Doesn't that sound like the bitter, yet heartfelt, cry of a Legion reject?

I wonder what lines they're using to send young hopefuls back to the teeming masses from which they came?

you know the Legion application process would be interesting to see. I wonder if it is a combination of physical and mental tests. how did it work in the old days?

I think it depended on the situation. Some got chosen in battle; a lot got in by demonstrating their powers before a panel of judges; a couple came in via the Legion Academy; when they needed a lot of new members early in the Baxter era they had an open call and put the applicants through a series of tests.

I'd really like to see what the process is in this reality. It kind of sounds like Lyle got in just because Brainy wanted him. I wonder who makes the final decision. I wonder if people just show up and ask to get in or if it's invitation only. Probably the latter or dealing with try-outs would be a full time job.

The attitude in the current series, though, is: "They also serve (the Legion movement) who also stand and wait. Especially outside the Legion's headquarters."

I doubt that such rejection is going to sting quite as much as it did in the more straightforward Silver Age days. Maybe the teenagers are more realistic about knowing that the "outs" are often more capable than the "ins."

... Naaaaaah. Human(oid) nature isn't going to improve that much in even a thousand years.
