Wasn't earth 4 the Charlton comic heroes?

Looks like (left to right):

The Question, Nightshade, Blue Beetle (in air), Captain Atom, The Peacemaker (in window) and Judomaster.

Hmmmmmm, issue 52 was very much for the long time fans. It brought back the multiverse, giving everyone their stories back.

As a Post-Crisis kid, this seemed sort of anti-climatic for me. The Booster story was not a big draw for me, and seeing the revelation didn't hold any excitement. My only real treat was the Wildstorm U.

The Sue & Ralph appearance makes me think they've got more stories coming- ghost busters of a different kind.

Guess we know what the big Countdown is about now.

Just spouting off.

I thought the issue was great and that the artwork was pretty streamless from one to another.

I for one would buy anything that Justanio did. His JSA2 and redesign of the Crime Syndicate were great.

Thanks LL but does it look like Ted, or does it look like Dan Garrett? I don't have the issue, just thumbed through it at the store, but again, If Jade was dead and is now shown alive, then Ted could still be alive, too.

Oh My God, We could even get Helena Wayne back!

All you need is Love (and a whole big bucket of Money).

It looks like we've definitely got Helena Wayne on Earth-2.

The Blue Beetle was the 60s Charlton version of Dan Garrett, I believe.

Actually Ted started in Charlton (in 1966) so that could very well be him.

Who was the guy in the center of earth 4, was that the previous Beetle, cause that means Ted might still be alive , too.
Note also that Robin and Huntress are back, their deaths in the original Crisis seemingly undone. What the black costume means for the Flash though, who can say?

Ted could be the Beetle of Earth-4 still. Observe that Vic Sage is apparently still the Questoin. Heck, on Earth-4, the Question might even still by a Randian objectivenist, instead of the liberal zen-master he turned into on New Earth.

Yeah, but I'm pretty certain that Dan Garrett was the only one who wore that outfit.

Yeah, that's the Dan Garret Beetle in the Earth 4 shot.

Newsarama was doing exit interviews this week, along with the usual 52 wrap up. Every time Newsaama tried to clarify an Earth, the writeres said no. There is no hard line description or correlation to the old Earths of the multiverse.

I like that idea. The multiverse can be out there, and used in story potential (another Crime Syndicate match up?) But I don't want to have to keep track of them or the changes made to them.

This is a new Earth-2. Note that Robin and GL's costumes are also different.

The original Earth-2 was still lost/merged/whatever in COIE.

I'd call 52 a big success.

Agreed.

Great ending to a great series.

The 'Megaverse', blurry lines and all, is awesome and exactly what DC needs.

Great Booster/Rip stuff. Mr. Mind was pretty awesome to me.

Love Adam, Buddy and Starfire's scenes.

Did a huge *sniff* at the Ralph/Sue scene and almost teared up.

Renee shining the light on Montoya a la week 1, (and really doing it to us the fans) with a 'Are you Ready?' was perfect. You know? I *am* ready for the New Earth DC now. For the first time too, I think.

We've got the traditional universes, without any hard and fast rules to sort out, and we've got a New Earth that can move forward without restrictive continuity and nostalgia.

That's Dan Garrett by the way, as all true Ditko fans would know Ted never wore that costume laugh

My biggest nit to pick: Wasn't this whole thing just a subtle-- or not so?--- "Crap on the Marvel Family"? The Wizard-dead. Black Adam- redeemed, only to have everything ripped from him. Freddy and Mary- depowered. Mr. Mind- Yuck. eek

Like I told Beagz on the phone, the only thing they had left to do was have Mr. Tawky Tawny eat Uncle Marvel... They probably would've if theyhadn't done basically that to Osiris. tongue

Thank G-d for the Earth-5 panel Gary scanned... maybe that's the setting for Jeff Smith's mini?

Pov, well now we can have different versions of the Shazam stuff. I personally hate the Marvel family. I think talking tigers, Jr, Mary's, etc to be a reason Captain Marvel isn't that popular these days. Wouldn't mind a more streamlined version. I am enjoying the Winick mini(somewhat). smile

Next year is the year of the Marvels so who knows what will happen with them.

I love the ending. Nice to see 52 all new worlds. Love to see how they will address that.

Lets just say given the themes of the last five years worth of comics, I personally don't want to read about what Meltzer, Bendis, Millar, Quesada, Winnick, etc. would do with Uncle Marvel. *shudder*

Personally I think it's pretty depressing that comics these days have come to be primarily puerile fantasies about uber violence and half-naked chicks with unrealistically huge breasts.

Meanwhile, in the non-comics world, series of books about magically powered kid heroes and talking animals regularly top the best seller list, and are phenomenally popular with both kids and adults.

Maybe they should stop trying to market Captain Marvel to the comics crowd, and write a series of novels about him to sell to the Harry Potter fanbase instead?

True, when I was at FCBD the guy was handing out Owly to some young parents. (very cute, recoommended as gifts if you need stuff for kids of a certain age)

He said, "Yeah start them on these, and they'll graduate on to Archies, Mouse Guard and Bone. By the time they're old enough for Superheroes they'll find that Naruto is much cooler."

Ouch, so if you don't like the talking animals you want "depressing that comics these days have come to be primarily puerile fantasies about uber violence and half-naked chicks with unrealistically huge breasts."

Krypto doesn't appear in Superman that much either...I don't see women with large breasts in that comic.

All I'm saying is that there's clearly a huge fanbase for the sort of thing that Captain Marvel traditionally is. However, most of that fanbase would never pick up a comic, because they perceive super-hero comics (and comic book readers for that matter) in a certain way that is unappealing to them. And that stereotype is kind of born out if you look at what does in fact sell, namely massive event comics with people's heads getting punched off and Michael Turner drawn covers highlighting Power Girl's boobs.

Given the market of typical comic book readers, it's no wonder that Captain Marvel doesn't sell. Given the market of typical readers, it's actually extremely surprising that they can't figure out how to sell Captain Marvel.

Now as I have read the last issue (and the whole series) of 52 my question is...

HUH? What was happening there in the end? Who is Mister Mind, and how was he beaten? I just did not get it. Probably because I don't know who Rip Hunter is and what he can do, but hey - was this not another example of typical "DC big event storywriting"?

There is a crisis, it gets bigger and bigger and at the end whole planets, universes, timestreams and continuities come unraveled, huge masses of energy are released, some artifact has to be found which can save everything and all of it is just a gigantic excuse to chance the status quo.

It was a good idea (and best executed) the first time back with "Crisis on Infinite Earths", it was a nuisance when Zero Hour hit and took away Legion Lore, and it was the same again (only the other way round, reestablishing the Multiverse Crisis took away) with Infinite Crisis and the 52 series.

Not to forget "Final Night", "Armageddon" and whatever came in between.

I'm a little disappointed. Maybe it's my fault that I keep buying the DC event stuff - I just love the characters - but in my memory, the last big DC event story focussing not only on giant explosions in the time-space continuum was LEGENDS back in...1987??? Can it be?

I like the fact that the Multiverse is back, though. Even though the new parallel Earths won't be the same like back in the 80s, they will be very similar and all the creators are saying now in Interviews is just to keep people wondering how it will go on now that there is such a giant playfield to screw around with smile

So in the end, I like the outcome, but I thought the execution was rather cheesy, and that's not a first for DC. Hard to say that I prefer the way Marvel handles these things, focussing more on the characters and a solid plot.
