Someone named "Wildcard" posted the following to Usenet. It appears to confrim some of the "padding" comments some here have made about issue 11.

Beware, the spoiler also intimates the fate of Dream Girl.

In issue 31 of Stuart Moore's email newsletter, he mentions that he is
writing two back-up stories in up-coming issues of LSH. Spoiler space

Thunderbirds are GO!
(oops, sorry, wrong series :-)

This is a direct cut-and-paste from the newsletter:

* In the very very late-breaking news department: I've written
back-feature stories for LEGION OF SUPERHEROES #12 & 13. If you don't
remember seeing that information in the solicitations, you didn't --
that's how last-minute this was. I'm a big fan of Mark Waid & Barry
Kitson's LEGION -- hell, I've always loved the Legion -- so this was
a great little assignment.

The first story features Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl, while the
second one focuses on Dream Girl. The two issues wrap up the
exciting first-year storyline, and the back-features stand alone, but
comment subtly on the main action. On sale November 23rd and December
28th, respectively.
So, unless the second back-up centers on her funeral, I guess we can assume Dream Girl lives. Fine by me. I didn;t relly think she was dead anyway, and would have been upset if she had been. The important thing, I think, is how her "death" advances Brainy's character.

Well, poop! I even tried to scan the topics first to make certain I wasn't duplicating anything.

You know, I really need to work less and come here more often...

Anyway, it doesn't reveal anything about whether Dream Girl's alive or not; it could be a flashback to when she joined, or her 'origin', or just about anything.

And that's probably how TPTB (including Mr. Wacker) would prefer that we think. But, as I said in the other topic, I would think that the wording "...while the second one focuses on Dream Girl." tells another tale.

Maybe the backup will just be four pages of her corpse. Now that would be padding...

It could be a prequel Dream Girl story. How she joined the Legion...or a solo adventure on Naltor.

I like back up stories personally. As long as I get 22 pages of the main book. smile

Or it could be *sniff* her official funeral and various reactions to it. Initially, I was annoyed that she could be dead, since her character is particularly interesting this time around (and I'm not wild about the current Great Extinction of characters) - but at this point I figure there will be something or somebody else as interesting in the book. Maybe Violet will be the one to talk back to and befuddle Brainy...

I wonder if the back-up stories have to be complete in themselves each issue, or if we could get two or three-parters. That could permit more plot complexity.

Great minds think alike Drake, I was thinking exactly the same thing.

Legion Worlds NINE - wait, there's even more ongoing amazing adventures? Yup, and you'll only find them in the Bits o' Legionnaire Business Forum.

I'm beginning to wonder now if these next two backups (written by Stuart Moore) have something to do with Waid's involvement in the weekly "52" series. It was reported elsewhere that Paul Levitz wrote the forthcoming JSA #82 to relieve one of the "52" writers (presumably Geoff Johns), so maybe Moore is doing the same for Waid. Now, wouldn't it be cool if Levitz were help out again by writing a Legion backup story? I'd campaign for that!
