Babylon 5 is not part of Star Trek at all. Would like to hear what it became in S3 and 4 that was so awesome. Only saw it once in a while.

Babylon 5 premiered about the same time as Deep Space Nine, and had a somewhat similar premise, though wasn't part of Star Trek. Comparisons between the two were natural.

I remember a couple of Set's remarks slightly differently.
Gates McFadden DID play in a Clancy movie, but it was the first one, 'The Hunt for Red October'.
I always forget the actor's name, the one with the brothers and the funny series and the flight commercial.
sigh

And Denise didn't just have a sceduling conflict.
She said at the time that she was too limited in her part and wanted to leave.

That's how I remember it, anyway.

DS9 is my favorite, as well.
And I loved every season.
Someday, in another reality, I'm going to have that tacheon cruiser that Sisko built and Vedic Beril is going to be with me.
nod

I agree that Trek tried to advance females more and it wasn't accepted well.
Fans were always railing against Janeway, I remember.
Deanna was successful at her classes and got that command promotion, as did Beverly.
There were other successful female Captains, too.
Sisko's girlfriend was one.

Dax had been male and female and was shown to be very strong as a woman.

Anyway, I love seeing your reactions and look forward to your sharing more of them.

Lardy, which episode are you talking about?

I found DS9 to be head and shoulders beyond any of the other franchises. But, of course, it was far different from the other franchises, which leaves a lot of fans cold to it, so YMMV.

I agree it does get better as it goes, but even the first few seasons have enough political intrigue and universe building to make it worth it.

I liked the premise of DS9 but I found the story lines to be episodic and predictable after awhile. Odo and Quark were great characters, but I got tired of watching them spar endlessly. Their rivalry never really went anywhere and reminded me that I was, after all, merely watching a TV series.

(I like to get so lost in characters that I forget they're fiction.)

I missed most of the last few seasons. Whenever I checked in, I did find the Dominion War and Maquis developments interesting.

Stuff about DS9 that clicked for me;

Jadzia Dax. Oh, so hot. She swaggered around the place, drinking, gambling, telling war stories and basically acted like the man she had been for the last fifty years. She's like sexual-confusion-on-a-stick, and her relationship with Sisko was fun to watch, since he was addressing a stunningly beautiful woman half his age (and subordinate to him) as 'Old Man,' because he remembers her as an older male superior.

The station. I'm a trekkie, don't get me wrong, but the baroque and sinister lines of both the exterior and interior of the Cardassian-built space station were *so* much cooler than the sterile and clean and brightly lit decks of the average Starfleet ship or station.

Gul Dukat. The best heroes are defined by equally thrilling villains. Gul Dukat was a 'Magnificent Bastard' before Tropers coined the term to describe Smallville's Lionel Luthor.

And, for an old time Trek fan, there's that tribble episode, which was a real treat.

For Next Gen, I can't wait until you get to see episides like The Inner Light. In the latter seasons, they started doing some really amazing stuff.

Wow, I remember posting to this thread way back when Enterprise was airing. I think I still have most of the episodes on videotape. My favorite episode was probably the Mirror Universe one with the completely re-vamped intro.

I was just thinking of Enterprise the other day -- I've gotten into Stargate: Atlantis recently, and Connor Trinneer has a substantial recurring role. It's hard to look at his Atlantis character and not think of Trip Tucker.

Yes!
Thanks.

And yes, again, I loved the crew of the Enterprise series.
I wish that they hadn't gone to so many time traveler interference in the past stuff, sometimes, but Trip and Archer I adored.

It's called "Yesterday's Enterprise" and deals with the Enterprise-C coming out of a time warp in present day and causing one HELL of a timeline change in the process! I won't spoil it for Lash, but I'm sure that if you saw the episode, you'd never forget it!

My favorite Star Trek trope ever is the Mirror Universe episodes. The classic tale was, well, classic, and the DS9 mirror universe had the delicious Intendent Kira.

There was a Next Gen novel dealing with the Next Gen era Mirror Universe (the Troi of that universe was feared by all!), but I don't recall them doing a mirror universe episode.

I watched 'These are the Voyages' last night because I read online that it was more of a TNG episode than an Enterprise episode ... and it was.

I see what they were trying to do by using Riker and Troi's holodeck experience as a way to let each character of Enterprise to get out what their characters needed to get out, and to heap on the monumentality of what the first Enterprise was, to book end the franchise.

But I think Riker and Trois charism and the few scenes on the TNG Enterprise D just way outshown the Enterprise scenes. And it came off a bit disrespectful to the Enterprise characters because youw eren't sure if it was ficticious and these weren't the characters but were a facsimile of the Enterprise crew. (I never watched Enterprise so I can't say much more about the show)

And I watched Pegasus the Star Trek TNG episode right after (which is when in time the Enterprise holodeck story is supposed to take place) and I don't see how this scene could fit into the episode as Riker's struggling to tell Picard the crime since ... in the Pegasus episode Riker just blurts it out under pressure.

I decided I hate ST:TNG but I *****AM TOTALLY QUEER FOR***** ENTERPRISE, which I have resumed Season 1 of. Last night was the episode (17 or 18?) where Trip Tucker spends half the episode running around in a tank top and space-boxer briefs!! (DREAMY SIGH) IT WAS GREAT. Also there were large-eared pirate aliens. AND TRIP IN BOXER BRIEFS. OF SPACE.

I thought somewhere on here I had started discussing ENTERPRISE on a thread but I can't find it now.

I liked Enterprise a lot. Its a shame it didn't really get going until the last season. Andorians are my favorite Star Trek race because of their great performance. I also like that they come from a arctic planet; it makes sense that they would want to go off and seek new worlds.

Like Emily, I think Enterprise really found its footing in the last season, but I found the first two seasons to be range from boring to terrible. I liked Scott Bakula as Captain Archer, but none of the other other crew members really did anything for me. The portrayal of Vulcans was pretty terrible too.

Keep up with what I've been watching lately!
