Did anyone ever read this maxi-series from Warren Ellis? I've just added it to my "must track down" list after watching the passed by pilot shot for the WB.

I don't know if they think Charmed and Smallville are the only shows worth renewing or what but they sure missed the boat passing up GF. I highly recommend finding a copy of the pilot and watching it. It would have been the second best new show of the year for me, right behind Lost and ahead of Desperate Housewives.

You'd have to use a bitTorrent program to grab it or find someone who already has it to share with you. You may be able to find some more information about it at the producer's (John Rogers) blog .

Or send me a PM. wink

I got it for about a year. It was/is a great concept - and, from what I've read, it sounds like the pilot was inspirational.

Like a lot of Ellis books, however, I found each individual issue was just a bit thin on content. The series didn't really have a lot of connectedness from one issue to the next - apart from the central character, the cast changed each issue, and the missions were isolated events. By contrast, in Planetary, we have the underlying theme of popular culture icons as well as on-going story of the fight against The Four and several-issue spanning storylines. It's a lot more convoluted than GF.

Actually, Global Frequency read a lot like a weekly TV show. I wonder why the pilot wasn't accepted.

I'm also surprised they passed it up.

It would be a natural for something like the Sci-Fi Channel.

I've got the maxi-series. Some of the issues were great, modern hard-edged sci-fi. Some of them were, as FC says, thin on content, like one of third-rate action flicks on....well, the Sci-Fi Channel.

I bought and loved Global Frequency! There was even an issue set in Melbourne - even though the art could have been from any generic western city, the text revelled the action was taking place in the Crown Casino Towers complex just over the river from the centre of the city.
Haven't been able to track down a torrent yet - Scott, could you fill me in on where you found yours?
