Did anyone else get this? I thought it was fantastic. It even edged out Adventure for my favourite book this week. I picked it up for the Irving art (which is perfect for the story), but the writing was excellent. It was this bizarre counter-point of Moore-like creepiness, mixed with really off-the-wall fun concepts.
I'm not familiar with the character, but they did a great job getting a new reader up to speed while still diving right in to the action.
David (Xombi) is called in to help a group of ordained Catholic Super-heroes ("Nun of the Above", "Nun the Less") investigate a supernatural prison that may or may not have had a break out. This all ties into some larger conspiracy involving something in Brazil unleashing supernatural evil on the world. Just about every panel throws something crazier and crazier out there, but still manages to make the story work.
I'm haven't been this surprised by a new comic in a long time.

I know! I'm surprised how many nun puns they were able to use.

I'm actually glad they included Catholic Girl. I heard about her a while ago but there's, like, no info on her other than the basics.

Old school Xombi fan here. As soon as they announced the book, I put it on my pull list. I was not disappointed.
It was good to see Julian Parker, Catholic Girl, and Nun of the Above again.

I also really enjoyed it! Other than Xombi's Brave & Bold story with the Spectre some time back (which was quite good), I'm pretty unfamiliar with the character. This issue made him feel like an old favorite.
Great blend of weird and humor! It's not often that a comic can be this funny yet never once lose the tension.
Artwork by Frazier Irving is to die for! It's the entire reason I tried the series and it did not dissapoint. Even quiet moments, such as Xombi hanging with his buddy Chet, had such interesting layouts that my eyes were glued to the page.

I was a little confused, truth be told, about the reveal of #2. It felt a little rushed.
