If "Games" ever gets published, would you read it? Me, probably not.

I doubt I would. I wasn't a huge fan of the Danny/Troia era.
GAMES should have been an 80-page giant at most. That would have been much more feasible.

Yeah, same here pretty much. My specific problem is that I can't stand the way Donna looked during that era, no matter how good the actual art was/is.

I actually LOVED George's Troia costume, personally. I feel it was a shame it didn't stick.

Ick. I'd stick Donna's 'Troia" look in my worst costumes thread. I truly hated it and felt the look was detrimental to her. Think 'Felicty' post-haircut.
But I will clarify my thoughts on the actual thread question... READ it? Perhaps I would.
PAY for it? 120 pages in hardcover OR softcover is gonna probably be more than I'd be willing to pay...

*sigh* My CBS guy says "Games" has been cancelled by DC without explanation. Easy money is on Perez not being done in time. You'da thunk DC wouldn't solicit it until it was in the can, eh? Dunno if it will be re-solicited at some point or if it's officially dead...again. (I was seriously considering buying it! )

Surely it can't be cancelled again?!? They just had a major promotion/interview blitz announcing it didn't they? And wouldn't Bleeding Cool or someone be all over it if it were really gone. When was it originally (not 'originally' originally Who can remember that far back?) supposed to come out? Maybe it's just been pushed back a bit.

I'm just repeating what my CBS guy said Diamond communicated to retailers. Maybe it's a temporary cancelling (a.k.a. resoliciting to come). He said the extent of the message was that orders were cancelled. Nothing else.

From The George Perez Fan Page on Facebook...
"As many of you have already learned, The TEEN TTANS: GAMES graphic novel has been taken off the November release schedule and will be re-solicited. The fault is entirely mine. I'm afraid that a confluence of events, including my worsening e...yesight which prompted the ongoing surgical procedures that I've already covered here and the bad timing of committing to LEGACIES before I knew that GAMES' deadlines had been compromised. With LEGACIES being an ongoing series, as opposed to GAMES being a one-shot, it was determined that the monthly series had to be prioritized since my involvement with that series had already been publicized. Due to some attendant light sensitivity issues, my ability to stare at a white sheet lit by studio lamps was definitely getting a bit difficult, which is one of the reasons I switched to inking Jerry Ordway for Issue 6. Oddly enough, looking at pages already grayed by pencils was easier on my orbs than starting with a clean white page. In all likelihood, I will still have several surgeries to get through and, according to my doctor, the prognosis is good. I will be returning to GAMES after I finish LEGACIES and will progress as best as I can in between surgical procedures. After I finish that long, long, long delayed book, I will request to be used primarily as an inker for the following year (with the exception of some covers or pin-ups here and there) until my eyesight is normal (or at least stabilized). After that, I intend to kick some serious comic art butt! I sincerely apologize to all of you who are now disappointed, yet again with the continuous delays on this decades-old project. I particularly want to apologize to my friend and TITANS cohort Marv Wolfman who's shown the patience of a saint throughout all this, even during times when I was too overwhelmed to return his calls. I have about 25 pages left to draw and I'm hoping that, when the book is finally re-solicited (and it will be!) that it will be at least a tiny bit worth the long wait.
Thanks for your patience and understanding."

According to George's latest Facebook update he only has 13 more pages to go until he's finished this sucker.
With that info, I'm predicting a release date of this book for some time in March next year.
I was only just kinda casually interested in this book to begin with but it's long torturous history has elevated it to near mythic status. I'm definitely gonna purchase it whenever it does finally hit.
Plus, I'm sure George's pencils will be excellent.

A few years ago someone sent me a copy of this as a Christmas gift. My relationship with the Perez/Wolfman Titans isn't a good one. I developed a genuine dislike for this run because of DC's constant attempts at rehashing the lineup and stories for the sake of squeezing more money out of Titans fans to the detriment of the rest of the Titans. Cyborg and Raven are two of my least favorite Titans because by that point, the only characterization I'd seen of Cyborg in the comics was a judgmental asshole with as much consideration as a brick to the head, and Raven kept switching from good to evil so much she became a plot device instead of a character.
That said, I do enjoy Games a lot even though I'm happy Sarah Simms never got killed off in the actual continuity. I love the designs of the Gamesmaster's "Playing Pieces," especially Dungeon (the one Donna Troy goes up against). My favorite part of the novel was, and this is still a surprise to me, the Raven subplot. I liked the idea of her mother operating a ranch in Wyoming and the absence of some of the drama built around Raven's birth, and the conflict between her and her unnamed half sister was done much more successfully than Judd Winnick's mediocre writing with the "Sons of Trigon" and that whole Deadly Sins angle.

Sarky, I agree with some but not all your review, but I certainly do appreciate you giving the Titans forum a shot in the arm.
In a nutshell:
Raven = I agree with Sarky.
Cyborg = I disagree with Sarky.
Games = To be blunt, I could care less by this point, because it's done, dusted, and pretty much become a footnote as far as my perceptions of Titans fandom consensus go.
HOWEVER...Sarky's post has inspired me to strongly consider the possibility of a Wolfman/Perez-era Titans roundtable discussion thread. I've got too much on the stove right now, but there's a whole year ahead of us ATM, so we shall see.

Well I liked Cyborg in Games because that was the kind of Cyborg I'd prefer to read, the one who who worked with disabled kids and was very protective of his friends and loved ones to the point his anger could be dangerous if they were hurt. Not the Cyborg from Geoff Johns' Teen Titans who was contemptuous of Kid Devil and Ravager, or in Rise of Arsenal where he made that horrible prosthetic arm for Cyborg and joked about it, or went up to Booster Gold and acted snide as he talked about what screw ups the JLI were to the point Booster gave him a verbal beatdown.

Sarky, did you like "Games" overall? Your comments seem very peripheral.
Anyone else ever read it? I recall being very tempted to buy it when it first came out, but it seems like reviews were very lukewarm.
I'm on and enjoying the fourth NTT TPB and am again intrigued by the prospect of having this bonus Wolfman/Perez Titans collaboration to eventually cap it off.

Oh, Lardy, just wait 'til you get to the recent released FIFTH volume of NTT. You are in for *such* a *treat*!!
(I'd post a link to my NTT 28-31 thread in this forum, but that would spoil key moments, so do please avoid that thread until after you get to NTT volume 5.)
AND, as it happens, said NTT trade is winging has been its way towards my local library. It may arrive as early as Monday.

I'm already anticipating discussion of whether or not the Terra/Brotherhood/Raven arc in vol. 5 is even better than TJC, or vice-versa.

Oh yeah, I did like Games. I'm sorry if I sounded too contradictory.

It's interesting to see that Terra had a fairly long association with the team before that story. I'm interested to see it play out. Oh yeah, I did like Games. I'm sorry if I sounded too contradictory. It's okay--it's kinda your thing!
Still "Lardy" to my friends!

I read it. It was decent, not Wolfman's or Perez's best work IMO. The story is decently engaging and has some nice twists. Each of the Titans gets their solo battles. There was a part with Jericho I didn't like, implying that he had several simultaneous girlfriends. I get them trying to buck stereotypes and make the sensitive artist guy a ladies' man too, but they went too far. At one point the Titans go around warning and collecting those most dear to them to keep them safe. Jericho has Nightwing leave messages for not one, not two, but at least SEVEN girls. And at the beginning of the story a girl he was with seems to refer to Jericho as a boyfriend. So that's not just him being charming, which is fine. He seems to be actively leading these girls on and it's not clear if they know of each others' existence. There was also a death of a fairly good supporting character, she went out a hero so it was a "good" death. And it's clearly non-canon so that takes out the sting a bit.

I got it a little while after it came out. I've only read it the once, I think. but that was more to do with time issues, and then I tripped across a site that had something to do with a Legion group...
I'll dig it out for a reread, but from my memory cell...
I thought that the story was a little bit of a throw back, to the worlds of gimmicky, one shot, villains. I think I'd read a number of better one shot gimmicky villains too.
With it's never ending schedule, you can see that it had an impact on the regular title, in that a character vanished from that book.
Had it been released at the time, then both plot and characterisation would have been a fairly seamless fit. It was about standard writing quality from the Titans after those first great years.
Before Armageddon 2001, this would have been another shot at Wolfman trying to make Danny Chase come out looking a bit better.
I don't remember too many character moments. If memory serves, this would have set been before Titans hunt. So Cyborg would still have been the original version. Raven would have gone into her White costume, on her way to becoming a lot less interesting.
On Ibby's Jericho spoilered text, I thought I'd seen hints of that (in terms of numbers) in the regular book. But perhaps I'm just thinking of Games all along.
On the art, it wasn't Perez at his absolute best for all sorts of issues. But having said that, there's lots of craft in there, that a younger Perez wouldn't have had. It's still more than worth it, just for that.
"...not having to believe in a thing to be interested in it and not having to explain a thing to appreciate the wonder of it."
