Edit: I should be more careful about what I type. Today is 7/28 but the date actually says 7/26. Guess I noticed the change from single digits to 20something and didn't focus on the exact number. But I cleared my cache, logged out, closed all my open browsers and then logged in on a fresh screen. My avatar and the last visit indicator are good.

It seems that for some of us (even on another computer, otherwise I'd blame the cookie) the board can't access the avatar information. Which to me means a permissions issue like the one that was corrupting member files until PowWeb fixed it.
