I wanted to write a song using the tune of "A Comedy Tonight" from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, but I ended up not feeling ambitious enough.

So, how many Browncoat Legionnaires are going to see Serenity tonight or this weekend? Remember, the closer we get to a $100 million first weekend, the more likely a sequel is!

I went yesterday. T'was Awesome. I did fall asleep for 5 or 10 minutes but I attribute that to beeing slightly drunk and full of candy. River is my new girl-crush...so glad she finally got to kick some arse tongue

I just saw it this afternoon and it was GREAT!! I plan on seeing it again when I get back to NYC (I'm in L.A. right now).

Not to spoil anything, but there were several WOW sequences and this story definitely has a much larger scope than the series. And of course it finally addresses the mystery that is River (and we even get to finally see the Reavers and find out what they're about). Several big character plotlines develop and I have to say with a heavy heart that more than one of the characters' stories *ends!* (yes, that means what it sounds like frown ).

From the previews I wasn't too impressed with the main bad guy, but he really came across as the badass he needed to be when seeing the film. Joss said in that SciFi special that he tends to show evil with a benevolent smile on its face and from Buffy that tends to be true -- most of the main bad guys appeared harmless on a superficial level, but interestingly enough the main bad guy here reminded me most of Fillion's preacher character in "Buffy". I still wonder why we never see any of the "blue men" (maybe Joss wanted a foe who was more physical than telepathic?)

I really hope Joss gets to play in this world some more. There's still a lot of story left to the crew of Serenity!!

God, I have to see it again. Golden.

I just got home from seeing it! I loved it!!
The mix of humour and action and drama was excellent, the SFX were ace, and the story was cool!
I don't want to spoil things, but I was shocked at times, and saddened, and laughed heaps!
If only Joss had the budget of LucasArts... Then we'd see some real science fiction. wink

Very good movie. I am going to miss (character or characters), who died.

(He/she/they) were a major draw for me in the original series, and their absence makes me less likely to be interested in a sequel.

Can't wait to see it, but I worked all weekend. Recently got aquainted with the show thru the DVD set. Barely saw it when it originally aired, even though I'm a big Joss/Buffy/Angel fan. The episodes make a lot more sense when shown in sequence! What was Fox thinking?!?!

BTW, Serenity only pulled in $10 mill according to box office estimates this weekend. Hopefully, it'll be a "buzz" movie and build viewership like "The Sixth Sense" and others did. Otherwise, no sequels or new TV show. frown

I can't believe Flightplan was #1 again. I haven't heard from anyone who liked that movie.

Am I the only person who thought from the previews that the Big Bad was the same guy from Firefly? the guy that floated off into space in the final episode? (well final on the DVD's in any case)((and the Australian DVD's at that))

As for Shepard Book...why did he get killed off when we were supposed to find out why he was such a bad-arse? or did they explain that when i was asleep?

Nope... they didn't explain things about Shepard.

As for the movie itself... I liked it. Great characters that embrace themselves... unlike Lucas and Han and whether he shot first or not.

There was only moment I saw coming, and more importantly, alot more moments that I didn't see coming... and quite a few chuckles.

My wife, who absolutely despises Sci Fi, hated it when she arrived at the theater, but walked away impressed and liking Serenity.

I finally saw it tonight and loved it. This was no generic sci-fi movie at all, not that I expected it to be knowing Joss's stuff. But I was afraid it might lose something in the translation. It didn't!

The only disappointments for me were Shepherd's lack of screen time and the movie not having much of that Old West feel to it. Surely Joss coulda squeezed in a saloon or a few horses here and there!

Characterwise, it was pretty much the Mal and River show, but all the cast did get a chance to shine.

Did anyone else think the bad guy was going to join the crew at the end? Was it just me?

I hope we do get to see more Serenity/Firefly in some form despite the disappointing box office. If nothing else, I think the DVD rentals and sales will be very strong and raise a few eyebrows like the box set did to get us to this point. We can hope can't we?

Yeah... I thought that bad guy might have joined the crew at the end too. I think the way it was left made it more interesting... and respectable too. IT kinda sets him up to be the "Boba Fett" of the Serenity universe, IMO.

I also thought there was a chance the bad guy would join at the end. He had helped them out (which I thought was a bit of a stretch) and he became disillusioned with the Alliance.

I know there wasn't room for all the cast to get juicy stories, but I wish there had been more of Inara. Maybe Joss was hoping to hold it off til a sequel, but some romace mighta been nice (Kaylee making googly-eyes at Simon and their consumation was nice, but not a big part of the movie).

I think maybe the "will they or won't they" thing is part of the appeal of Mal and Inara. I don't know if their getting together would ruin everything, but having them be all romantic at the end of the movie wouldn't have felt right. If they ever get together, it would have to be very hard-earned. They have erected very strong barriers built from their pride to make it that simple.

I agree -- not that I'd want them to be a full-blown happy couple, but just more scenes of them and even something like a kiss would be a big step without necessarily meaning a relationship. But anyway, it's all nitpicking at this point. I plan on seeing the film again tomorrow. Hopefully this film will prove profitable enough to justify a continuation of the franchise (at least a few Sci-fi tv movies??)

i've been watching my "FIREFLY" dvd's over the weekend and i'm up to episode 6 ..... i must admit i'm not totally "taken" on this series ...... yet !!??

i like the females characters more, with the 3 main lead characters my favourites !! [ ZOE, INARA and KAYLEE ]

the 'western in space' is an interesting concept and i like the idea of the 'companion' status of INARA, that's quite interesting !!

so did you guys take to this series straight away ???

Matthew.

I started watching the TV show precisely because I liked the "Western in space" concept.

And I saw the movie a few days ago. It was flippin' fantastic!! Definitely a few surprises -- well, one less than there would have been, since I accidentally read one of the spoilers on this board earlier... shocked

Given what he did to the one genuine romance the show/film had, this may not have been a major concern of his.

Nope. I'd seen the same scene both times I tried to get into it, where they're at the corral making a delivery. Couldn't get into it.

Family was persistent, offerring the DVD set to me weekly until I finally took it.

It's what Star Wars should have been in my opinion. With Serenity we actually get to know the "rebels" before assuming they're the "good guys." Serenity relies more on dialogue and interpersonal relationships and less on "alien" worlds (which I like mind you).

I found myself liking Mel more than Solo. I actually never took to Inora, but find the rest of the crew fascinating characters.

I think the actress who plays Inara is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. love

Plus, she also appears in a commercial that's still shown every so often... I forget what it's advertising, but she's asking her roommate whether she (the roommate) secretly borrowed her dress or not.

Book's origin is implied in the movie. Ask yourself how he would know so much about the Operative...
