97. Midnight Tales is a little muddied, esp. when compared to Groo. But I like the gag! Okay... GROO98. FLAMING CARROT because it makes me laff. And, you know, kicking. Concrete looks like it is Very Philosophical-n-Deep -- make Ester read this, I got debutanting to do. 99. BATMAN ETERNAL. The color cut kept me looking. Booster Gold looks like an artist put down the two main images but then somehow forgot to do whatever arranging or background work was intended. (Except for the bright yellow DC Bullet - that is unusual and looks good.) 100. While I co-sign Thothy on the Invisibles logo ( I liked what they did in 17.4 too) it's gotta be OUR LOVE STORY

97. Midnight Tales - for the surprise switch.
98. Dark Horse Presents - floating heads usually annoy me, but they're small enough here and really look like they're floating. Plus I want to read Paleolove.
99. Batman Eternal - well-balanced overall, great bats, limited colours all work together, if only "Eternal" had been in that same light orange.... Booster looks stiff, unfinished.
100. Tough call, Invisibles is catchy but I'd pick up Our Love to read first, just for the classic romance comic look.
More giant candles needed on comic book covers!

Well, there you go. The nearly All-Candle Cover Thread, suitable for a Chapel. Goin' to the chapel and we're gonna light candles. A classic collection which deserves serious study on the use of candles as symbols and I hope it didn't take too many hours to assemble it.
Coluan acrobats! A black & white Archie cover (the final product?), a strangely compelling Akira.
Laffin Gas - good gag; Out of this World would be better without the inset of the guy getting into the ship; Punisher nicely moody & good emotional contrast with the Lincoln Memorial.
Star Trek - just an incredibly jarring concept; Books of Magic, very Sandman-like; Herbie okay because it's a very long time since I read a Herbie comic; Love & Romance - fashions, logo & "Chris" should have a heart instead of a circle over the i; Slacker - different style art and my kind of title.

And that's not all of them, just the six biggest and then 6 more that were somewhat interesting. The magic/supernatural/horror ones were expected, as well as a few luv covers for candlelight dinners or other romantic situations. Nice combo, eh? Donald's a decent gag and that candle placement really delivers it. There's also a few of what I think of as a "Doll Man", where ordinary-sized objects highlight how small something is, although candles can be any size so no wonder Hunted By A Cat (see: thoth probs) is more popular. The X-Title is the biggest wild card.

Dug up a few more. Thrill-chuckling!A chapter from Ted Sallis' past leads to a horrifying nightmare in the present. Sainte-Cloud, a former friend of Sallis', buys a Man-Thing candle, but is unaware of its hallucinogenic properties. THIS BUSINESS HAS MAYAVALE DRIPPING ALL OVER IT

Yes, the X-Men cover was a departure from the usual, although the snuffed-out candle is an established symbol. Maybe more for old movies, though.
Hoppy is unexpected and Candle Man is unique!
One other classic candle image I'm thinking of is the candle in the window to light the way, or a signal of safe harbour/home.

I imagine we're about to get more of the mythos of the Green Mitten (and the accessories you see here).

Well, I was going to have a quick sentence about Boston Brand's try out in Suspense Stories or how Warren Ellis read Laffin' Gas before Planetary. But it's turned into a thread about candles. And I'm just not always keen on those covers. My interest waxes and wanes.

Don't get it twisted just 'cause you can't candle the truth.

This is a horror comic if you're Ester.
