11? Wow, that's late... comes on at 9 here, which I could do even if I was working.
Meanwhile, I'm totes digging the implication in Dev's spoler! I think I'll pay a visit to... **GASP!** the Image boards.

Really didn't like the second episode. Too much filler and deviation from the books. The new characters were mostly cliches and the dialogue was weak (showing that the strength of the first episode really did come from the source material).
I didn't tell my wife that most of the episode wasn't based on the books until after I got her reaction, which was it wasn't nearly as good as the first one.
Hopefully it gets back on track next week.

Rogue, upon a subsequent viewing of Episode 2, I lean more toward your point of view, but I am still enjoying it.
Aside from Rick and Glenn's walk in gore (which for me was a real nail-biter), NONE of this episode was from the comic and I do agree that it hurt the episode.
Yet I am STILL looking forward to episode 3!
EPISODE 3 SPOLIERFEST in 6 hours 15 minutes and counting...

Liked episode 3 a lot. Not quite what happened in the comic, but it keeps some of the same themes from them going. This whole Merle thing is a bit tedious though, and fromt he looks of the preview...we have another group in Atlanta.
Active LMB character is still Beast Boy.

ALL EPISODE 3 SPOILERS FOLLOW THIS SENTENCE... ALSO COMIC PLOTLINES FROM EARLY ISSUES TO # 30-SOMETHING MENTIONED!
YooooooooKAY. Looks like Merle has totally stolen Rick's schtick at the end, there, huh? I don't really care for that plotline. I wonder if they are possibly setting up Merle to be a certain governer down the road?
Lori sure didn't surgarcoat anything for Shane, did she? I did actually feel bad for the guy, whereas I didn't really in the comic. I actually kinda like Shane.
Carol kinda didn't look right, did she? I guess they kinda didn't need another blonde. She was just perfect though, as a crybaby pushover, which she definitely was. I don't mind how she looks different than I expected.
Signs of future Andrea-awsomosity are already showing.
Hate Ed. LOVED Shane taking his anger out on him!
I think it's pretty clear they won't be getting past the first trade this season... IF they make it that far...

I guess I really need to just let go of the comic when I watch this because they are changing it up a LOT... but it's hard to do.

They are changing things up...and overall I do not mind it. I just don't like the backwater bigot brothers. They can both have a bullet inthe head for all I care about the characters at this point.
That aside...Rick makes it back to camp, and they go back to the city for guns. Close enough broad stroke to keep the comic flow going. The asides are alright.
Looks like a big attack is happening next week at the camp, or at least being set up by the end of the next episode. I figure we'll see a few characters get bit...
Regarding Shane...definately like him better here than in the comic, although he is pretty low in both. Going after his best friends wife...pretty low, especially if Lori is telling the truth about him telling her that Rick was dead. They making that whole triangle come alive better than in the comic...imho. Wouldn't mind seeing it simmer for a while. Almost felt sorry for Ed for half a second...but was glad to see Shane have someone who deserved his wrath get his ass whooped.
Active LMB character is still Beast Boy.

Looking back, there was some untapped story potential left out there by leaving the Atlanta area so soon. It makes sense that we're seeing more survivors in that area than we did in the comic. From a TV budget standpoint, it's expensive to show, say, Atlanta, Wilshire Estates and the beginnings of the prison all within six episodes. I'm okay with these six essentially being Book One with some detours. From the moment I saw the series announced as initially being six episodes, that's what immediately popped in to mind, anyway. No, I'm not crazy about Merle, but the actor playing him is doing a good job with what he was given. And characters like him and his brother provide more inter-group friction than what we saw early on in the comic. I also loved Rick's rationale for going back into Atlanta. The guns, the debt to Morgan and Duane, Dale's tools--I really liked that! I just hope Rick finds his HAT, though, because Carl looks positively naked without it! I mean, when's the last time we saw Carl depicted without it in the book? If Rick'd managed to keep hold of it, right before going back would've been the perfect moment to give him the hat! (He's GOTTA find it!!!)

I seem to remember describing her husband/Sophia's father in the comic once or twice in the comic, though we never met him there. I don't know if she said he was abusive or if they were divorced or whatever. Anyone recall? Maybe when/if Ed kicks it, she'll grow her hair out. the way he was depicted, I wouldn't be surprised if her short hair was his decision as a control mechanism. It's hard to imagine the Carol we see here eventually hooking up with whom she eventually does. (Kirkman hinted in the TWD lettercol that that character will eventually appear.) I guess we'll see. In a way Ed and Carol and the confrontation with Shane here reminded me a lot of something very recently that happened in the comic with different characters.

Yeah, there seems to be a lot of little nods to other things from various timeframes in the comics so far. Had not heard that about the character to appear...hopefully next season.
Just watched a preview for the next episode...Jim gets a little bit of a spotlight. Which I'm glad to see. Woonder if they'll keep his story intact from the comics...

Looks-wise, Jim is indisputably the most spot-on actor cast for this show! I liked what we saw of him here, what little there was. He looked like he was just being Jim and not acting, if that makes any sense. He was a man of few words in the book, but he just felt right. I hope we get to know him a little better however things may play out here. (I am, however, going on the record in favor of characters from the books more or less following their book destinies.)

By the way, Episode 4 to air next week is the one written by Kirkman! The episode is entitled "Vatos" and is described as follows: "Rick runs into unforseen problems, which get in the way with his mission to return to Atlanta. In the meantime back at camp, Jim seems to be going off the deep end." Interesting....Jim makes the brief episode description.

Fuck! The Wikipedia article <sorry, it won't let me link> lists Tyreese amongst the Supporting Cast! If that's accurate, that's the first I've heard that he will appear in this initial run!!!

Tonight's episode was my favorite yet... first time I watched the encore. Daryl is a great "new" character. Looking forward to next week!

Yep, I was just about to post that Episode 3's ratings (5.1 million viewers) improved heavily on episode 2's and ALMOST matched episode 1's. AMC would be wise to fast-track Season 2's production. But I have a horrible, horrible feeling we won't see season 2 before September 2011.

My Girlfriend pointed out that Jacqui's hair was still relaxed, and she found it impossible that during this whole Zombie Apocalypse that her hair hasn't reverted back to it's natural state. not sure how long the whole thing started, but unless she's got a stash of relaxer, neutralizer, and conditioner somewhere in the camp she should've had a big ole' afro by now.

Rick was in the hospital a month so it hasn't been super-long since it all started.
I did notice one lady at camp (episode 1 maybe) who did have a nifty fro working.
But after seeing GOOD HAIR (very interesting movie, I liked it a lot) I can believe Jacqui might have taken her hair products!!

I'm with Lash in that I'm actually really liking Shane here and can really empathize with him. What's to come should be all the more tragic!
And I agree: FIND THE HAT!

I dont like shane, he told her rick was dead, granted he may not have thought rick could survive in a hospital that was possibly overrun...or he had other motives.

i have to agree with the LABRADORIAN, after the talk RIck and Shane had about the girl Shane was seeing(before Rick got shot) which made Shane seem like as if he didn't want to be in a steady relationship now he wants to be a faithful mate and family man with his partners with and son? i guess a Zombie Apocalypse can really change a man, but now that Rick is back is Shane willing to let go?
