I agree Sonnie. What sucked about Morrison's run was Jean's death, Magneto's death at the hands of Wolverine and the way Beast looked the whole time to me.
But he did have some great stuff! I thought the Cukoos were great, especially Esme, Morrison's coolest new character, and I like that Prof. X was a major part of the run, which few writers can seem to pull off. When Jimenez would draw issues, it seemed like the book was top notch. I thought Beak was dumb most of the run, but he came through in the end. I liked that he used the Imperial Guard, but I often felt that he was focusing too much on sex, drugs, and "post-modern" comic book writing, to steal the buzz term that comics journalists use.
For me, it was on and off the whole time. Plenty of good parts and some bad, although I think the end of his run with Jean's death was part of the bad.

I usually like Phil's art, but something about his X-Men depictions put me right off. All the characters look a bit, I dunno, soggy around the edges? Or maybe that's because of the inking...
And the deaths of both Magneto and Jean were terribly anticlimactic and horribly executed. I took a look at the issue after, but quickly put it back on the shelf while rolling my eyes.

I liked some of Morrison's run. I liked Quitely's art and Morrison introduced some interesting ideas, but I didn't think it was so revolutionary. I also thought their leather outfits seemed to only look ok in their book -- anytime they interacted with the rest of the Marvel U, they're the ones who looked odd (which is ironic considering the other heroes are in spandex).
The Magneto storyline was good except that the X-Men were on the sidelines most of the time and I didn't give a hoot about those whiny students in the "special class". I also thought it was ridiculous that Wolverine delivered the killing blow. I remember when Wolverine was just a guy on the team -- he didn't have to have the spotlight every friggin storyline.
p.s. RIP Jean Grey -- good riddance. (though they'll likely bring her back again won't they?)

But hopefully not for some time! The fate of the X-universe depends on it! Seriously, when Jean is dead, things are good for the X-Men! Whenever she comes back, things get weak...
Like Drake, I wish they could find a happy medium with Wolverine. Don't make him the central figure in every storyline, but don't make him dissapear!
I think the franchise can be saved, and I hope that the new teams start that trend. At least they'll get the costumes back, but I haven't heard enough about the upcoming runs to make any judgements yet. I am optimistic though. It looks like Kitty, Logan, Cyke, and most of the X-Men will be in a title, and that Jean will stay dead, Prof. X will have his own storyline in Excaliber and they'll be in costumes again. But we'll have to wait and see.
In the meantime, is Morrison's current storyline just draaaaaaaaaaaaaaagging, or is it me?

The last issue seemed too convoluted for its own sake. Although maybe it only seemed that way to me because I didn't find it interesting. Either way, I'm a little surprised this is how he wanted to end his run -- with a fairly standard "band of rebel X-Men in dystopian future against incredible odds." This story lacks the originality or "newness" of approach that characterized his run.

I agree Mr Drake - I've enjoyed the majority of the run, although found the sadism of the Cassandra Nova arc a bit difficult to take, so it's a shame for him to go out with a badly drawn andd virtually totally uninteresting arc.

I'm glad the costumes are coming back.... The major problem I have with the X-books lately is all the villians just up and joining the team, Emma, Sage, Juggernaut it just stinks!!!!!
