Both Bo and Carrie performed on The Early Show and I was able to grab an MP3 of each of their performances. Bo doing an unplugged version of "Drift Away" and of course Carrie had to perform "Inside Your Heaven".

I still prefer Bo.

Oh, and I realized something only a Stephen King geek might get. I hope Carrie doesn't do a version of "Baby Can You Dig Your Man". It could mean the end of the world.

I was rather delighted to hear Bo Bice's INSIDE YOUR HEAVEN on the radio the other day!

It debuted at number one, knocking off Carrie's version. First time in history that has happened.

Yeah I think I saw on Billboard it is the first time in history the same song has held the # 1 & # 2 slots the same week!

They're saying Carrie's version has outsold Bo's but of course it was released weeks earlier. This should be interesting to watch.

Haven't heard Carrie on the radio at all here.

I just watched part of Latoya London's video. Sorry, but I got bored and quit. She looks cute, though.

I just watched Kelly Clarkson's video for "Because of You" and found it SO sad. But at least there was a happy ending. Kelly looks great, though it's hard to get used to her totally blonde. BoY is a very sad song, but it's beautiful and she performs it so well. It's all over the radio now and I think it'll soon take over VH1 and MTV.

Looking forward to the new season of AI! Any other AI tidbits?

I burned some mp3's of John Stevens' RED album for my mother. If you can believe it, he sounds really good.

Camile Velasco's debut single is HANGIN'ON (samples heavily from "You Keep Me Hangin' On"). On first listen, it didn't really stand out, but I'll give it another couple of listens.

Of course, Carrie's candy bar commercials were all over TV this summer.

Anyne have final figures on the Bo VS. Carrie INSIDE YOUR HEAVEN sales?

Y'know, I'd always intended to buy Bo's single, but I never did. Where *does* one go to find stats on songs, anyway? I've never been successful trying to find that stuff.

Oh yeah, Carrie's quite cute in the Hershey's stuff. I just saw her picture in the candy aisle at the gas station store.

I'm not surprised that John S sounded good. I always liked him, but he did pretty poorly in competition.

I heard Camile's song, but lost interest. I like her voice, but I was too into Latoya and Fantasia to pay any attention to the others.

That's because AI tries to force singers to be what they're not. I think it would be a much better show it they let each singer choose the songs each week that best showcase his or her voice and particular style. The public does not buy a singer because he or she can do everything from Shania Twain toTiny Tim - they buy the record becauase the singer is distinctive and knows what he or she does well. I wish AI would realize this. Quite frankly I've hated the winners every year except Fantasia, and I think AI is ruining even her.

I agree with your statement about styles, Semi. However, I've liked every winner until this last season. Well, I don't *dislike* Carrie, I just preferred Bo so much more.

Funny you mentioned Fantasia. I was just watching parts of the Soul Train Lady of Soul awards show, and Fantasia was nominated for a few awards alongside Ciara and Amerie and others I don't recall. I felt like Fantasia was the most distinctive of the people nominated. The others all seem sort of like Beyonce Wannabes to me. That may be a huge generalization, but on the surface, it's my call.

At the AI yahoogroup I still check out, someone posted a link to a video performance of someone in the Philippines named Frenchie (not the Frenchie from AI2). She sang Tamyra Gray's song, "Raindrops Will Fall." It was awesome. The girl looks like a young Philippino Aretha Franklin. She sounded great, too. (Sorry if I spelled things weird.)

Bo and Carrie are all over the place! I just watched Bo sing on the Tonight Show. His song was kinda catchy, but it didn't amaze me or anything. CMT has Carrie's video playing all the time. Mind you, I rarely stop on CMT, no offense to anyone. Bo also just won an award on VH1's Big in 2005 show.

The big news is that Simon is not leaving AI, and that they've agreed on doing 5 more seasons! Can't wait...

Oh, I thought we *liked* the title!

I'm very excited about the new season beginning, but I have a couple things that have me a bit ...apprehensive. First of all, I know myself, and I have this *need* to see every episode, yet I work in the evenings, so I do miss them sometimes. I currently don't have a dvr, or TiVo or any way to record missed episodes. *sigh*

Also, confession time...even though some of the bad auditions are pretty funny, overall, I find the early episodes kinda tedious. I'd rather start watching at the top 32 and go from there. But, as I said, I'll still watch whatever I can.

I've ended up really liking at least two or three contestants every year for the last five years, so I can't imagine that not happening again....

Nah, just the history within the thread itself. We don't wanna lose that until we have no choice (at the 2500th post, iirc).

Can't wait to read yours and everyone's comments, Dean! This is gonna be fun!

I think I'm going to have our cable company install the dvr service. If it's not too expensive.

I just re-read all 50 pages of this thread! We are really good reviewers! So many LOL moments, too! Going through this thread reminded me of how fun it is to talk about the characters even way back in the audition rounds, so I'm feeling better about that!

(BTW Lash, I don't know how to edit the title of threads. Help?)

I re-read the whole thread last season, it was great fun!

Dean, you click on the the little black "edit post" icon thingie (the one right next to the one you use to send a PM) on the very first, original post you made to the thread on page 1, and then instead of editing the post itself, you change the title.

Thanks Lash, I'd never done that before. I thought of a few clever titles for the thread, but decided to go with something that wouldn't confuse anyone...

Well, last night was interesting.

If only 34 people made the cut from Chicago, that means only 28 non-twins/siblings made the cut. And we can discount jumping barefoot crazy boy (what was THAT about, Randy & Paula?) so only 27 "solo" acts made the cut. That's pretty poor.

There were some interesting folks Hollywood-bound, but no one who really blew my socks off.

I think my favorite moment was when the jealous girl was all going off on that one girl who made the cut, and her response to J-girl was "I've got my little yellow paper, where's yours?"

Hoping Denver offers more meat and less gravy.

I thought both sets of twins were really good! The large girl was really good, too. Simon certainly was "crusty" at these auditions and his comment about the big girl (one name wonder, starts with M) was just mean and juvenile. Yes, I wonder what was up with Randy and Paula putting "Crazy Dave" through. Maybe they want to make an example of him, to show the others how to relax and cut loose? I dunno.

I missed about 20 minutes right in the middle of the show, so I guess I missed Jealous Girl.

Not sure if this isn't all just a misunderstanding, but at face value, I'd call it "biting the hand..."

I just don't know. On the one hand, BREAKAWAY, which features Kelly-written songs (and massive hits) has sold close to 5 million, FAR outstripping her American Idol-heavily-produced THANKFUL, which has sold 2+ million. So she wins the arguement that a product featuring her own material has far outdone a product featuring others' material.

But it's still always going to go back to what turned her from one of a million hopeful wannabees to a huge star.

Feh! I'm staying out of it!

For those curious about sales, though (I've been doing research), Fantasia's CD has almost met combined sales of both of Reuben's CDs, while Carrie's CD (only on sale a couple of months now) has nearly met Fantasia's sales.

As far as runners-up goes, Clay's sales have outstripped all winners except for Kelly, well over 2 million sales. Bo's debut (released around Christmas) was quickly hurtling toward gold status (500,000 sales). Diana DeGarmo's sales have been disappointing compared to these two.

Highest non-top 2 seller has been Josh Gracin, nearing gold status with his debut (out for some time now, and far outselling Diana). The third-place finalist (name escapes me at the moment) after Clay & Reuben (had a radio hit with "Eighth World Wonder") hasn't done badly.

Albums by Latoya London, John Stevens and Jasmine Trias have been slow to sell.

I'll see if I can locate that info and link to it.

Not really overly impressed with any of the contestants yet but I'll give them some time. I really wish they'd get to the meat of it though. This showcase of picking who goes on to Hollywood is wearing thin.

And it looks like we have our first real scandal of the new season already. Idol Twins Charged With Identity Theft . One of them has been in jail since January 10. Guess he didn't make it to Hollywood afterall.

Any numbers on William Hung's albums? I'd be curious to see how they compare.

Last night was certainly interesting for the characters - the dialogue between the "inventer" and the guy dressed like a big nutter butter made me wish they had their own reality show ...

and I love how that "guy who looks like a girl" immediately blamed them for being prejudiced, completely deluded about his singing ability (among other things).

I couldn't find any figures on his Christmas album or his recently released third album but the sales figures I found for Hung's first album totaled 145,623.
