110 80 ) (Pre-5YL) Blok 91 81 ) (Pre-5YL) Chameleon Boy 87 82 ) (Pre-5YL) Chemical King 54 83 ) (Pre-5YL) Element Lad 54 84 ) (Retroboot) Night Girl 50 85 ) (Pre-5YL) Lightning Lad 47 86 ) (Pre-5YL) Rond Vidar 35 87 ) (5YL) Crystal Kid 15 88 ) (5YL) Spider-Girl 12 89 ) (SW6) Andromeda 12 90 ) (5YL) Stone Boy 3 91 ) (5YL) Chlorophyll Kid 0 92 ) (5YL) Color Kid 0 93 ) (5YL) Fire Lad 0 94 ) (5YL) Tyroc 0 95 ) (5YL) White Witch 0 96 ) (Arthurian Legion) Cosmic Boy 0 97 ) (Arthurian Legion) Live Wire 0 98 ) (Arthurian Legion) Saturn Girl 0 99 ) (Bendisboot) Computo 0 100 ) (Retroboot) Chameleon Girl 0 101 ) (SW6) Alchemist 0
Lots of surprises here. I'm mainly surprised at pre-5YL Wildfire, Cham, Element Lad, Lightning Lad, White Witch and Blok all going home fairly early... quite a few zero votes too!
The following realities lose their last representatives this round:
Arthurian Legion (Cos, Garth and Imra) Bendisboot (Computo) Retroboot (Duplicate Damsel, Chameleon Girl and Night Girl!)
thanks again, all, for voting - next round will be up shortly!

Round 4 begins! We're down to 75, let's pick our Top 50! This time, list your top picks from 1-25. Points will be distributed as follows - they are intentionally skewed so that a higher ranking gives a much higher number of points! Rank - Points 1 - 520 2 - 420 3 - 330 4 - 270 5 - 230 6 - 190 7 - 170 8 - 150 9 - 130 10 - 115 11 - 100 12 - 90 13 - 80 14 - 70 15 - 60 16 - 50 17 - 40 18 - 30 19 - 25 20 - 20 21 - 15 22 - 10 23 - 7 24 - 4 25 - 1 The Top 50 vote-getters get through, meaning we will lose 25 Legionnaires. and please copy-paste the list/wording exactly as below, parentheses and spaces and all, this will make it a) easier to identify which version, b) it will make my Excel lookups work House Rules - including a rule I missed stating earlier, on how to break ties! (this has been in place in past Idols) 1) Each round will last about 72 hours (so, around this time on January 16, though I will be in the office then, so this will end a bit later!) 2) I'll vote at or near the start of every round to minimize bias on my part. 3) While I don't encourage changing of votes, I won't disallow them either. I'll only tally votes at the end of each round (to make it easier on myself!). I'll post on this thread the minute I start tallying to alert everyone; votes that come in after that will be ignored. 4) In case of errors in the results, I'll post a correction immediately. If anyone's vote was affected by the error, he or she will get a makeup vote next round - +15 points to give a Legionnaire of their choosing (only applicable once we do ranking; for rounds before, will do something else). 5) In case of a tie, I will look at cumulative points through past rounds to break the tie. Realities remaining on the list - you can use this to search (Ctrl+F) the list of Legionnaires, too! (and if you have questions on the realities, please let me know!) 5YL Dead Earth Legion Toon (and Comic) Pre-5YL Reboot Superboy's Legion SW6 Threeboot Round 4 list!Realities are listed alphabetically; then Legionnaires are listed alphabetically within reality. Some observations while I'm thinking of my votes:
1) Brainiac 5 has 4 different versions still on the list! while Ayla and Salu both have 3 each! (it was tough to count, as I can only pivot by code name... I had to scroll up and down...). we have a number of Legionnaires with 2 versions left on the list.
2) Among the Adventure-Era stalwarts with multiple versions, Element Lad has been completely eliminated from the list.
3) For Live Wire and Chameleon and Lyle Norg, only the Reboot counterparts are left on the list!
4) while for Colossal Boy, only the pre-5YL version remains.
5) We still have quite a few "unique" Legionnaires, with no/ few multiversal counterparts, on the list - Kinetix, XS, Gates, Kid Quantum II, Gear, Monstress, Theena, Infectious Lass, Polar Boy, Tellus, Thunder, Veilmist, Krypto, Quislet, Devlin, Kent Shakespeare, Sandy-Inferno, Catspaw, Computo, Dragonmage...
6) conversely, we've lost many who don't have any/many counterparts: last round we lost Blok, Chemical King, Crystal Kid, Spider-Girl, Veilmist, Chameleon Girl, Rond Vidar, and most of the original Subs (Fire Lad, Color Kid, Chlorophyll Kid, Stone Boy, Night Girl)... (not listing more from earlier rounds, as there are too many to list)
6) and the sole Wildfire left on the list... is the Dead Earth version!
7) the only non-comic book Legionnaire left is Toon Brainiac 5!
8) Krypto is the only remaining Super-Pet on the list.

Round 3 thoughts:- Lots of surprises here. I'm mainly surprised at pre-5YL Wildfire, Cham, Element Lad, Lightning Lad, White Witch and Blok all going home fairly early... quite a few zero votes too! Wildfire - Perhaps even within 'boots we have eras, with the early Bronze Age not coming out too well, posted between the Adventure era and Levitz Mk2. Something boosted by the 5YG focus on the Adventure era characters, and the bronze age characters being punted off to Legion Lost in v6/7. Dawny is the most popular, while Blok has joined Wildfire here. Going by reader sentiment, Drake certainly looked to have been popular, a more aggressive action-first character with A-lister powers. But it's just as likely in these things, that voters were squeezed by having to make other choices, especially multiples of the same character. Or they just thought he was an argumentative joik. He did provide a counterpoint to more conservative characters, joining frequent nemesis Lightning Lad in being eliminated this round. And was the guy pushing for the Academy students. Only for Polar Boy, Sensor Girl and off the street Quislet to get in, along with Nepotism Lad. By the time I started reading, Garth had retired, and back issues showed him resigning as leader. So, not an awful lot for me to pin some popularity on for me. Even in the Adventure issues, his better arcs were him not as himself (Starfinger) or dead, with people trying to bring him back. Jan had awesome powers that had to be constantly downplayed, not least by giving him a more passive personality. Regular deputy leader, but not one I was ever routing for. Blok got introduced among a number of writers. It took a while for him to develop a personality and place in the team, and I thought his relationship with Timberwolf and Mysa would have kept him around a bit longer. Pre-5YG Mysa is still around. But Mysa’s arc in 5YG was just one of many with a clear, if controversial, narrative start to it, but which didn’t pay off as it should have done. A bit surprised at Cham going out. A mainstay across the boots, head of the espionage squad, stories of lost loves and issues with him finding out about his father. The latter not one of my favs, and his reboot version is still there. A version where they had the chance to get a little deeper into the character. Already out 5YG Cham started strongly, but ended up trading presidential duties for a traumatised planet over a squash game. So, not many points there. Duplicate Damsel Definitely caught between versions for me. I’d have given more had I not felt I had to give more to another version. Superman would have got more points, had we not all become suspicious of all that pipe smoking in the Adult Legion’s future. Suspicions that the Legion’s biggest foe turned out to be Big Tobacco

I definitely think that some of these early eliminations, would have done better at a Survivor-type game, where people vote off whom they DON'T like. some of these certainly are well-liked; just that, are they MORE well-liked than others? certainly, being in someone's (or multiple ones') top 5s gives a great boost to safety. but being in a lot of Rank 21-30s... was not as helpful thanks folks, keep the discussion coming - that's one of my fave parts of these games! re Jan... well, Reboot Jan for me was a bit soured by him becoming the Progenitor. Threeboot Jan... I didn't like the big reduction in his powers. and Pre-5YL Jan... was a bit too snarky and judgmental for me, at times. I will always remember him a) ending a call with Nura right after she - nicely - said she would enjoy leading with him as Deputy; b) him snarking at both Brin and Imra after that whole asteroid debacle (I always felt that Brin and Imra were being unfairly maligned, heavens, all we saw was them hugging each other in the face of a very difficult and potentially deadly situation); and c) his wink-wink-nudge-nudge moment on that Sun-Eater factory world, when Jo messed up and Cham didn't. whispering to Cham "at least SOME of us remember that it's not what powers you have, but how you use them". I always felt like, well, Jan sure is being catty! my fave "mainstream" Jan is probably the SW6 one, actually. he was a very nice guy! (I have similar negative thoughts about some still on the list, but I'd rather save those comments for later!) I wonder if Superman would have done better, had Superboy not also been on the list. Duplicate Damsel - while I did like the power upgrade, the Reboot and Pre-5YL (esp. Adventure Era) versions tug a my heartstrings more. what with the Reboot's trauma growing up, and the pre-5YL's trauma losing one-third of her (belatedly explored), or that Shooter story where she cried her heart out re Superboy being oblivious to her crush.

Pre-5YG Jan. Good points. When he did lose some of his quietness, he came across as a snark. While not endearing, I quite like the complexity it gives the character. The world is full of people who are quiet happy to be seen as a bit more spiritual, or quietly confident, but are actually far less than they appear. Pretty much all of Jan's 5YG spirituallity was really all about him. And then there's the Progenitor. It's hard to imagine how such an incident would have affected anyone. But at the core of Jan, there were always those little seeds... Superman might have got more points, but he's either Adult Legion or used by DC because they were opposed to the legal case on the character. Mind you, Superman did tell Supergirl about the Legion, when the Legion's children came to recruit her...oh wait...

yeah, and my main qualm about Jan as a snark is, in these cases he didn't seem quite justified. I would like him more if his snark were directed at the "right" situations, if that makes sense. In these cases, he just seemed overly petty. and with the Jo example, as the leader, I would have preferred a direct telling-off. of course, this did serve to give Jan a different characterization - as you rightly say, it made him complex. it was certainly an interesting personality trait. (and indeed, just not one that endeared him to me )

Yeah Jan has had a lot of focus over multiple eras and is a really interesting character - but somehow is just not as appealing to me as others. That Dead Earth Wildfire really sticks out. I confess. I'm the culprit. DE Wildfire may only have appeared in a single issue but wow, what he did there, centuries after centuries maintaining the dream while everyone he knew was long gone, and in the end succeeding not only in creating a new Legion but bringing the galaxy back together. That's why he gets such a strong vote from me. Superman - this one hurt. As most of you know I am a Superman fan, but this is a Legion list and in that context there are just quite a few more interesting and appealing Legionnaires. I think perhaps the unique legionnaires (those that only appear in one version) have an advantage in that they stand out because of their difference, and nobody wants to lose that uniqueness. 5) In case of a tie, I will look at cumulative points through past rounds to break the tie. I presume this means that - apart from a tie - points are not cumulative from round to round, but only specific to that round (otherwise the leaders would quickly zoom to the stratosphere with the point skew!)
