I remember a thread like this on one of the old boards....basicly we try to name all the songs that mention a superhero. I knock a few of the obvious ones out of the way

Superman's Song - Crash Test Dummies - Superman
Superman's Dead - Our Lady Peace - Superman
Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down - Superman
Even Superman Shot Himself - Powerman 5000 - Superman
Paradise City - Guns and Roses - Captain America
I am the Law - Anthrax - Judge Dredd

Although not a "hero," there's

Brainiac's Daughter -- Dukes of the Stratosphear (actually XTC under another name)

Brainiac -- Accidental Superhero (although this song doesn't seem to have much relation, really)

Five for Fighting also has a song titled "Superman"

I refer you all to the original thread on this topic for my lists.

And here is another thread I started earlier this year with song lyrics that mention Legionnaires.

hey wasn't Green Lantern also mentioned in that "Sunshine Superman" song? and if memory serves me back in the 90's a heavy metal band put out an album called Wolverine's rage or Wolverine's revenge, or something like that. the whole album was dedicated to Wolverine if you can believe that? confused

Yeah, Donovan's Sunshine Superman, "Superman and Green Lantern ain't got nothin' on me"

The Kinks did two songs mentioning superheroes, Captain America Calling which was really a tune about the mighty USA asking for help and (I want to fly like) Superman.

THE TRUTH HURTS by Seduction Of the Innocent, featured the line, "In brightest day in blackest night no evil shall escape my sight".

There's a Marcy Playground song that references Dr. Doom, I think its called Secret Squirrel. Also there's Weezer's Im the Garage, which references Kitty Pryde and Nightcrawler too.

In the Garage - Weezer

I've got a Dungeon Master's Guide
I've got a 12-sided die
I've got Kitty Pryde
And Nightcrawler too
Waiting there for me
Yes I do, I do
I've got posters on the wall
My favorite rock group KISS
I've got Ace Frehley
I've got Peter Criss
Waiting there for me
Yes I do, I do
I've got an electric guitar
I play my stupid songs
I write these stupid words
And I love every one
Waiting there for me
Yes I do, I do
In the garage
I feel safe
No one cares about my ways
In the garage
Where I belong
No one hears me sing this song
In the garage
In the garage
In the garage
I feel safe
No one cares about my ways
In the garage
Where I belong
No one hears me sing this song
In the garage
I feel safe
No one laughs about my ways
In the garage
Where I belong
No one hears me
No one hears me
No one hears me
No one hears me
No one hears me sing this song

The song Fire Escape by Fastball opens with the line:

"Well I don't want to be President,
Superman or Clark Kent,
I don't want to walk 'round in their shoes."

Another one for the Legionnaires file, Metallica has a song called Invisible Kid on their latest album. Here are the lyrics...

Invisible kid
Never see what he did
Got stuck where he did
Fallen through the grid

Invisible kid
Got a place of his own
Where he'll never be known
Inward he's grown

Invisible kid
Locked away in his brain
From the shame and the pain
World down the drain

Invisible kid
Suspicious of your touch
Don't want no crutch
But it's all too much

I hide inside
I hurt inside
I hide inside, but I'll show you...

I'm OK, just go away
Into distance let me fade
I'm OK, just go away
I'm OK, please don't stray too far

Open your heart
I'm beating right here
Open your mind
I'm being right here
Open your heart
I'm beating right here
Open your mind
I'm being right here, right now

Ooh, what a good boy you are
Out of the way you're kept to yourself
Ooh, can't you see that he's not here
He doesn't want the attention you give
Ooh, unplugging from it all
Invisible kid floats alone in his room
Ooh, what a quiet boy you are
He looks so calm floating 'round and around in himself

For those who didn't check my previous links this is the ULTIMATE Legion song. The group, Yoyodyne, seems to have disappeared but I've contacted a record store in San Francisco that was said to carry the album this song came from.

Here is The Wedding of Bouncing Boy:

Matter-Eater Lad was finally glad after shedding that 13 pounds
and Duo Damsel was getting hard to handle making the banquet table rounds
she'd been in quite a whirl since she'd been Triplicate Girl
and she needed a brand new toy
so she loaded up her dad, and everything she had
she kicked her hips at Ultra Boy and Lightning Lad
As Fire Boy's breath was breathing down her neck
she seemed so cautious and coy
at the wedding of Bouncing Boy

Chemical King was passing round a ring and Phantom Girl took a dose
she couldn't really vanish do she started speaking Spanish
as she fazed right through the wall to make a toast
she'd been lost since she got rid of the invisible kid
and she had an eye for other Legion boys
but Duo Damsel seemed to be living out her dreams
she was two babes alive flirting with Brainiac Five
the Rabbi had to laugh as she split herself in half
to dance with Chameleon Boy
at the wedding of Bouncing Boy

In came Kid Flash, complaining 'bout a rash
he'd picked up vibrating round the world
and we all had to wonder why he wasn't six feet under
after stealing Superboy's girl
but the legion rules said once that you were wed
you found another way to be employed
but they surely must have known as super powers go
bouncing round and splitting up were not that much to show
the things that they did to the Chlorophyll Kid
all must have seemed like a ploy
at the wedding of Bouncing Boy

Oh yeah, I forgot that XTC also did "That's Really Super, Supergirl."
Posted By: l.e.g.i.o.n.JOHN Re: Superhero Songs - 12/04/04 02:11 PM
and how can we forget Genesis' "Land of Confusion".
Superman where are you now,
when everythings gone wrong some how,
oh man of steel, with the power, we're losing control by the hour.

I just loved that video. Ronald Regan in a Superman suit still makes me laugh.
