Passed away this evening at the age of 92. He had a good run, a long life and was "The Most Trusted Man In America" on the network evening news until his retirement in 1981. I got my news from him as a boy and believed and (yes) trusted what he had to say.

"Uncle" Walter was one of the great men from a generation of greats, unafraid to speak truth to power also unafraid to get his hands dirty and his feet muddy in pursuit of the truth. Tonight the world is poorer for the loss of a great voice and a fearless journalist.

"That's the way it is."

That's too bad. But as you say, he seemed to have both a long and a good life.

Sorry to hear this. Seems like he was the last of the original good ones. Real shame.

Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!

Huntley-Brinkley and John Chancellor, Harry Reasoner and Cronkite, those are the ones I remember from when I was a kid.

I don't think families sit and watch the news anymore. So many other places to get the news, but when do families discuss it?
