Hi guys im having a shitty day

Today I got a notice of termination I shouldn't be surprised I guess because I have been on a period of suspension for the last 9 months.

Your all probably not interested but it has beeen a whole drama that has ruined my life basically so I have a couple of questions I'm hoping you kind people can help with.

I am going to sign up for the dole tomorrow but really want to purche a wrongful dismisal thing. I have union backing but im toying with the idea of getting a employment lawyer involed. Does anybody know how this works ? Do I have to generally pay up front or do they work for a payout%?

Does anybody in Oz NSW know of a good employment lawyer or one of those companies that sort out a paymenty arrangment with your creditor? What are they called?

sorry for this boring post. I have a headache.

(Yes I am a big loser)

C'mon, Pole!

we're friends here - you can always share problems with friends when you need to.

I don't know if it's any different in Oz, but generally a lawyer may require a retainer up front, and either accept payments or a portion of the winnings... although there may be some even more flexible on the up-front part... Quis can likely give you better insights here.

Best of luck, amigo, in any case. It sounds like you should pursue this.

Polar Boy,

Sorry to hear about the termination. It is always a shock even if you know it is coming.

I am not really sure how the lawyer thing works in Australia. But here the only lawyers that don't require upfront payment are personal injury lawyers. They are the ones who work on contingency basis. (Taking a share of any judgement or settlement)

As far as getting a lawyer, you might want to see if there is a bar association lawyer referral service around you. I know the lawyers that get referred (around here) usually give a discounted initial consultation. There you can tell your story and the lawyer can tell you if it sounds like you have a viable claim. One thing you need to decide is what do you want from this? Your old job back, clearing your record (having it change from being fired to resigning), or monatary damages.
